  1. Way to go Onyx!!!! Keep it up!! I'm hoping Blessed Sacrament will pull up a bit and that Onyx can maybe bump out NEI for a medalist spot : )
  2. I think Warren Central might sneak up in there and grab the bronze... that would be awesome!
  3. I'm not 100% sure, but I think he worked with Winston Churchill High School and possibly the Crossmen.

  5. mojo67 - I did see Warren Central; I apologize for forgetting them! They were very energetic and really did a fantastic job. I couldn't believe how fast it all was - they never let up! A true credit to their endurance. The tarp is amazing as well. It was a thrill to see them back in the TSC.
  6. Just a few quick thoughts on the groups at the TSC Championships heading to WGI later this week. Beechwood High School(KY) - A very well thought out show with some excellent showcasing of members. Utilizing some peel back sections (revealing off-color images of the performers no less!), the show was about "Poses". Very nice staging- these ladies are VERY well trained. A couple mis-haps with the tarp caused the flag feature to struggle just a touch, but the show ended wonderfully with a "POSE" : ) Milford High School (OH) - Potraying ants at a picnic ... just a delightful little production. The engineering feats for their huge picnic basket is just astounding. The parents set it up and tear it down in what seems like seconds. The ladies did a very good job and had some stellar moments, particularly on flag. Well thought out (and musicical!) writing/choreography should help push this show into semi-finals. O2 (aka Onyx "A") - A very nice show from O2. Some fantastic flag choreography that was very sensitive to the music. Elizabethtown Independent (KY) - WOW! A wonderful openening movement statement that leads into some great equipment moments. This show is very well written/staged/etc. I'm eager to see how they do at WGI - top 5 is VERY possible! Kings High School (OH) - A tender and stunning program to "True Colors" by Cindi Lauper. These ladies have improved leaps and bounds from the preview show in January and their maturity is showing its head at the right time. Several "360" turns under tosses are just a few highlights to this excellent production. Onyx (OH) - scoring a 92(plus change), Onyx had a great run. The more I see this show, the more powerful it gets. The ending is especially emotional and the performers did a great job pulling off some wonderfully difficult choreography. The colors and staging really help bring this program to life. By far the best Onyx show to date (IMHO) - I predict top 5 Saturday night at WGI. A great achievement for their 20th anniversary. A personal favorite (not attending WGI) - George Rogers Clark High School (KY) performed a remarkable program that was litered with musicality! Depicting leaves and the changing of the seasons, the ladies are well trained and perform like it is what they were born to do. GREAT job!!
  7. Aimachi performed at the Tri-State Circuit championships last night. A HUGE crowd gave them a very warm welcome. Costumes, floor, props, and flags are really great. They were missing 4 members who were reportedly at the baton twirling world championships... their absence was felt in a couple sections, but for the most part you would have never known. LOTS of turning around underneath tosses.... a few batons here and there for fun. Perhaps they were jet lagged ( the flight was over 30 hours?), but they dropped quite a few times and just seemed a bit shakey. None the less, it was a remarkable performance. The whole show progresses smoothly and is a joy to watch. I sat down close to the floor, so I'm not sure what it looks like from up top. They did not compete, but were given a score from the judges. I have no idea what their number was or would have been. Should be VERY exciting to see them go up against all the other IW units later this week. I hope they return to the TSC again in the future- it was a pleasure having them!! : )
  8. I know my kids and I are SUPER excited they are coming to Tri-STate!! I can't wait!
  9. I'm looking for Cadets tour videos from 1990 1991 1992 1993 1994 1997 1998 1999 Thanks to anyone who has these (and is willing to sell) or has info on how I could get them!
  10. Thank you for a very well thought out and charming review! I just watched Tarpon Springs on the Fan Network. WOW. I whole heartedly agree with your comments on this group.... just simply amazing. I felt like I was right in the work room with them as they manufactured the dresses(and flags). Just a brilliant concept! I hope that they do make the journey to Dayton this year and wow the big crowd up north. Spectacular job ladies!!
  11. GO AVON! : ) They got a 92 at the Indiana state finals this past weekend.
  12. 1. NEI 2. Corona 3. Aimachi 4. Onyx 5. Blessed Sacrament 6. Santa Clara Vanguard 7. Braddock 8. Zydeco 9. Black Watch 10. Crown Guard 11. Alter Ego 12. Premoniton 13. Black Gold 14. The Knights 15. Sacred Heart
  13. Opus 10 should do well - the trademarks are all in the program (impeccable dance technique, musical writing, stunning hand painted flags). A wonderful "welcome back" production. Interplay Open is just tons of fun to watch - a brilliant idea with some of my favorite staging moments. Juxtaposition is also quite enjoyable and, hopefully, will do nicely. : )
  14. I don't think there will be a tie..... would be interesting, but highly doubtful. From what I know, the men from Pride who went to Japan were hand picked ... at least that's what I understand. The entire top 5 of IW will be VERY interesting...
  15. Hmmm I'm drawing blanks on who all is in this class, but here's my favs: Lake Central Marian Catholic Pope Kings West Johnston Gates Chili Mechanicsburg Valenica Crestview Tarpon Springs
  16. Not sure who all is in IA, but these are the groups I hope to see on the DVD: O2 Elizabethtown Ind. Art 101
  17. I guess when it comes down to it, I'm just going to design my shows the way I think is best and will be fun and challenging to my kids. Until someone comes up with a "How to write an A class show" guidebook, I'm sticking with what I've always done - seems to be going alright thus far.... of course, if I ever have an Open or World class guard I'll need a handbook for that too.... LOL! Oh well, as long as my kids are having fun and know how to spin/dance I'm happy : )
  18. Here's my list: 1. Avon 2. James Logan 3. Carmel 4. Flanagan 5. Warren Central 6. Choctawhatchee 7 Arcadia 8. Rancho Bernardo 9. Miamisburg 10. Cheshire 11. Trumbull 12. Center Grove 13. Americas 14. Shenendehowa 15. ?????
  19. World class vocabulary - look at Diamond Bar High School (2004-2008), Crown Guard (2000-2002), Mayflower (2003,2005), Chimeras (1999), Corona (2004, 2006-present). Seamless connection of phrases; more difficult flag work. I HATE 45 tosses. I don't care if you can do them cleanly.... that's great. Throw a 45 toss, and run and catch someone elses flag, otherwise leave it out. Use more of the body with the flag (Onyx is good at this), rifle and sabre (Corona doing body rolls with sabre). Make it hard.... the cleaner the better, but make it hard. Safe does not equal world class. It equals A class. DON'T BE SAFE! Stanley Knaub would not have been safe. Don't stop spinning until the music stops. I learned that from Stanely Knaub. If the music is still playing, you should be spinning or dancing to it. Simple enough. Maybe I expect too much, but if you're going to be in world class you need to be doing all you can to reach the Box 6 and break new ground/set new standards.
  20. hhmm Well, from the moment I learned of WGI and figured out how the classes worked, A class has always meant "beginning". Open was "intermediate" and world was "advanced". There are some A groups who should be in Open, some Open groups that should be in A, and some world groups who should just go home. A class - it should be all about basics and presenting a logical production. Working with the basics (drop spins, double time, simple tosses, etc) the choreography should be based and come from these movements. Those more comfortable with the basics would/should explore more creative and inventive ways of doing things - which would set themselves up for a logical step up in to the Open class. Movement should be approached the same way. *i hope this makes sense* A class is not the place for esoteric show concepts. More often than not (and there are some exceptions), the performers are not at a level where they can easily achieve the perfomance aspects needed to pull off those "weird" or "intelligent" programs (the old Bishop Kearny shows of 1996 and 1997 come to my mind). I think the the A class saw it's best years in the mid to late 1990s and early 2000s. The programs that made WGI finals were logical, straight forward, and to the point. Entertaining and educational (for the students). I urge you (whoever is reading this) to go back and watch the A class champions from 1995-2000. And then pop in the medalists from 2007 and 2008. Completely different approaches. I think WGI ought to invest in educating the educators (instructors/designers) in what is appropriate/necessary for each class. I know I would be thrilled.
  21. ummm care to expound upon this?? I can't comment because I've no idea what you are referring to..........
  22. I'll take a stab at the Open and A classes just for fun: Scholastic A Milford (OH) Croatan Spanish River Byrnes Ind. A Elizabethtown Ind. O2 Scholastic Open Lake Central Kings Mechanicsburg Tarpon Springs Crestview Pope Ind. Open First Flight USF Wind Opus 10 (AMAZING!!) Just a few of my favorites... : )
  23. Doing well: Corona, Onyx, Centerville, O2, Black Watch, Shenendehowa, Trumbull I won't speculate on who might not do so well (ok... I will, but I'm keeping it to myself). I wish all the groups the best - no matter what kids, HAVE FUN!! : )
  24. I was VERY impressed with Trumbull High School. WOW - an amazingly talented group of youngsters. Sonnor- gorgeous silks (from what I could tell on the computer). I just LOVE Canadian color guard!!! : ) Black Watch - truly remarkable. I love how they utilized the benches. Clean it up and it will be fantastic in finals! :) Mechanicsburg High School - Now that's pagentry!! THE PROPS! Holy mackarel! WOW!!! God bless the parents who put all that together. Stunning opening flags.
  25. High school guard - 2 years Independent winter guard - 2 seasons Seasons teaching - 2001 - present.
