  1. The generosity of the folks in Winston-Salem helped finance the trip to NC! Those folks are a class act!!!
  2. Great to see the huge crowds at these parades. We got treated by "JoAnne" at the Catonsville parade. What a great lady! So we set up an arc and played for her. In return...she brought us desserts. Ahhhhh! Love that woman! Wanted to accept her offer of beverages but sadly declined! LOL. Best moment of the day: Seeing the Sunrisers marching down the street in Catonsville. Welcome back Sun!
  3. Seeing the Troopers name in the Top 12....priceless!!! It's a great day!
  4. Now THAT was funny!!! I think the real penalty was the Fran Haring penalty for the Director failing to wear a Hawaiian shirt....but don't quote me. LOL
  5. Dear Ed, You have a very nice drum corps! Enjoy the summer. :) Dwayne
  6. So....for AFTER the show....give me some entertainment ideas for my corps....we plan to max out this weekend all they way around!!!! Dwayne
  7. This was an interesting topic to find online today! Thanks for thinking of Carolina Gold. I have heard some great things going on with DCA South. Although we are not currently a member of DCA-South, this is something that we may be looking into for the future. Carolina Gold does support the southern movement and are very proud of how much the circuit has grown and the successes it is seeing. Dwayne
  8. Update - left to fill....one bass drum (#4) and an extra snare. Thanks!!
  9. Hey! Drop me a line....ExecDirGold@hotmail.com Always good to have a new face stop by! Dwayne Carolina Gold
  10. HAHAHAHA Love this line: "Where's that sizzle sound coming from????? Oh wait, that's me" Feel free to send some bottles up to NC! ;) Dwayne
  11. Awesome news!!!! I think Alliance is set up for much success this season. Congrats and I wish you guys the best! Dwayne PS....it is our turn to yell, we love you Alliance, when you make finals!
  12. Gold has replaced Joy from Awakening to a "Joyful Gloria". It works better with the progression in the show. Another great arrangement by Dennis Argul, Jon Randall and Sean Combes.
  13. Carolina Gold is having a great spring and we are on schedule for our first public appearance at Wildwood, NJ in June! The good news for you is that we currently have a few openings. One bass drum, one snare, one mallet player and one front ensemble accessory person. If you are interesting in hearing more about it...contact Dwayne Barnes at ExecDirGold@hotmail.com or visit our website at www.carolinagold.org
  14. Sometimes these can be very hard decisions. It is great to hear your membership understands the big picture. I hope you still have a great year and plan to see the corps back at the DCA Championships in 2010! Dwayne Carolina Gold

The Bowl-A-Thon will begin at 7:00pm and end at 9:00pm. Door prizes and other surprises await you. (Pledges can be made during the event or prior at www.carolinagold.org) This is a fun and exciting way to support the corps make a connection with current and former members of the corps so please join us. This event will help defray the travel and operating costs for the corps upcoming competition in Wildwood, NJ on June 20th! *Support North Carolina’s only All-Age drum corps in our trek to the World Championships
  16. Marched 75-84 - would have been 10yrs+ if the corps didn't take a year off and then later go inactive. Back at a local show, our corps director announced that one of the 3 ageouts that year, Winnie...had marched 7 years. I felt sorry that she only got that many years in before she was too old! LOL. Warped vision of a young kid! I think many older corps have stories of many years in one corps. Our drum major Colleen Cahill marched over 10 years as well. Thanks again to the Bordens for all the "Pride And Determination" they taught us at the LI Kingsmen!
  17. Gold's camp this past weekend was supposed to be a "washout"....meaning, it was supposed to rain most of the weekend starting with Saturday afternoon. But that was not the case. Instead the corps got down to business and had a very successful camp weekend. The good news is that we have filled most of the sections. (Two thumbs up!) However, we are still in the need of: 1 soprano 1 bass drum 1 front ensemble/accessory If you are still interested in joining Carolina Gold this season, please visit our website at www.carolinagold.org Time is running out...only a few more rehearsals before we perform at Wildwood!!!!
  18. Yes, we will gladly declare Open Class if we can get 64 brass! Borrowing from an old movie: If you build it, they will come....is not going to happen in this case. But if you do have 30 or so friends...please send them to us. :)
  19. Carolina Gold is holding their next camp on May 1-3 in Greensboro, NC. In order to compete in Open Class in 2009, we need a combined total of 64 brass, 32 percussion and 32 guard! So please start filling out those online application forms.... In the meantime....Gold is looking to fill the immediate positions: 2 guard 1 soprano 1 contra 1 mallet And if you think that will make us a full Open Class corps....well....good for you! ;) The staff of Carolina Gold is very excited about this upcoming weekend. Lots of good stuff planned and some familiar faces will be rejoining the ranks as well. For more information on upcoming events such as our Bowl A Thon and our Gold book sale, please visit our website at www.carolinagold.org PS....I will get a working camera and post some pictures next week on the website!
  20. Carolina Gold is looking for 2 additional guard members to complete their 2009 Guard roster. Our corps is currently practicing in Greensboro, NC. Directions can be found on our website: www.carolinagold.org Our next rehearsal is this coming weekend, May 1-3. Members must bring their own gloves. All members will be spinning rifle, sabre and flag. If you own your own, please make sure you bring them to the camp. Overnight housing is at the practice site. For more information, please write: ExecDirGold@hotmail.com
  21. Carolina Gold had a very successful camp this past weekend. The only unsuccessful part was my ability to take a picture without the sun blaring through and ruining my great shots! Cheap camera or bad photographer...OK, probably the second. The corps marched and player the opener. The sound of the beautiful corps song "Gold" was a nice reminder of the corps determination to keep building onto their return to the field from 2008 and a sense of pride in the 09 corps. With a few missing brass folks due to Prom and work, the brass sounded very well balanced and much more mature than last season. I have to admit that I had to recount the numbers because the corps sounded much bigger. I don't believe in hype. But I do believe in being proud of what you can accomplish. After missing out much these past few months, due to running our winter guard program, I am very pleased with the dedication of our staff and membership. We are still accepting applications and we are still getting them! It must be something in the water, but Spring seems to bring out the drum corps beast in us all. The board of directors announced the first ever "Carolina Gold Bowl A Thon" planned for next month. More info is on our website on this. And the board and members are still working events at our local RBC arena where the Carolina Hurricanes are in the playoffs. These games give our members a chance to enjoy some great hockey and be able to work off their membership dues. As the economy is not drum corps friendly right now, we are also accepting donations that will go directly to a deserving member to allow them to participate. Look for Scholarships on our website - we accept check, money order, paypal...or even stop by and make a cash donation! For more information on the corps, please visit our website at www.carolinagold.org And if you have any direct questions, feel free to write: ExecDirGold@hotmail.com Looking forward to our next camp in Greensboro, NC on May 1-2-3! If you get a chance, stop by and listen to drum corps Carolina Style!
  22. Long Island Kingsmen (Junior corps) played King of Kings in the mid 70's but not sure if anyone has a recording of it.
