  1. Well now that we got the day of the week straight (Ha, Ha) --joking-- Really can anyone tell us where we can find the results for all events that took place today. Pretty Please. Thanks!!!!!
  2. Bensalem PA was last night the 2nd, today is the 3rd--Rutherford, NJ.
  3. scores are in 1 The Cavaliers 94.900 2 Boston Crusaders 88.450 3 Glassmen 86.600 4 Capital Regiment 79.550 5 Blue Stars 78.300 6 Pacific Crest 77.200 7 Southwind 76.550
  4. Sure you're not talking about South Louisiana (from Lake Charles to New Orleans on I-10 nothing but swamp land)--we don't have much swamp land in Houston that I know of. Have lived here my whole life. And acutally the humidity lately hasn't been nearly as bad as it can be. Mid 70%--usually in the mid 80% to mid 90%. Now what about the scores!!! Anyone!!!
  5. has been mentioned about 45 seconds have been rewritten--not been informed of where. It's been mentioned that cleaning has been the priority lately.
  6. My son (Cavies) has several friends that march different corps from around this area--mainly Phantom and Cavies. One of his closest friends marches Phantom--she's my oldest son's ex-girlfriend (they are always picking on each other about their corps) and his guard instructor from school, year before last, is an instructor for Phantom (she's very proud of him for making the Cavies). His friend is pretty much the one that told him he should tryout for a Corps (this was for last season). At that time Phantom wasn't auditioning male guard members (which they ended up with one in the guard last year and have several this year) --so that's when he tried out for Bluecoats. He went to the Bluecoats tryouts. He was told he was to young. Tried out when he was 15 would have been 16 during marching season. His band instructor suggested the Cavaliers after he got back from tryouts with the Coats. So he did and made it. Coasts instructors remembered him from tryouts when they saw him on tour and always were very nice and pleasant towards him. I believe he has made the Cavaliers his home--but is always in awe of the other corps and their accomplishments. I see the competitive comraderie between the corps--but I believe they pretty much have respect for each other and their activity. It's the time of year where they are still friends--but are also foes. Friends off the field and foes on. They were basically hired to do a job. They go out on the the field and do their job (putting friendships aside and becoming opponents temporarily) and then when the war is over they put it aside and become friends again. They pick and tease each other all the time--but I always hear the congrates when they are due. After the shows when all the corps are in the parking lot they visit with their friends from other corps and talk about the show, where they go next, how's tour, etc..... I also see this through competitive high school band and guard competitions. I'm always amazed at how each band and guard respects what the others do. Granted they may say that they didn't particularly care for one show or the other--but they always say something positive about some aspect of each show. Same as for Corps competition.
  7. I understand completely. I've even have had the same impressions from parents when they find out what is entailed in this activity. I even had a parent tha told me under no uncertain terms that none of her children would ever be a part of a corps--it wasn't the place for any child she thought. All this was said in front of his instructor (which had marched in several corps). The instructor stated that it took a certain kid and certain personality to march corps and that if anyone in her group of kids that could handle it it would be my son. Of course I beamed a smile at her of thanks. I really didn't know how to react to this mother (I was angry sure--but to many kids around to give her a piece of my mind). I think she thought all the corps do is party and have fun. She had not clue of what these kids go through day in, day out, week after week. I'm so thankful that I let my son march--he has more respect for others and for himself. And as you said he has direction--he now knows what his visions and goals are.
  8. I don't usually post--I'm what you all call a "lurker". I've been lurking for about two years now and probably have posted maybe once or twice very briefly. I read the forum to try to learn and understand this activity. So, please try to be patient. With this said--picking a corps is not easy. Questions do need to be asked. If you can find a corps member that has great respect for all of the corps (which with the few corps members I do know from several different corps--they pretty much do respect each other's corps) , knows the level of talent of the person asking, and knows that person's personality--they probably could suggest a corps that would fit that individual. As a parent I'm still new to this world called "Drum and Bugle Corps"-- Our 2nd year involved. I didn't even know this activity existed until his freshman year of high school. My son started marching with the Cavaliers at 16 years old (auditioned at 15). I wasn't sure that he could handle it physically and/or mentally. He was a little over weight, the maturity factor was questionable and he question his talent (did he really deserve to be here). It was hard to let him go for the summer and let someone else take care of and nurture him for three months or so. Not really knowing what that would consist of. Luckily he would call, pretty much on a regular bases. And being a mom I could tell by his voice if he was okay or not (some days were better than others). Of course the 1st month he wasn't sure about what he had chosen to do with his summer. Shortly there after he started to change--could hear it in his voice. Then I finally got to see him in San Antonio. I didn't hardly recognized him. He had lost weight (about 30 lbs) and looked so healthy. They actually had a free day the next day in San Antonio--so we got to spend time with him. We had several of his friends with us and his big brother. I had to actually go steal him away from the friends (all girls by the way) and his brother so that I could have mom and son moment. It was like talking to a different person (in a good way). He had matured tremendously. I wasn't talking to a teenager anymore, I was talking to this wonderful, insightful, respectable, responsible young man. The transformation was amazing. This transformation continued into the school year. His study habits, grades and the way he handled things all changed for the better--not including his performance level went above and beyond the call of duty. I owe this to the Cavalier Staff and volunteers. I agree that the top corps are pricey--believe me I know. But what I got in return was ten fold. Now that said ( and sorry it was so lengthy)--I have heard some of the horror stories of the other corps--since starting this activity. Will not go there and will not get into it--just hear say mostly. But if some of the things I've heard are true--I'm truly grateful my child chose The Cavaliers. They have a staff and volunteers that truly care about the kids (our kids). They have medical staff on hand at all times. They are feed four times a day. They are taught to listen and pay attention to what their bodies are telling them (more than I can say for some doctors). They make them take vitamins everyday with breakfast. My son says pre-tour is the toughest, but once that is over--tour is not to bad. During pre-tour they get half days on some Sundays. They try to let them rest whenever possible. They get three or four free days during tour, plus they get some half days here and there. I believe with my heart of hearts that he's well taken care of--because if I didn't believe this he would not have gone back a 2nd time.
  9. Thanks for the review--can't wait to see the show. My son is marching this year and said that it's going to be a really cool show and that they all love it.
