  1. Exactly. It's like can this person ever say anything nice about the Scouts? I'm super thrilled for the WI corps tonight, and I dare say I'm jumping up and down over the Blue Stars tonight.
  2. And you aren't? I've seen you spread your negativity over the Scouts pretty often. Good luck with that.
  3. That is AWESOME! Have they ever scored above 90 before?
  4. Not really. In fact, I pretty much defend the judges more than I disagree with them.
  5. I'm really happy for them. Wow - two corps from WI in finals. That is awesome, and if both Madison and Blue Stars continue to improve, this rivalry could be really fun in a few years.
  6. Wow! You're qualified to judge ALL captions. DCI would save a lot of money if they just scratched the whole panel and had you judge.
  7. Madison is in. They have made finals. Beat Crossmen and Colts.
  8. Of course it is, especially when corps score so close. Had we finished 3rd and either BD or SCV won, I would probably have never for a second thought we got screwed. It was a tight competition. But, just as those BD staff/members make nasty comments, this Regiment ('89/'96) member has said repeatedly "It was the best 5th place show in DCI history!" How's that any different. I'm only pointing out that if you're going to hate the whole BD organization because of that, you have to look at what's coming out of the mouths of members associated with your organization.
  9. Back on topic. This (Regiment) is my absolute favorite show in a long long time, and I hope it wins, but I don't think their visual scores are going to make up the difference enough to climb out of 3rd. I think it's between BD and Cavies for the win, although I would love it if it were between Crown and PR. They are really the only two shows from this year that I listen to repeatedly. I think, whether win, 2nd, 3rd or 4th, the Regiment members are going to come away with nothing but great memories from this season. Good luck to them tonight and tomorrow night!
  10. That's nice of you and all, but I have read countless people here saying pretty mean things about who should have really won such and such a year....and some of it is from Regiment fans and alumni. What is the difference between the comment made in the parking lot at 1996 finals and comments made on here by fans/alumni. I've read SO MANY posts from a Regiment member from 1989 and staff member from 1996 about how we shouldn't have won in 1988. It's like he can't resist chiming in every time, calling it a "5th place" show and so on and so on. Is that any different? I don't think so. I learned along time ago to let the actions of a few not represent the entire corps, and who cares who thinks who should have won any given year?
  11. That happens with every corps. Believe me, I've marched against Regiment (and Cavies) and have seen countless classless acts by members of those two corps. So much so, that I had such complete and utter disdain for those two for years and years after I marched. It didn't disappear until the early 2000's.
  12. But the magnifcance in the 5th, lies in the 4th movement - most of the world only knows and are familiar with the 1st movement. But, you are correct, they did premiere together and the 5th certainly overshadowed the 6th...but I like the 6th, and 4th, 7th, 8th and 9th for that matter, better than the 5th.
  13. Beethoven's 6th Symphony happens to be my single favorite piece of music. It is brilliant, beautiful, passionate, subtle, highly entertaining and a sheer masterwork. It may not be as appreciated as the 3rd, 5th, 7th or 9th, but I think it is tremendous, especially the first and second movements, which are amazing beautiful in their subtlety. It's subtelty that works AND entertains. Sorry, the Blue Knights program is failed subtelty IMO....boarding on sheer boredom.
  14. First off - I am gay. What I think the original poster was saying is that Cadets have a more feminine show because a bunch of gay guys are talking the whole time. The best was a comment in a thread about the boxing in Bluecoats show coming across as two queens having a pillow fight.
  15. I don't know if I agree completely. Sure, I love when a corps blows my face off (with a very loud, yet beautifully toned sound), but I also enjoy subtlety. Look, I'm not a BK fan. 2000 was probably the last time I liked a BK show. I just think they're boring musically. Visually, I often like them. There is so much great classical music out there, I'm not sure whey they choose the music they do. I loved their 1992 and 1998 shows. 1999 was great too. Since then, I don't know, it feels like they are trying to cater to the judging community rather than the fans. But, to each his own. I look at corps like Star (1993), SCV and Cadets - they have imployed subtlety so well. I think 1987 Cadets is one of the best shows ever, and it was just beautiful. The subtle ending was amazing. 1993 Star was so weird IMO - so subtle, with exposure I've never seen, but it was an AMAZING show. I often think how great BK would be if they combined their great visual program (with less body movement) with some great classical music. You can play soft and subtle music, but what they are playing just isn't my cup of tea.
  16. I told ya all (in another thread) that scores were going to drop from at least Blue/SCV down. I was write. HAHAHAHA! J/K, but seriously, I was.
  17. I don't think Crown is worried or will be affected in the slightest. They (Crown & PR) have arguable the undisputed fan favorite shows (and most awesome shows of the year I might add). Crown will hold their own. I think PR will beat Crown comfortably (all three nights), but I don't performance order is negatively going to impact Crown. I hope PR or Crown win. It would be great for a fan favorite to walk away with it.
  18. I do think there is a bias in judging, but not just against the Scouts - against everyone except maybe Cavaliers and Blue Devils. Over the last decade, those two have been the most consistent corps and deserve all the praise and championships they have won. But, how can Phantom have placed so unbelievably close to the Cavies several times this year but not beat them once? You mean to tell me the Cavies are just that wee-itty-little bit better than Phantom every single night? That's absurd. That's my problem with judging today. Corps are slotted and there is very little movement on any given night. Yes I know corps like the Blue Stars, Glassmen, and even Madison have surged over the course of the season, but I'm talking night to night shows were corps are so close to each other. We saw that once last year with Bluecoats beating both Cavies and Devils. I can't think of another time I have seen that in years. Judging is not judged on any given night. There exists a bias of expectation as to where corps should be placing and the numbers follow suit. Just watch - Phantom will be very close to BD and Cavies all three nights this week, but in 3rd place all three nights.
  19. I think the following will be true: - Glassmen 8th - SCV cleans up enough to pass by Bluecoats on quarters and stays a head. - PR/BD/Cavies finish top three and pull away from Crown. - Phantom has biggest standing-o. - Madison 13th after quarter, then possibly passing crossmen on semis! (you said possibility, which I think it is, but I think XMen will take the last spot). So, I think it will be a great week for you.
  20. I'll play. 1. Cavaliers, 97.85 2. Blue Devils, 97.65 3. Phantom Regiment, 97.00 4. Carolina Crown, 95.85 5. Cadets, 94.70 6. Santa Clara Vanguard, 93.10 7. Bluecoats, 92.45 8. Glassmen, 89.60 9. Blue Knights, 89.45 10. Blue Stars, 87.40 11. Boston Crusaders, 85.65 12. Crossmen, 83.90
  21. 3 - Blue Stars 13 - Carolina Crown 20 - Madison Scouts 20 - Phantom Regiment 17 - Santa Clara Vanguard 15 - Troopers Credit Madison, Tick Blue Stars and Phantom.
  22. I would love to see Crown or Phantom win, but I think it's going to be the Cavies.
