  1. I still say it's criminal that they got the rights to that beautiful theme from UP and didn't let the brass touch it...
  2. Brings back memories.Showing up the night before Allentown, parking next to the river. Some people brought tents, others just slept in their cars. Waking up early to the sound of drumlines warming up all around you. Breakfast at the diner, drum corps all day, some Yocco dogs, then back into the stadium for the evening finals... lemonade and funnel cakes... Some of the best days of mylife.
  3. Crown 5th in Percussion, probably 6th if Bloo was being scored, and 7th when Cavies in the mix...
  4. Birmingham 7/28 1 The Cavaliers 87.200 2 Colts 85.350 2 Troopers 85.350 4 Crossmen 81.900 5 Pacific Crest 81.750 6 Blue Knights 81.700 7 Spirit of Atlanta 79.650 8 Seattle Cascades 69.700
  5. Boston has no weaknesses. They are incredible in every caption.
  6. They won brass by .4 and percussion by .5 Those are healthy margins
  7. Cadets won brass, percussion and guard, visual proficiency and musical analysis and they came in second It just seems like nothing matters anymore except GE
  8. No, BD did not have a clean run at all tonight. Uncharacteristic brass issues, muddy body movement and drill... but GE has such an outsized weight it didn't matter
  9. Boston took brass and percussion, BD took GE, guard, music analysis, visual stuff
  10. I'll preface this with "BD will probably win"... but that BD show didn't look or sound unbeatable.
  11. The flying tarp was better on Saturday, it landed cleanly at the end and not in a giant heap. But still great GE.
  12. I'm watching the High Cam feed and it had no interruption
  13. I really enjoy this Phantom show, but even this late in the season I haven't got much of a clue why it's "Exogenesis". I hear one or two synth effects that might be space-y, see once or twice where members move oddly like an alien, and... what... the circle around the pit is a flying saucer? Or not? I dunno.... But I like watching and listening to it.
  14. Pretty sure the answer is a conglomerate of "In my day it was better because we: *select one or more* [ ] Wore real uniforms [ ] Didn't have narration [ ] Didn't have electronic sound effects [ ] Had screamers that didn't need to be mic'ed [ ] Played whole songs [ ] Played G instruments [ ] Played with a a rotor and one valve [ ] Would rumble in the parking lot [ ] Marched our timpani not this front sideline stuff

  17. When you watch the show sometimes the details get lost. Listening to this, the way they use dynamics within each phrase to shape it.... absurdly good.
  18. I felt like both Crown and Boston were better on Saturday, but tonight I'd give the edge to Boston's brass. Either way I expect it to be close. To my amatuer ears Boston's percussion was also really great.
  19. I've heard a lot of versions of On the Waterfront, starting with Garfield '86, but I think this is my favorite interpretation
  20. I think they had a better run in San Antonio. But even a meh run for Crown brass is something most others would aspire to.
