  1. World's Worst BBQ.....good stuff. Back on topic..... I have complete faith that The Crossmen will find an awesome home in San Antonio while keeping it's traditions alive (hopefully RRHS will lend a place to rehearse, That city is brutal when it comes to finding a good place). I can't wait to see what happens. Go Coogs! And Go Crossmen!
  2. Luckily for the Crossmen, there's a difference. The pilgrims had to face starvation and death when the winter months came around, but here in Texas, we don't believe in winter. It just doesn't happen. San Antonio will always be hot. And starvation will never be a problem because of Bill Miller's BBQ :P
  3. As a native Texan, I must say................that was funny.
  4. All of these negative attitudes. What would Super Coog do? Ok, enough of the inside stuff. I hope that all of the vets who wish to return to their corps find a way. I know it will be hard, but I wish all of you the best of luck. I know some people are worried about Revo and a loss in their membership. I think they'll be fine. Alot of the kids there love the corps and I know of a few who have turned down spots in some high ranking Div. 1 corps to march with Revo.
  5. Someone who always looks on the bright side when all seems bleak. Go Coogs!
  6. SCV's back-field echoing trumpet trio thing in their ballad. Sounds so cool.
  7. yeah, sometimes I dream I'm Bud Herseth..........but anyways..... That's a really good idea. Everyday on my way to practicing, I have my MP3 player with me and I'm listening to CSO, Canadian Brass (Fred Mills solo recordings), Sergei Nakarikov, etc. Not only does it set an example for what I want to sound like, but it gets me in the mood to play for a few hours. And then I WANT to practice and get ready for drum corps.
  8. My worst nightmare...and yes, I've seen kids cry in pain. My corps never really had a trainer. One of our parent volunteers was a nurse, but that's as far as it went for us. I know that some corps have doctors on board with them. The Cavaliers have Doc Bales (sorry if I misspelled the name) He's something like a 25 year emergency room doctor and a heck of a guy. He helps with my school band, making sure everybody has the right soles in their shoes and whatnot. Awesome guy. Every corps (and band) needs a guy like him.
  9. SCV For so many reasons that I can't put them all on here.
  10. The opening piece was called 'Contemplation.' It was based off of the music from the movie 'Signs,' so that might be where you heard it from. As for not making finals, my opinion is that Revo had a show that took a little longer to clean than the top 3 as far as drill goes (I don't remember much of the music from the other top corps to say that the music book was more difficult). The top 3 had clean shows visually, but it seemed like they weren't as daring. This is only my opinion, I don't really remember what captions Revo fell short in so I could be completely wrong. All I know is that I had a blast marching that show and I really enjoyed the top 3 shows. Well deserved placements for all corps, no complaints from me.
  11. Only teasing. I think you have the right idea, that's why I brought in the sarcasm.
  12. Hey now! It's WAY to early to be making those kind of predictions :P .
  13. This is the first season that I've actually taken a look at this this site and this forum. Thanks guys and gals, cause I love it.
  14. I would love to see Crossmen back in finals, but for now, great job to everybody in the 2006 season (my favorite season so far)!
  15. <**> I love my xeno....too bad a color guard gal decided to dance on it.
  16. Only if they were throwing products from the floats instead of candy. I wouldn't mind having a Yamaha Xeno trumpet tossed my way. Well.....maybe a jolly rancher or two.
  17. I can't wait to teach my girlfriend the ways of the Vanguard yell. It might only be in the theatre, but it'll be cool. I feel sorry for the poor folks in front of us tomorrow, cause God knows, that girl is loud. The yell is one of the main things that gets my heart racing at a show. And I'm just the guy yelling it. I can't imagine how hyped the members are when the crowd screams like that for them. I wish I was on the field for the yell at the 2004 finals. To me, that was one of the greatest drum corps moments I've ever witnessed. The intensity of the performance after the massive Vanguard yell pretty much stopped my heart. So now I always have a defibulator and a change of underwear on hand when SCV takes the field...just in case.
  18. What.. no drumline battle at the center of the field? C'mon guys, what would Nick Kannon (sp?) do? Sorry, had to do it. In all seriousness, though, I agree with the idea of a knife fight between directors. Sounds perfectly reasonable. And to answer the question of how I would feel to come out on bottom of the tie breaker...well.....I think I would be pretty bummed. I mean, on top of losing the title, I'd have to find a whole new director (A professional knife fighting director, and those are hard to come by nowadays). Such things can really break spirits, you know.
  19. My friend and I were watching Vanguard rehearse in Tomball, Texas a few weeks back (the day of the Houston show). For about 3 hours the corps would run sections over and over. You would think that a guy who's job is marching around a field the whole show would be off doing something else, but nope, he rehearses his part as much as everybody else. I thought it was cool.
  20. You are correct, sir! Unfortunatly, I don't think that cleanliness and purity will enhance it to the volume that alot of people prefer. I wish it would though. On the other hand, louder can alot of the times mean more dirt. So maybe the Cavies like to keep it backed off a little for better contol of tone. From what I saw, in 2003, they tried to take it up a notch or two and lost that Cavie clarity. It might just be me, but it just wasn't as clean as 02 or 04 when they weren't as loud. If they can play with a face melting volume and maintain that awesome ensemble sound that they are known for.....I will be forced to bring an extra change of underwear to the shows from now on. I hope I need to next summer.
  21. just checked out the comments made on digg.com. Good to see people who know what they're talking about, but not cool seeing people who don't know what they're talking about insulting him. grrr. Some of those people insulting him didn't even know it was a snare drum. <**>
  22. Don't get me wrong, I love it when a corps knocks me into the next row with a wall of loudness. But I guess the approach David Bertman takes with the Cavies does give the members a whole lot more to take back home after tour is over (more than alot of other corps, I figure). In a school or professional ensemble outside of drum corps, the regular drum and bugle corps approach is not always best, and ensemble skills can be very important in music education (although the looks on the faces of the clarinet section after you just covered up the whole band with your newly acquired dbc sound, can be very entertaining). Maybe that's what Bertman's going for, not only an amazing hornline, but a better chance for his guys to go back home as better musicians (I think he's more into educating than winning). His method does work for that. I've noticed a friends playing level before and after a summer with the Cavaliers. His ensemble and personal playing skills shot through the roof. Personally, I wished the caption head of the drum corps I was a member of did that. We impressed with volume, but I sure didn't come back any better. I think the method is great for the corps. If it means less volume outside, so be it, I'm still amazed by the quality. Second theory: Eddie Green is scaring Bertman into teaching his methods everywhere he can. Bertman complies because Green is that scary. I know I would.
