  1. This is the type of post I find most offensive. I do not find G's posts offensive -- I like honest discourse. Vic Russell
  2. I am assuming that you did not identify yourself as a lawyer, because it is apparent from your post that you know nothing about the law. Also, you are assuming facts in your hypothetical that were not stated in the original post. But, everyone is entitled to an opinion and there is no requirement that an opinion be informed. Vic Russell
  3. I have written very few posts this year. But, when I read a post wherein a person who calls himself a teacher brags about hunting down a student who expressed opinions out of school that the self-identified teacher did not like, that was too much for me. It is one thing for posters on this forum to try to suppress or belittle other opinions, but I think it is reprehensible for a teacher to do to a student what the self-identified teacher stated he did to his student. As a lawyer and a life-long member of the ACLU, I felt compelled to express my opinion on this matter and I did. Vic Russell
  4. Thanks for the tip, Tsar. I have always found your posts offensive -- none more so than this post wherein you detail how you abused a student who had the gall to anonymously express opinions that did not meet with your approval. I hope and pray that your teaching days are over forever so that your only recourse for trying to suppress other peoples' opinions is in a forum like DCP. Vic Russell
  5. Thisis the only show I MUST see this year. So, I have a ticket for semifinals in Madison. Vic Russell
  6. Is Scott Stewart working with Pioneer? I didn't know that. That is really great news for me because I think Scott put on the most entertaining shows in the activity when he was director of the Scouts. Vic Russell
  7. To me, this poster is trying to discourage forum members from engaging in critical analysis of DCI. For people who refuse to engage in critical analysis, citing facts to support a viewpoint must be a foreign concept. It really bothers me that some of the worst offenders on this forum (KingMargeret and TXMystreaux) are teachers!!!! What kind of future is in store for our society if critical analysis (no matter the topic) is discouraged by teachers? I do not recall anyone posting that he/she wants DCI to fail. I have, however, read many posts that suggest DCI should change its policies to improve the activity. I do not agree with every post suggesting that DCI should change. I do appreciate, however, the fact that so many people have suggestions to offer that can be discussed and analyzed on DCP. Vic Russell
  8. This KingMargeret character is some twisted person. That fact that KingMargeret posts tons of nonesense on this forum doesn't bother be at all. It scares me, however, to think that this person is a teacher. Vic Russell
  9. I find that TX's posts are usually absurd, so I can understand why he has an affinity for that word. Vic Russell
  10. It takes a he** of a lot of nerve for someone from Florida to talk about crooked elections in Chicago. Vic Russell
  11. I think the numbers for Wisconsin and Illinois are somewhat deceptive. Many of the Wisconsin shows do no include Division 1 corps (except for Pioneer). My impression is that most of the DCI-sponsored shows in Northern Illinois/Southern Wisconsin took place before July 4th this year. I was unable to make any of them. I really miss a July DeKalb, Illinois show that features all of the Mid-West Division 1 corps. Next year will be much better for our area with finals in Madison. Vic Russell
  12. I do not hate the Cadets or Hop. There have been years (2002, for example) when I really liked the Cadets' show. But, I was amazed last night (having seen the 04 show for the first time at the Cinema) how pedestrian a show the Cadets put on the field this year. Definitely not a top 4 show. Hardly a top 12 show. I believe the Cadets' placement last night demonstrates the influence of reputation and political clout in scoring. Vic Russell
  13. I think you will be waiting the rest of your life for a reasonable explanation from DCI on how its judges apply (unpublished) criteria to evaluate and score specific drum corps' performances. I think that DCI judging practices are mostly kept secret because DCI knows its practices (such as how it applies judging criteria to a particular performance) will not stand up under scrutiny. Vic Russell
  14. Thanks for the review. I always appreciate it when someone who is knowledgeable about the activity takes the time to write a review of a show. Vic Russell
  15. Thanks for the great review, Harvey. I really appreciate it when someone with your knowledge and insight posts a review for the rest of us. Vic Russell
  16. Profhill, Thanks so much for taking the time to write a review. I didn't detect any bias in your reviews (at least not as we normally think of bias -- coloring the review in favor of a particular corps). I thought the reviews were well done and very descriptive of the corps’ performances. I can understand the disappointment of the people who wanted other corps in the show reviewed. Nonetheless, you are the one who made the effort to post reviews and it is your call as to which corps you want to review. I, for one, am grateful. Vic Russell
  17. I finally have an insight into the problem with DCI scoring. The visual judges are calling the shots. Yet, in my view, this is a musical activity. The biggest mistake was giving the so-called color guard (dancers?) a separate score. Secondly, the visual effect score appears to give too much weight to the color guard. I think emphasizing dance over music is a huge mistake. Do visual-effect judges have any musical background?
