  1. The opener was a anime TV theme, but the closer was a piece written for jazz ensemble, not a game theme.
  2. The original version of Remembrance is the Concerto Grosso. It is a 5 part work that was edited to be used the way the corps performed it in 1990 and in 1998. The recording by the National Youth orchestra is the only recording of the original tune in its original form that I am aware of.
  3. Here's to hoping a top level drum corps does a Don Ellis show, his music has been gone too long from the field. Raiders did a cool version of Strawberry Soup a few years ago though.
  4. I think it could work, and here's why. Is it simple. Yes. Are most corps as people have pointed out doing more complex music, mostly. But...each time a corps does a piece of music, do they always stay true to the source material, no. Do they change around chordal structure, yes. Do they re-invent many of the pieces, often beyond original recognition, all the time! So, if you had the right arranger, and they were creative enough, it would work. Example-Scouts 2007 version of Kashmir, not at all like the original, other than a few moments. Wayne Downey re-invents music all the time, and it works. So, right arranger, YES it would work. Wrong arranger, will fail miserably, but then again, I think that would go with ANY show.
  5. Take a look on the Scouts page under staff, there are many, many great people working with the corps this season. Not to mention others working in other capacities. The Scouts are in great hands for 2008!
  6. Madison is 70 this year!!! Which I believe puts Cadets at 75? If so, that's quite a milestone for both organizations!
  7. I think it's a great idea to have lower fees for vets. How much? Well I guess that should reflect the financial stability of the corps. If the corps can successfully have lower fees that are drastic, then right on, if they can't, then do what they can. I think the only way that could be the case would be on a corps by corps basis, as each corps has their own budget and financial dealings that are different from all others.
  8. Those are some great people putting the show together, should be exciting!~
  9. What are everyone's favorite Tichelli pieces? Oh, for those that don't like him, I asked for favorites not essays about why we dont like his music.
  10. I hope they play the last movement from his 2nd symphony. It's pretty sweet.
  11. Let's not forget that these statements are peoples own hearing/opinion and that what I hear, or what you hear, is going to be different from ALL others. Not to mention, for those of us who were not at the events that the original poster commented on, we do not really have a basis for comparison. Now for those of you that were there, give your opinion, but that is all the OP was doing.
  12. I think it's dead and buried. It was fun while it lasted, but I don't think it could have the same longevity like the old corps photos in the history section
  13. SCV is one of those corps that has changes, but typically does good things when those changes happen. Look at the corps right around the time Gail Royer, God Bless his soul, retire, and then passed away. The corps stayed strong and moved on. In 2005 they were placed low-even though I still believe it was a great show and corps that year, made changes, and the corps was strong in 2006. I would not worry about them. As far as why people leave, whether they are fired, asked to leave, whatever, it happens. I'll be if we went through every corps, took all their staff members from the corps inception through now, I am willing to be that more people that teach/have taught corps have less years in that capacity than those that have 20+ years.
  14. I guess I can add my two cents. Nick worked with the Scouts when I was marching and was an incredible teacher and person. It's great to see him back home. I feel bad for SCV as this is a great loss, but they are an amazing corps that will fill the position with in a smart way, so they will be fine. This is another great person added to the 2008 Scouts though!!!
  15. If that's the case, I honestly wouldn't be overly surprised, but that's me and my dark, obstructed views.
  16. Wow, this thread has gone pretty far past the OP's initial remarks.
  17. So then valve trombones should work? I mean, it worked for Juan Tizol in Duke Ellington's band. Oh, were not talking band? I kid.
