  1. Apex no longer exists. Not sure if bpex or cpex are coming out this year.
  2. Does anyone know what music Corona used in 2005 for the balance show?
  3. From what I have heard and the number of performers over the age of 21 is a lot less than what people think.
  4. The press release stated that they were a local organization for the youth of Canton sponsored by the Bluecoats. They are not the same as the summer colorguard.
  5. Back in 1994 when we went to Canada we were told to all pretend we were sleeping when crossing the border. That way the chances were smaller of us being asked to all show ID. We had several members from Japan and we all taught them to answer the question of where they came from "United States of America" The corps also had to carry copies of everyones birth certificate in case anything came up. I am sure that it is much more difficult since 9/11 and that is why corps do not go up to Canada.
  6. Hey Sue, I think the things you noticed about Sonnor continue to this day. They have a tradition of strong dance training and musicality in their choreography that is not recognized as much as I think it should be by the judging community. I am looking forward to seeing them again this winter. Jeremy
  7. Guards know prior to WGI if they do or do not have clearance. The problem is that sometimes they do not know until after the show has already been designed. Last season Blessed Sac changed the music for a large portion of the show after they found out mid season that one of the pieces was not cleared.
  8. The loss of regional circuits such as DCM had little to no impact on World Class corps. The Open class corps have been killed by the loss of the regional circuits. The loss has been in performance opportunities. As a performer in Division 3 in the early nineties we got a full tour with almost as many shows as a Division 1 corps. Since the loss of the regional circuits some Open Class corps get less than 10 shows in a summer. Imagine how hard it is to attract members to a smaller corps that works hard in rehearsal and only goes on the road for 1 - 2 weeks during the summer.
  9. I always thought that the first act of 1999 St Anns was a lot better than the second act. It is unfortunate that you only get to see act 2 on the video.
  10. Funny you should ask..I was just thinking about this the other night. Looking back at 1999 the activity has not changed as much as in previous decades. Compared to the changes between 79 - 89 and 89 -99 not much has really changed. I recently attended a show with someone I marched with who had not been to a show since 1998. She was amazed that the activity had not evolved more in her time away. Most of the shows in the 1999 IW finals would still be competitive today. I think the biggest changes have been in IO and IA classes with a much higher level of design and technique taking place. The biggest change that I have noticed is the tosses keep getting higher and a return to "tricks".
  11. How can you forget....the incredible winning show of the Emerald Marquis. After years of being the bridesmaid they finally got the gold.
  12. Moving away from the regional circuits helped the World Class corps who make the decisions. The Open Class corps really took the hit when the regional associations died. In DCM all corps got paid to perform. Under the current model Open Class corps get paid very little or sometimes nothing to perform. DCM held on for a few years without the top corps, however they were needed to attract an audience. The top corps benefited from the loss of regional circuits, but at what cost....the number of corps competing in Open Class this past year was less than half of the number in the mid 90's. The other benefit of regional circuits for Open Class corps was that they got to go on a real summer tour and not just the last few weeks of the season.
  13. I would add the Sheboygan Buccaneers to my list of favorites from 1999. Incredible technique, a flurry of equipment with non-stop changes in mood and color, and the first use of a beautiful velvet floor. The only thing that makes me said about this show is that it was the last time we saw the Bucs!
  14. Considering that Blue Stars are holding colorguard auditions in LA this year, it is a pretty safe bet that Michael Shapiro is returning as caption head.
  15. What did she do to it...run it over with a freight train? I have had my king for 8 years and spin it daily. It is still as solid as the day I bought it.
  16. I believe he was with Crown from 2004 - 2007. He was in charge of the visual program (both visual and guard).
  17. New Braddock staff just announced this morning on wgi.org.
  18. If Dave Meikle is leaving SCV will they still have a winterguard this year?
  19. The difference is that gymnastics is not based on creativity. The moves are well defined and gymnasts do not deviate from the standard set of moves.
  20. The music would make a great show. The plot of the movie...not so much
  21. I was pretty much born into colorguard. My Mom marched her age out season while pregnant with me!!
  22. What about Phantom 1996. They were not first in quarters or semis.
