  1. That's is what a staff and alumni member told me.
  2. Oh God yes! They looked like Hostess Cupcakes! :sshh: I know Robbie Robbinson had always admired the Muchachos.....we played "Pictures of Spain" in 1980 an opener that Muchachos played. It was only a matter of time before the corps would simulate the Muchachos one more time! :sshh:
  3. Ralph Pace was the culprit. :sshh: I suppose, since it was Ralph's idea in the beginning to put the corps in capes in '78, he thought he could do another make over for the corps....NOT! It was also Ralph's idea for the drumline to wear face paint in the '78 finals......they hated it, but I thought it looked rather cool. There have been few boo-boos that Ralph has made for drum corps. Another was having 2-7 Lancers rifle line do Pom-Poms in one of their shows. I know LancerFi said she hated it. I mean you have one of the top guards in the country and you ask them to hold a Pom-Pom?
  4. Yuck! That has to be the ugliest combination! WHY did Ralph mess with something that was working???
  5. Our corps would play an excerpt from our show, but "Russian Christmas Music" became the corps song.
  6. White shoes looks awesome if your corps can march.....that was not one of Crossmen's forte. It just made the execution errors for them more apparent.
  7. One of the things I noticed about corps in the lower classes was, they all worked harder than we did. For that reason, you guys certainly gained my respect.
  8. Thanks tommytimp...although I didn't march that year, I've heard from alumni friends it was a rough season. On the way to CA the drill designer quit so they called in Ralph Pace. From what I understand he was responsible for the white shoes and shakos! ampssuck Geez, what was Ralph thinking? He should have left well enough alone!
  9. Yeah I remember wearing tube tops all the time. Sometimes they would fall down a bit while you were doing your work, so you had to be creative in the work to fix it on the go without getting yelled at. :sshh:
  10. I think we performed that Friday night after prelims in the same stadium. I know after hearing our score we were all in shock! I mean some corps that beat us never beat us all season long. Anyway.....taking a deep breath because there is more to that story. :sshh: We didn't practice at all before the Associate Championships....not a run through or nothing....we didn't feel like it! So corps directors George Bonfiglio (27th Lancers), Jerry Seawrite(SP?) (BD) and Gail Royer (SCV) talked to us and inspired us to go out and prove to the crowd and to DCI what happen was a mistake and one that should never be forgotten or repeated again. George B. told us what happen was wrong and should never have happened....that we belonged in finals....period! Their speeches were enough to light the fire back into our eyes for that Associate Championship. There was a good crowd that night.....many supporters and fans from other corps. I don't know how many corps were there.....to us we didn't belong there. As far as Pete sitting on the sideline playing the solo is new to me.....it could have happen knowing Pete. I'll have to ask some other alumni if they remember seeing him doing that.
  11. I do know SCV did in 1982. The crowd was so loud the corps had a hard time hearing each other on the field. It had been rumored all summer long (and this was before the Internet) that SCV was bringing back the Bottle Dance. Needless to say, they brought the house down......and probably lost their chance of winning because of the sound phasing. Madison Scouts 1995....who couldn't love this show? It is my all time favorite Madison Scouts show EVER! Another memorable moment for the crowd going apes was in 1994 when the 27th Lancers Alumni Corps performed for the finals. I do believe they got the loudest and longest reception for the night!
  12. Because there are a lot who dislike rifles without having the knowledge or respect when it comes to the art of spinning it. However, there are few cases (judges)where those who have never picked up a rifle and they understand the element that it brings to a performance. Think of all those who know nothing about Drum & Bugle corps.....they think it's nothing more than a marching band. Most people who know nothing about marching bands think they are there for the half-time entertainment only. It just bothers me when folks throw out their opinions without knowing enough details.
  13. OMG Brian don't get me started on that subjest again. :sshh:
  14. Right.....1979 and I'm still waiting for a ring or patch or SOMETHING! :sshh:
  15. I wonder how many people voted that have never picked up a rifle and spun before? It's easy and ridiculous to sit back and criticize something you don't understand. :sshh:
  16. Umm...one part of our show in 1980 was called "The Planet Krypton" and that was asymetrical......drumline was not on the 50.
  17. I agree that Marc wrote a very demanding show....one that was not given credit for in many cases.....but I thought he was the best thing for them. They needed to get out of the rut they were in when it came to drill.
  18. So you are a Skeptic and I am an Optimist. I will tell you this much.... alumni and fans will be more willing to give $$$ to the corps now, knowing it will benefit them only. That's not a slap in YEA's face.....just fact.
  19. If you want to go in the history of moving flag, there is some document dated 1637 called CODICE = a ancient book named "L'ARTE DI MANEGGIAR L'INSEGNA, the art of flag handle in this book with images are described movements, technique, ect. It was considered as a special sport useful to prepare to the use of the sword. As far as not using rifles for guard, right now in WGI, spinning other pieces of equipment in place of the rifle, for example the "S" or Comma rifles is not considered legal equipment and will not be apart of the T&P judges sheet. I like to see a good rifle line with correct technique as well as awesome body moves under it. I say, "If it ain't broke, DON'T FIX IT!"
  20. I remember in '80 one of the girls in the hornline came back on our bus after finals wearing a Blue Devils jacket. She traded her cape for it! Our corps director was not happy neither was BD's corps director, so the directors exchanged parts. I did get a Bridgemen hat and one of their Rainbow flags and a North Star...Star like they wore on their hats. I kept my complete uniform as well as my equipment.
  21. Thank of it as a bird with a broken wing to be taken in until it's wing was healed. Now Crossmen can fly away.....free.
  22. Wait....I see Troopers AND Glassmen on that list.....so what gives?
