  1. Hey DCP! The website I created with a bunch of polls for several categories is now up. Vote for the best in each category! In most categories, you can select up to three corps listed, just in case you're in a dilemma. If you only feel that one corps deserves a certain honor, you need not to pick any more. LINK: 2014 DCI World Class "Best of" Polls <<< VOTE HERE! The website is admittedly pretty generic and there are over 30 polls to participate in. I will tally up the votes and post them to DCP after Finals. Have fun! Oh and I tried to be as comprehensive as possible... some questions might be redundant. Sorry!
  2. Where his Casella nowadays anyway? Does he still arrange/compose for drum corps?
  3. The Cavaliers aren't in this show... Anyway, WOW what a final four lineup! All four are vying for a medal and each has a fairly legitimate chance at achieving one! A couple more than others but you never know.
  4. WOW this was really random! I all of a sudden had this urge to look up clips of the show "3rd Rock from the Sun" and landed on a video called "Sally's Dream" I remember seeing this in the show a LONG time ago but have forgotten it since. Lo and behold the music in Sally's dream was the theme from La Strada. Really pretty and funny sequence. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7omhgBaLQD0
  5. And the result looks freakin amazing! I really wish I had graphic design skills up to that level. Kudos to this guy--perhaps he's on here? Would love to see something similar done for all corps. UPDATE: According to the comments in his reddit thread, it looks like he is working on one for each corps and will be released at the same time! http://www.reddit.com/r/dci/comments/2akg14/i_designed_a_blue_knights_soccer_logo_hope_you/
  6. Soo... back to SCV. Good luck at TOC tonight and beyond!
  7. Hey all, I'm creating a website where you can vote for the best of the best by category, kind of like a high school yearbook. (ex. Most likely to succeed, etc.) Still in the building stage but it's pretty easy to make; however, I just wanted some of your input on different questions to poll. The format will be that you can select up to 2 (or three, depending on question) corps that fit the category. You can, of course, opt to choose only one if you'd like. Polls will open and close at specific times and I will also see if I can post these on other social media outlets for other fans to vote. Here is what I have so far for categories and please give me suggestions on if I should add, remove, or modify the categories. I was thinking of adding different sections of the hornline/perussion; however, I honestly don't know the names of the different "main" instruments played in the hornline. I would probably place Trombone in a "special instrument" section. Aesthetics: Best uniforms, not including colorguard? (Pick 2) Best drum major(s) uniform? (Pick 2) Best-looking drill? (Pick 2) Most difficult-looking drill? (Pick 2) Music+Visual: Best opener (music+drill)? (Pick 2) Best ballad (music+drill)? (Pick 2) Best middle-of-the-show music (music+drill)? (Pick 2) Best closer (music+drill)? (Pick 2) Best use of props? (Pick 2) Music: Best arrangement compared to original source? (Pick 2) Best use of synthesizers/electronics? (Pick 2) Best overall musical package? (Pick 2) Best hornline book? (Pick 2) Best percussion book? (Pick 2) Most difficult hornline book? (Pick 2) Most difficult percussion book? (Pick 2) Hornline: Best hornline overall? (Pick 2) Percussion: Best looking drums? (Pick 2) Best drumline? (Pick 2) Best front ensemble? (Pick 2) Color Guard: Best color guard outfits? (Pick 2) Best silks/flags? (Pick 2) Best rifle & saber stunts? (Pick 2) Best overall package? (Pick 2) Pick your top 3 favorite shows for 2014.
  8. Sorry, forgive me. I've never marched a field show or anything like that. Never even a technical lesson on how to march when I was in band for all of one year.
  9. Dang how does BD get so clean when other corps like SCV look so dirty compared? I've read somewhere before that it's marsching style or something? Can someone explain?
  10. Wow. That new ending is SICK. First time in awhile BD has tugged a bit at the heart strings. BRAVISSIMO! QUICK QUESTION: I've noticed that their "stage lighting" have actual lights in it. Im guessing those are allowed now? If so, since when?
  11. I don't know if it's my general love for SCV but this show has totally grown on me since the beginning of the season. It really stands on its own vs 2004 and I am glad I got to experience this beauty of a show twice this year! Good luck in ATL and beyond and medal!
  12. I think I heard someone mention that, in order for them to use the bones for free or for rent, that they would not be allowed to march them because if they bought them outright, it would cost tens of thousands of dollars.
  13. You're assuming BD will win, esp. with a score at or above 99.15. Cadets, Bluecoats, and SCV might have something to say about that. Also, with a score above 99.15, the Blue Devils will likely have to win nearly every single caption and subcaption. They probably won't take brass and percussion is too competitive to guarantee anything.
  14. Ooh, new arrangement of "Send in the Clowns!" Sounds awesome! Probably still prefer the old one though. http://youtu.be/FfNhitt_a_o
  15. Pfft... Sovereign Class was the #### during that time.
  16. I would probably have to agree with you about the mid to late 90s being the most comparable to today's shows, at least with the past shows not being modified. If I can ask, how do you think 90's/early 2000s shows would compete if certain modifications were made so that, let's say... instruments were of a quality at today's standards, adding electronics, etc. Basically, how would a modernized/updated Cadets 93 score against Crown 2013?
  17. Eh, I just find it fun to think about is all. This is not really a serious topic--was just trying to see the opinions of the more experienced.
  18. LOL you'd think we'd be in Vancouver or LA.
  19. I was generally thinking 5+ years or so from 2013/14. You had the right idea, opining that 2002 Cavies would still be competitive but 1978 Vanguard would not even be in Finals. To expand, how do you think 1978 Vanguard's show concept would be if they tweaked stuff around to match today's sheets? Do you think the general concept would win over judges today?
  20. I've been curious lately on how the champion shows of previous years (5+ years back) would score on today, assuming they do not change a single thing about their show. Also, I've also been curious as to how said show would perform if they were to make changes that would fit today's rules and judging criteria. For example, how do you think the champions of 1999 would score today, without changes to their program? How would they score if they made small changes to their program that fits today's judging criteria? Furthermore, if you'd like to, are there even shows that didn't win that would be competitive today, essentially being ahead of their time in a way? I'd love to hear your opinion on champions of the past---if you want, it'd be cool to simply see a list of how you would score a corps both with and without changes.
  21. Oops, sorry, forgot to quote the link DWilliams provided.
  22. Did... did BD just OFFICIALLY post a video of their FULL show for FREE on YouTube? Ladies and gentlebeings... Not in a month without Sundays, hell hath just frozen over with pigs seen flying across the globe. The sun has risen in the West and money has been collected directly from the trees. Victoria's secret has been revealed and it's Christmas in June.
  23. OK cool. Too bad I can never see this live in person :-(, it would have been so awesome to see. Hopefully the finals recordings will record it so that the transition between hornline and synth will be seamless.
