  1. I didn't mean that, I was simply removing the adjective to make the phrase apply to all the sops- including the soloist. DA DA DA DAUAH, DA DAAAAAAAAAHH.... DA DA DA DA DAAA, DADA DA DAAAA...... (some other stuff...) DA DA-YA, DA DA...DA....DAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!! b**bs
  2. I'm afraid it's gonna be Devils before Saturday. Hope it's gonna be Phantom tonight in AL but that's really doubtful...
  3. 2006 Phantom Regiment: Resurrection Symphony (Mahler) HM's: 2004 SCV- Scheherazade Mvt. IV- "Festival at Baghdad/The Sea/The Ship is Crushed to Pieces on a Rock Surmounted by a Bronze Warrior" (Sorry but I love the title so I had to write it all out.) 1979 BD- My Heart Belongs To Me/La Suerte De Los Tontos tag 2003 Phantom Regiment- Ostinato/Canon tag I'll prolly think of more later.
  4. Good plan. I like you! Back on topic- I see why you could not like the drumming in the ballad- its a great ballad. Every time I hear it I like it more. But I also love the design of this show. It kinda goes back to "visual or music, which is more important"- well, in this case, both. The visual and music complement each other so well it's intense. So I'm gonna stick with PR on this and see where they go with it. Actually, according to Josh's Journal (www.regiment.org), they're "cranberry." Just thought I'd throw that out there.
  5. I voted for both. It's what makes our activity unique and one isn't quite as impressive without the other. But if you've read the other thread, if I had to choose, I would definetly choose music over visual.
  6. I voted for Phantom- I love the 2003-5 look as well as the early 90's look. A definite HM though is SCV- their old uniform prior to 2005 was a CLASSIC.
  7. They were fairly clean and their brass was LOUD!!! I was genuinely impressed. Its no shame to come in 3rd to BD and Phantom.
  8. I understand- that's what the :P was for! I was just clearing up the issue of my gender for future reference...
  9. Well if you dont consider it an opener, (more of an intro really), then PR 03 still wins hands down. Wild Nights, remember? :P Others include: Phantom 2002: Symphony No. 10, Mvt II Blue Devils 2004: Da Da-Ya Da Da Yaaaaaaaaayayayayayaah!!!!! b**bs (that was supposed to represent a lip trill)
  10. Guy, thanks. :P I agree. I've never been moved like that by any show. I was at the practice before the show, and when they did the runthrough, I was standing at the fence by the track. At the end, when they are playing the final chords and are all up on the FSL, they were only a few feet away (the width of the track pretty much.) I thought I was gonna start crying, too...it was beautiful. Sooo loud, and soo clean. And I don't care where they place this year- that show is my favorite hands down.
  11. Please, just ONE thread without mentioning...you know.... PLEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAASE!!!!!!! :( That comment did make me smile though. :P
  12. Music is what conveys the emotion. I have a hard time getting involved in the visual if there's not powerful, emotional music bringing it out.
  13. I"m a trumpet player, but I love it when a mello line gives me chills! Also, I hate to bore you all by sounding like a broken record, but when I was at PR's practice yesterday- lemme tell ya- that mello line is smokin'! There's like 15 of em- and they can PLAY!!!!!! b**bs
  14. LOSER!!!!!! :P Actually, I listen to Phantom's ballads CD to get to sleep. But on topic, where else can you hear an ensemble as homogenous as a brass line except maybe in a voice choir? The London Symphony for example is a great group, but how many different families of instruments do they include? And it's great for them. But there's something about that all-brass ensemble that's so....majestic. I'm listening to Phantom play Ave Maria as I type this (it's on loop ) and I would rather hear that hornline play that arrangement than any symphony orchestra in the world- that last chord could not be performed by any ensemble other than a drum corps. (OT: It's why drum corps should never, ever have woodwinds.. ) So while the visual adds depth to any show- (again look at Phantom 2006), the music is what it's there for. That's the roots of it all.
  15. It's not distracting or anything. They play softly, with soft mallets. It sorta provides a nice beat. And the horns sound so luscious and amazing- that I dont care if the drums break out on a wild battery break (OK, that WOULD be a little much :P ) but I certainly don't think it takes away.
  16. Yeah- not only was it unprofessional to start late, it completely messed with Pioneer's focus going in. They were all ready to go on, and... they kept waiting, so they finally started milling. The pit was all set up, so what were they supposed to do for 20 minutes but chill? I'm not saying it made a huge difference in placement, but still I think it was a bad idea to start late like that. My thoughts on the show: BD: I liked the show, even if I'd never seen the movies . They were pretty loud, and their trumpet players can PLAY!! (Big surprise.) The only thing is, I think it started a little slow IMO. A lot of percussion and drill without the big hit I was waiting for, until finally....DUM DUM DUM DUM DUM DUM DUM DUM DUM DUM DUM DUUUUUUUUUMMM...... Phantom: WOW. The end of the Mahler is quite possibly one of my favorite moments in drum corps. Those chords are intense, and combined with the visual, this becomes easily the best show of the season IMO. Watching it, I was speechless. This was a flat out awesome show. And a complete contrast to Devs, this show starts out so fast you wonder if you missed something. Exciting, but I wish there was a (short) build to get all excited about the fast, loud stuff. But overall a fantastic, fantastic show. All the other corps were pretty impressive. It's been interesting to watch how Southwind has improved so drastically over the last few weeks. Spirit was unbelievably loud, and their soloists were amazing, especially the euph. Crown was pretty loud too. I don't understand In.trance.it but I still like the show.
  17. Btw, bump. :) Just saw the Regiment live the first time this year- wow. There's no words for it. By the end of the Mahler, my mouth was hanging open, and I was speechless. A great feeling isn't it?
  18. Let me rephrase myself. THAT NIGHT: -> "vanguard? (I'm Ron Burgundy?)" FINALS: b**bs b**bs b**bs b**bs b**bs b**bs b**bs b**bs b**bs --> "VAAAAAANNGUUUUUAAAAAARRRD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
  19. Thats cool. I like the yell! b**bs -->"VANGUARD!!"
  20. For one thing, doesn't dci have a procedure for this? Based on corps finish at that show last year, how theyre doing this year, who's home show it is, etc? And even so- it's hard to explain why PR and BD, the obvious 2 main attractions, are going in the middle.
  21. Get "Hymns, Heroics, and Great Resolutions: Ballads by the Phantom Regiment." from regiment.org. That whole CD is my favorite ballad. Plus, Lords Prayer (2003). :)
