  1. 1968! Marching junior with the Royal Lancers (Wyandotte,Mi). Joined after VFW state and marched first show at AL state. Legion state had about 17 corps there for prelims and I remember being a rookie on the line watching some of the other corps perform thinking "wow!". Show went fine...initiations after finals....well we don't like to talk about that...! :sshh:
  2. Yep, we had the plan to just go on as a mini-corps and take the penalties for being oversized but then were told that we would not be let on the field. So therefore we took a vote and decided to compete in Class A. We had to add time and drill to the show. (including my sop solo at the very beginning of the show along with Amber & Duane & Ann). Senior corps at it's best! (what...you can't do that!) B)
  3. Moving forward, the only important issue is how we can ALL work together to get the Skyliners back on the field in 2008. Which we must do, as DCA is not DCA without the Skyliners. Having marched drum corps since 1968 and "learning" what corps was with Cabs, Hurcs, and SKY I can only echo what everyone else is saying...NO SKYLINERS...no DCA. We need them back on the field in 2008. Nuff said.
  4. I used to march against Bill in juniors (I was a Lancer, Bill a Green Hornet) in the 60's and later we marched together in the Kilties Sr. We were part of the Mich Trolls (Bill, his brother Gary, Aldo, Maury and Me) Later we added Buzz and Preacher. I consider getting to know Bill one of the greatest pleasures in my life. We had a tight little group and enjoyed many a road trip in his truck to Racine. I am grateful that I got to see Bill last year at DCA and say hi. I did not know he was sick. Drum corps is less one drum corps god. Rest in peace. WWBD. Kemo
  5. "golly Mr. Peabody what about the great Argonne Rebel lines of 71-73?". Let's not forget Suncoast Sound either.
  6. King L-90 2 valve G Contra bass for sale. No case. Removable bell. Good condition for age. No major dings. Great for alumni or newer senior corps. Price and shipping to be negotiated via email. Kemo
  7. 1969 Yankee Rebels!! The crowd was going nuts as soon as they turned into the closer.
  8. Walt, it's nice to see your still around as well. Aldo is drum corps "retired" as his old knees are almost as wrecked as his old lip. (ha ha). I marched up till last year and will sit this one out due to business travel but will return to the battle next year. I think the last time we saw each other was at 2001 DCA when I was marching with Kilts. Or maybe a couple of years later. My mind is starting to go...but at least I still have my chops! Take care and see ya on the 50!
  9. Having marched with Walt in OBF for three years I know what a great guy and exceptional horn player he is. We have seen each other off on on in DCA since and he still is one of the coolest guys in corps. I too have been marching and with corps since 68 and have met many many people outstanding individuals but Walt is one of the BEST! Congrats Walt! (how come we're not in DCHOF yet...we're old enough and have been around since the rams horn and hollow log...lol) Go Bucs.
  10. I remember that one! Nothing like hearing "Patton" with timbali and bongos!!!! Same strange sensation with 75 and the steel drums!
  11. Hey JC, it was 68 AND 69 for Hall of the Mountain King. And I remember Menominee playing it as well in 69. How are you doing? Kemo
  12. Cavies played "Hall of the Mountain King" for concert in 69. Rigby in 70,71,72. Like the Mens Wharehouse says"I guarantee it!" B)
  13. Cavies 1967 "Bully" otl Royal Airs 1967 "Casino Royale" Troopers "Black Saddle" any year Kilties 1969 "Strike Up the Band" and Cavies played "rigby" in 70 and 71 for concert.
  14. Wow. The first time I ever saw Drum Corps was back around 1960 or 61 at a Memorial Day show at a military base not to far from York, Pa. In fact we lived in Columbia, Pa at that time and later moved to Mount Joy. The corps we saw those years was Hawthorne!!! I think that experience was what got me involved in corps. My dad by the way was also part of the York Kiltie Pipe Band from the VFW at that time. This is a small world. Kemo
  15. Hey Darren. We play Bb horns and use Yamaha drums I think. (could be Dynasty though) Come on up.
  16. Without a doubt this might be one of the greatest years ever in DCA. I remember a couple of years where there were ONLY 13 corps period at DCA let alone 13 plus in Open and almost that potential in Class A. But with all these classy corps being mentioned in this thread...beware of the quiet ones! LSM wants to "play".
  17. Wow. I almost want to come down and march with you guys from Michigan. Is Jim Gillespie (sp) still with you? I marched with him in Brass Factory. Can't wait to see you back at DCA.
  18. My vote would be for Yankee Rebels for sure. (I'm an former-Marine) But what about the Ohio Brass Factory? We knocked heads with Steel City, Empire, Erie, Guelph, and Westshoremen for a couple of years and were knocking on the DCA finals door with a couple of 13th places. (12th would have got us on the records) There have been a great many good corps in Senior that have come and gone. But I would love to see Rebels back on the field and shaking it up.
  19. Lakeshoremen will without a doubt be at DCA this year. The corps has purchased a complete set of raincoats, rubber boots and Hurricane lamps! We are looking forward to setting the EARTH in motion with the WIND of the next prelims storm and the FIRE of our sound!!! Can't wait to see everyone during the season and good luck to all our brothers and sisters in Class A. (hey big boys...that sound you hear isn't foot steps sneaking up on you...its the sound of a stampede headed for Rocha cha). Class A all the way. B)
  20. How do we keep tradition in drum corps..just like the frog strangling the big bird trying to eat him...NEVER GIVE UP! I know we'll never go back to marching on the 50, valve/rotors or single tenor drums but we have to keep what we've got as far as what makes corps unique. -call a high horn a soprano not a trumpet. It wasn't so much type of horn as a brass voice -same for contra bass not tuba! -NEVER EVER have anything thing other than brass and percussion making music, no amps, no voice, no STRINGS. -bring the quard (not the auxillury) back into the drill proper not always on the outside of the main form. -have the kids in your corps understand and respect the past or they will not have a future. I march in an Senior corps not a "all-age" corps (which we are called) and the only way we can keep ANY tradition alive is to teach the kids that march with us what the Heritage of corps really is. And it did not start with DCI! If the younglings don't respect where we came from who is going to respect them when their done? MARCH UNTIL YOUR DEAD! (or at least run out of money)
  21. This looks great. I could see as many Class A competing as Open class next year. Fantastic for Senior corps. (sorry old school). Good luck to everyone next year. Kemo
  22. "With the EARTH beneath our feet and the WIND behind our backs the Lakeshoremen will on FIRE"!!! If we don't get another hurricane at DCA it looks like it's going to be a great season for all senior corps. Good luck to all and see ya on the field. Kemo
