  1. So some people HAVE to be home from the event... WHERES THE PICTURES??!?
  2. Dont we need a few for contras for Thunder.. just sayin..
  3. Even with more horns in the line. Volume hands down.. but soon or a later someone will figure it out
  4. From what I heard from a friend who marched Phantom in 08 (on King, Lead Trumpet) They are a MUCH better horn than Dynasty's. I absolutly hated playing on the Dynasty last year (and gave bad experience to Bb). The only note that was far fetched in tuning was my G above the staff, at a remarkable 30 cents sharp with most other notes 3-5 cents either way (normal). Everyone I had play it had the same problem. Best horn I played to date... G Kanstul Powerbore. The tuning is superior to any Bb I have played (I am poor, cant afford 2000 for a horn)
  5. Dont want Dynasty "marching" brass to be confused with Blue Devils "Sitting" Brass I kid... surprised no one said it yet..LOL *edit, cant spell*
  6. Kanstul?? They are from Cali.. good way to get into the market. (And I know the dream of all of us G supporters wont come true.. but we can dream cant we?)
  7. I like this... just make it Mr. Moto in 06 with his horn also. Then the others are walking around with staplers, etc etc
  8. Looking to buy a G Piccolo Soprano and/or a G Meehaphone, hopefully there are a few out there someone is willing to sell to someone wanting to try something new and challenging. I know these are both rare, but someone out there has to have one just sitting around collecting dust.
  9. Woodwinds will have to be allowed because they cannot teach them how to play brass anymore... kinda the same reason for the new stuff.
  10. I personally do this when possible. I prefer the tuning for D as open, C# as 2, and even C as 1. I was taught this by Jamie Orser and really feel it helps tuning on my Kanstul Powerbore. I havent tried 2nd valve for Double C, I am going to have to try this. I have used 3rd for A and C before just because I have seen people do it.. but will have to try it!
  11. And here I was to believe that there was ACTUALLY a review in this thread in the REVIEW SECTION
  12. Yea I did too... he cracked a few notes also pretty bad.
  13. From what I remember, it was a Baritone player named Josh... but not the current snare Josh Kelley (at least from what he says ) Dont know if this is true.. just wanted to poke fun at a freind
  14. I agree with Sayre, most people that come back have been to a few camps already this year. They are members who wanted to do DCI, and they are just welcomed back into the family. By doing this, you encourage other younger members in the future that they are stil welcome back when they return (If you disagree with this, its like your son/daughter gets back from college and you tell them they have to get an apartment for the summer.. kinda) Normally, the member tells you that they are coming back, and you write them in knowing they will come... but sometimes, you just have a hole and they fill it, no matter what instrument it is.
  15. Its the players.. not the horns! (Unless they are in G.. dont wanna get into that discussion!!)
  16. We did something like this in the Boston area in 2005. We all went to DCI finals Saturday then had a Sunday afternoon show. I think I remember Brigs, ES, and Cabs there.
  17. Just the thought of that made me almost fall out of the chair... Please no one post pics of any "prototypes".. LOL
  18. Tommy, Thanks for the complement, missed not seeing you this weekend! As for my prospective on this whole thing. I personally asked some of the kids from Erie what they were doing this summer, but once they told me that they were marching Statesmen OR Crusaders I left it alone. It is there choice on where they want to march, and I don't agree with hounding members of another drum corps to try to recruit for THAT season. My whole thing was just letting people know in the area that we are trying (And still are) to start a corps in Erie. Even though they are marching, that doesn't mean that they don't have a friend who would like to get started in the activity or doesn't want to travel. As for all the Cru comments... every single member of the Rochester Crusaders practice AS HARD as every other corps, in the same weather, in the same heat, and on the weekends. Scores DO NOT reflect the hard work every corps puts in for the true goal, Entertaining the fans! Keep it up Crusaders, we are making strides every week, just keep working as hard!
  19. To me, the difference of the sound is the trumpet/sop voice at first. That is until you go farther away from the corps (or standing outside the stadium. With a Bb line, you basically "lose" the low brass with the distance. The low brass of the G line is what helps give the "hit in the chest" feeling. Now that I have played in a G and Bb line... I still prefer the G line. The horn tendancies(tuning) are slightly worse on the Bb horns we are currently using. And I agree... a good player can make anything sound good, and lesser players always find ways to complain or give reasons why they dont sound good. My favorite G is a tie with my Kanstul Powerbore soprano or the Dynasty 5/4 4 valve contra (things a beast, and love the sound of it)
  20. Bridgeport 60.913 Rochester 64.9 Dont think so...
  21. I am with you on this also... I am marching my first year in a Bb/F line this year. I honestly do not think that the horns are easier to play in tune, and you are talking about the tendancies of every note anyway (which you do on the G horns also). Hornlines in the 80's would of got their ### kicked with Bb/F against the G lines. The judges were rewarding the musicanship that it "took" to "master" the horns. Donny Allen once told me the only reason Bb/F are "better" is because of the production of the horns. You have a worst chance of getting a "lemon" horn off the Bb/F line because of the quantity of them made. So basically, Bb/F was better because the line had less horns that didnt "match" and play "well" with the others. Most G lines by the end were NOT buying a full set at a time, and would just buy hanful of sops, mellos, or baris (etc). And they were having different types of horns (king 2v, Dynasty, Kanstul, etc). So the basic tuning tendancies of the line were not the same because they were not built around the same time frame (and a few corps I have played with have horns from the first 3v models all the way to current). The musicians that we are learned how OUR horns played, knew the tendancies and adapted how OUR horn would play. If any top 6 DCI corps went G (new line from Kanstul or Dynasty), the Bb/F discussion would be put to the test! Someone hit the lottery and buy a corps a full hornline, and then we will know the truth PS - 3 Valve Kasntul with the 4 Valve Contras for Crown (of course in G)
