  1. I like the idea of Class A being a venue for small corps to get a chance to compete against corps their own size. Yes, everyone is still judged against each other in all shows except Finals week, but instead of a class A corps finishing 14th with an 82.5, they can win a medal by beating corps its own size. With all the variety in Open Class and Class A, we're seeing corps beat up on each other, which is great. I love that all the corps compete against each other and are scored on the same sheets. The only time when class matters is Finals week anyway. I think we'd all love for every DCA corps to have 128 members and be in Open Class, but that's just never going to be the case.
  2. You will definitely have the time commitment, sweat, and hard work at Gold or any DCA, DCI World, or DCI Open corps. I applaud you for having a dream and I wish you all the best in achieving that goal, but don't pass up a golden (no pun intended) opportunity to march close to home if you are able. When you're taking about money, don't forget travel expenses-getting to and from camps. If you want to march Madison, you'll be flying to & from Chicago upwards of 7 times. Assuming a $200 round trip (if you're lucky), that's over $1400 in addition to tour fees. So, start saving, find sponsorships, get a job, and keep working! Good luck!
  3. Wow..that's a hike! I know of a closer drum corps to Frederick
  4. So, DCI is offering free Finals tickets to 2010 age-outs. Sounds like something DCA might consider to get some more DCI alumni in the DCA ranks. http://www.dci.org/news/view.cfm?news_id=fb258f90-9891-483a-8292-08a91bfaaeaf
  5. Shenandoah Sound is announcing a capital campaign to help the corps purchase new brass instruments and uniforms. We are planning a series of fundraisers to help raise money for the corps. A donation to Shenandoah Sound supports the marching arts in Northern Virginia. We are seeking individuals and organizations to offer their financial support to the corps. Any financial assistance is greatly appreciated. For more information and to make a donation, please click here! Thank you!
  6. They were awesome! The crowds loved out rendition of the "Cupid Shuffle!" We do a little dance break-down and we get a huge response from that. We had several people dance with us in the street as we performed! On a personal note, I got to see several former students who were watching the parades in Arbutus and Catonsville. So, they got a little taste of what I talk about in school so much!
  7. Thanks for the honest review. That mello soloist is pretty good

  9. On your right as you march down the Arbutus parade is a little pizza shop, Sorrentos. It's a favorite of the local college (UMBC) and it's a great place to get a cheap beer and some good pizza.
  10. And...we're in the news again! http://manassaspark.patch.com/articles/local-music-group-is-ready-to-compete-nationally
  11. Not just the stadium, but it's a different organization hosting the show (DCI Fauquier) this year. It's a long story, but the group that hosts DCIF used to host a Div 1 show; last year they had an Open Class show while a different group had the World Class show at GMU. (shameless plug to follow) There's another drum corps show in Northern Virginia on July 2 in Manassas. It's a DCA show hosted by my corps, Shenandoah Sound. Four corps, $7 tickets (pre-sale on crowntickets.com)
  12. One week until The Sound of the South DCA show in Manassas, VA! To prepare, Shenandoah Sound will have rehearsal tomorrow from 8-7 and Sunday from 10-6 at Manassas Park HS. You can still get your tickets to the show for $7 by pre-ordering at CrownTickets.com. Tickets will be $10 at the gate.
  13. Ditto. It's easy to get folks to sign up on a piece of paper, it's another to retain them after an 8 hour outdoor block. We have to show people that the time is worth it. I think the trick is getting a few people at time to buy into what you're doing and eventually others will follow. I'm confident corps like MCL can find that base and build from it.
  14. The News & Messenger, the local Prince William County newspaper, visited us at rehearsal this past weekend. Keith Walker wrote another fantastic article about us which is in today's paper and online. Click here to read it online! Don't forget, our home show featuring Gold, Thunder, and Windsor Regiment is July 2 in Manassas, VA! $7 tickets pre-sale...that can't be beat! Would you like to be a sponsor of the show...maybe present a trophy? Message me!
