  1. In professional and amateur boxing, if you don't beat the count - "you're out" They naver say "knockout"
  2. There are several infamous drill moves that corps have made that were in reality very simple in design (not that they were easy to achieve) that I can watch over and over and still grin/laugh/tear-up in appreciation. A few of my favorites: 93 PR – full corps crabbing 87 Cadets – disappearing, reappearing company front 95 Madison – rotating company front
  3. 1. Seeing the new ending to Spartacus unveiled in Allentown, from row 16 on the 50 yard line - the place went nuts 2. "And in second place with a score of ninety-eight point one, nine eight point one..............Blue Devils" - The realization that PR won and the ensuing crowd reaction - phenomenal. 3. Fans of DCI breakfast - Troopers did their show in an arc in a very small ballroom - everything was shaking! Hornline heaven! 4. Bluecoats park and blow Boxer - awesome 5. Crown's Clair de Lune.
  4. I'd agree with: Cadets 84 PR 93 And add one that no one has mentioned (unless I missed it) - Madison 95 - The incredibly nuanced soloist playing the Concierto de Aranjuez.
  5. OK, I'll play along: 80 Spirit 83 Cadets 87 Cadets 88 Madison 89 PR 91 Cavies 91 PR 92 BD 92 VK 92 Star 93 Star 95 Madison 95 Colts 96 PR 97 Crossmen 97 Madison 98 Bluecoats 98 Glassmen 99 SCV 00 Cadets 00 Boston 06 Bluecoats 07 Crown 07 PR 08 PR
  6. Which is why it would have to be the only all male guard in the group - CAVIES!
  7. How is that going to affect the PR "On the Road" video with the Allentown performance and the championship encore performance??
  8. Well after reading through all of this, I have decided to respond, citing one glaring omission to the discussion: The creation of "Open" class last year that killed a lot of the Div 3 corps in one fell swoop. That I see as the most glaring failure of Acheson/DCI. Most of those corps were "local" corps, had the "regional" experience, many only competed on weekends. For many, they were the only entry level to DCI that was affordable to a lot of less priviledged kids. Now, many have been exterminated! Case in Point: 2005 II/III Prelims: 9 Div 2; 20 Div 3 = 29 corps 2006 II/III Prelims: 11 Div 2, 17 Div 3 = 28 corps 2008 18 open class = 18 corps
  9. Didn't Peter Bond of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra (trumpet) march Phantom Regiment?
  10. Drum Corps + friends in cheap hotel + beer = unbeatable weekend
  11. That's what came out of my Ouija Board. It was confirmed by my Magic 8 Ball. Relax, its all an inane prediction with no serious intent.
  12. Kansas??? What are they going to play, a medley of their hit (singular)?
  13. Ok, I'll play. According to my Ouija board: 1. Blue Devils (constantly seeking win number 13) 2. Cadets (if there is no narration) 3. Crown (moving up) 4. Phantom Regiment (how do you top Spartacus?) 5. SCV 6. Cavaliers 7. Bluecoats 8. Madison Scouts 9. Blue Stars 10. Colts 11. Boston 12. Crossmen 13. Troopers 14. Blue Knights 15. Glassmen 16. Jersey Surf 17. Spirit 18. Academy 19. Pacific Crest 20. Pioneer 21. Capital Regiment 22. Mandarins
  14. The problem(s) I'm having: it won't let me upload a photo or avater. I get the "Contact an administrator" message.
  15. I have to agree with this. What I found interesting is that the video quality varies depending on which camera is used in the shot. A lot of the "field" cameras have excellent quality. But the high cam doesn't look much bettter than a VHS in some cases (especially with lots of white - PR, Blue Stars, etc.). FYI, my receiver upconverts 480 to 1080i. It wasn't much help. That said, anamorphic is a step in the right direction. The sound quality, in most cases, is incredible. There does seem to be some mixing going on as the "blade" sound in PR's first murder is barely audible, but crystal clear in the 2nd and 3rd murders. But you can cleary hear the crowd going nuts at the end of PR's show. Still can't find any easter egg! But the scores video had me reliving the moment.
  16. Mine are due to arrive Monday. I think I'm gonna call in sick.......
  17. I'd add to that collection (I've worn mine out and need a new one): Got testosterone? Madison Scouts
  18. From the foregoing conversation, sounds like DCI should consider the movie solution - the extras disc! It could hold retreat, corps field entrances that were an integral part of the show, and even better - any alumni corps performances (I want 27th from 94!). They would not all have to be wide-screen and/or surround sound. And something I miss since the demise of the VHS - the Cesario/Rondinaro intros to each corps and features about a corps/member/director/section. Since those extras don't usually involve a lot of post production, they shouldn't add that much to the overall cost of the DVDs. They could even be sold separately.
  19. After reviewing my "your account has been charged" email, I noticed that my address was incomplete (missing the apartment number). I called to verify that they had the complete address (they did, some emails did not include apartment numbers). I asked when DVDs would be shipped - they expect the DVDs to arrive later this week and will being shipping as soon as they are received.
  20. Hit my account today! Might have to start camping out at the mailbox earlier than anticipated!
  21. My other half decided one year to hide the DVDs when they arrived and give them to me for x-mas. In the meantime, I had contacted DCI several times looking for them. He finally fessed up about two weeks before x-mas. Needless to say, I wasn't a happy camper and that didn't happen again.
