  1. I think the last time McGavock attended SW prelims was 1997.
  2. If I remember it John Overton did pretty much the same show (Mimes) both years and won A and Open with it. Mt Carmel also medalled in A and Open in consecutive years. In the independent classes a few guards have medaled in A and Open in consecutive years. The Company, Nolan, Lealta and Paradigm are a few that come to mind.
  3. I forgot about Raiders (1997 IA 1990-1994 IO 1994 IW 2003 IW) I was thinking of St Anns. What a track record this organization has. 1993 IA Silver 1995 IO Silver 1996 IA Gold 1999 IA Silver 2000 IW Silver and IO Gold 2001 IW Silver and IO Gold 2002 IW Bronze
  4. Carroll HS did it, but in a strange order. 1994 and 1995 SW Bronze. 1998 SA Gold and 1999 SO Silver.
  5. Correct!! Fantasia got silver in IA 1991, gold in IO 1995 and numerous gold, silver and bronze in IW.
  6. Keep looking... Their is at least 2 IW guards and 1 SW guard that have done this. Keep in mind they do not need to be current world class units.
  7. San Jose Raiders have a audition date listed on the website. Opus 10 have registered as a WGI member for the coming year.
  8. New question. What guards have placed in the top 3 of all 3 classes A, Open and World?
  9. This would be true if any division 1 corps actually relied solely on local talent. The fact is that the majority of corps members are not from the same city or state as the corps that they are marching in.
  10. The Northmont prop crew was amazing to watch that year. They had about 100 people and they could set that thing up in less than 2 minutes and tear it down even faster.
  11. My guess would be Carroll HS 1995. The also medalled in SA in 1998 and SO in 1999 with very small guards. For independent groups I would go along with Trish and say 1990 San Marino Academy in IA.
  12. I think it was the Kingsmen in 1989.
  13. The first Open class champion was Quasar from Revere MA in 1978. The first World Class champion was the San Jose Raiders in 1993.
  14. In my opinion Fantasia 2004 is one of the best designed shows in WGI history. The execution was also very high. (2003 is a different story. What a mess!!) I would not have put Northern Lights in the top 3. A lot of cool tricks on rifle and that was about it. The whole thing with the stop, freeze, look dramatic for 30 seconds so that the girls scream was a bit overdone all three seasons of the all male NL.
  15. I have had my King sabre for over 7 years and spin it several times a week. It is still holding up with no loosening or bending of the hilt. In my opinion the King is definately worth the price.
  16. It's interesting that people always complain about shows that are all original music or shows that have songs that they do not recognize. But when a corps plays music that people recognize people complain that the music is overdone and should be retired.
  17. I actually agree with the poster of this thread. Because they were not in Atlanta they along with Mandarins should be performing at the beginning of the show. The touring division 1 corps should get some benefit.
  18. Why does everyone seem so shocked that Blue Stars are so close to Crossmen. They placed higher than the Crossmen at DCI last year.
  19. Millennia used the song Kodo by the Yoshida Brothers in 2005. The song is also being used in the commercials for the Wi video game system.
  20. If guards don't go to championships solely based on the rankings they are making a mistake. Does anybody remember Kennesaw Mountain two years ago. They were ranked dead last going into championships and they ended up in the top half of finals.
  21. I agree that a few more guards in SW would be a good thing. Although even with only 20 guards getting in finals was difficult this past year. The class was and always is very strong from top to bottom.
  22. I think it works very well. Just from looking at the guards in world finals this year 8 IW finalists (Fantasia, Northeast, Onyx, Braddock, Black Watch, Opus 10, JSU Center Stage and Sacred Heart )and 9 SW finalists (Avon, Arcadia, Flanagan, Shenendehowa, Stoneman Douglas, Trumbull, Rancho Bernardo, Centerville and Cheshire) are the results of promotions. I think in most cases guards that WGI promotes were in the wrong class to begin with and should have been promoted prior to championships.
  23. 6 feet of pole, 5 feet of silk, 30 square feet of opportunity........said to a flag who was dropping a lot.
  24. I have always found that the strap helps with the over-all balance and toss rotation of the rifle.
  25. Does anyone know the name of the piece of music used by Shenendehowa this year? The music was very moving and I would love to have a copy of my own.
