  6. Did the seats used to come free with a Friends membership? I joined at the lowest level for the first time this year, solely because I wanted access to the Friends seats. (Though I do hope the donation helps the organization in some small way.) I emailed the office upfront to confirm that the right to purchase seats in the Friends block were guaranteed with a membership. They said they were, and I got my assignments a few days ago. I got my second choice of section, which was better than I thought I might get for a first-time membership. The reason I joined is because I haven't had luck getting seats in the sections I want for quite a few years. I used to be able to get good seats off DCP Marketplace, but those seemed to be fewer and more far between over the last 10 years or so. Maybe I'm just too much of a noob to know what I missed out on with the Friends program of the past, but I'm pretty happy with what I got. used to come with free seats, a parking pass, an option to purchase additional tickets, and a friends luncheon/breakfast. the last breakfast was 2019 and will probably gone for 2022. but they have money to have a session with all the corps drum majors in indy every year.
  7. FDCI dropped all the benefits associated with the program and now is basically a PSL. Thoughts?

  9. We all know them, volunteers who work(ed) tirelessly and anonymously behind the scenes for their favorite corps. Folks who could also make us laugh and put a smile on our face. I’d like to recognize the following, for their countless hours of dedication and service: Papa D (RIP) - CMCC Warriors Aunt Nellie (RIP) - Garfield Cadets Carole & Lou Avilla (RIP) – Santa Clara Vanguard
  10. I am sure you’ve all seen the drumline parking lot videos, but where did all this originate? I’ll tell you, in the Boogie Down Bronx. Long before Vic Firth et al, were in the mix, Ron Person and Shawn Simons were out there changing the game forever. Ron and Shawn both marched with the CMCC Warriors back in the 80’s. And out of this experience grew their love of drumming and the presence of mind to capture those pre-show drumline moments ‘in the lot.’ They realized that the notes in the parking lot was where the real action was taking place. In fact, they were so much into the parking lot notes that I don’t think they even bothered to go in and check out the shows. After ageing out, Ron went on to teach with the CMCC, NY Lancers and Spirit of Newark, while Shawn did some driving for the Crossmen back in the 90’s. Ron currently resides in Tampa, FL and Shawn is living in NYC. Before there were the Slick Vic productions, Ron and Shawn were out there just for the love of it! There may not be a World Class drum corps in NYC, but there are World Class drum corps people in NYC! Thank you, Ron and Shawn, the originators of the Parking Lot Videos. BHM+1
  11. I know SCV had them for the tenors in 1973 and perhaps earlier. Have no idea why we didn’t think to use them for the snare and bass drums until much later? I know Lou Avilla was making them in his garage in the 70’s for SCV. Maybe he got the specs from Menke? I’ll have to ask him.
