  1. Well, my advice would be to write something that is easily repeated for each song... simple spins, flutters, etc... maybe throw a toss in if they are capable. Is this for competition?? If you're expected to compete with this, then the band director needs to get a clue and realize it takes WAY more than 2 weeks to put together a good quality color guard show. I wish you all the best!
  2. Any news on how the color guard is shaping up?
  3. My choices are perhaps a bit "off the radar", but none the less these are some of my favorites: 1. 1997 Phantom Regiment - superb musicality... just amazing. 2. 1991 Cadets - the color guard set new standards 3. 1993 Star of Indiana 4. 1986 Blue Devils - wow! 5. 1998 Santa Clara Vanguard
  4. Is the band director at GReenwood not supportive of the guard or something? I know their fall program is quite remarkable, but I've not seen the indoor group(s).
  5. Jeff Wrokbelski (sp?) was at Franklin Central til 2003.... then he went to Warren Central and, in my opinion, they are the spitting image of Franklin Central.... kind of strange to me.... although I enjoy WC's shows a bit more... they aren't quite as repetitive as FC's show's always seemed to be.... BUT this is all my opinion. I look forward to the new Lawrence Central - sad to see Greg and Tod go, but hopefully they'll pull Greenwood up to WGI status... Indiana needs another world class color guard anyway : )
  6. I LOVE watching/listening to Northview High School's 1993 show - it is just fun! Does anyone know what the music/soundtrack is?? I really would love to find the piece with the lady talking about the sweater... hilarious! Thanks for any help given : )
  7. Santa Clara Vanguard wins Cavaliers place 2nd and win color guard and percussion Madison Scouts make the top 10 and place top 3 in brass Crown drops to 6th place Cadets finish 4th Colts make it back into finals Blue Stars color guard breaks into the top 3 Pioneer makes semifinals Finalist corps: SCV Cavaliers Blue Devils Cadets Glassmen Carolina Crown Phantom Regiment Blue Stars Madison Scouts Bluecoats Boston Crusaders Colts
  8. Cadets won color guard in 1989, 1991, 1993, 1996. They were second in color guard in 1990, 1992, 1994, 1995, 1997, 1998, and 1999.
  9. In terms of Blue Devils color guards, 1999 was spectacular in comparison to 2009... why they got a "perfect' score in 2009 is beyond me - you can clearly see drops and others "ticks" throughout the program. 1999 was MUCH better performed and was more entertaining, too.
  10. Just a few notable thoughts as I look back on the 2010 WGI Color Guard World Championships: - WGI program: my biggest disappointment of the entire event. I know the economy is under stress, but this years program was more like a tiny magazine. I would have GLADLY paid $20 for the larger version of past years. The omission of regional results was sad, and the general lack of anything interesting seemed like a total cop-out. - Mission Viejo High School (CA): Probably one of the most notable SO groups, Mission Viejo certainly has proven itself time and time again. 16 Scholastic Open finals appearances with their last medal (silver) in 1998. Twelve years later, how exciting it must be for the guard of 2010 to bring home the bronze medal!! - West Johnston High School (NC): Despite losing a member of the WJ color guard just a week ago, the performers gave an outstanding show and brought home the gold!! What a great way to close out their season. - Center Grove High School (IN): This may have well been my favorite Center Grove color guard show since 1999. 27 (the most of any scholastic world group) finals appearances. Just simply remarkable. - Blessed Sacrament (MA): 31 CONSECUTIVE finals appearances. WOW. - Sonnor (QUE) celebrated it's 25th anniversary with a return to the Independent World classification; there was a member representing each decade of the guards existence (the 1980s, 1990s, and 00s), and the props were replica's of the famed 1991 "Bringing in the 90s" show. - The O Foundation (sponsor of Onyx and O2) brought home two gold medals in one day. After 21 years, Onyx captured their first medal (gold no less!!) in the world class, with their sister guard, O2, capturing gold in IO. Congratulations!! - Pride of Cincinnati (OH): Perhaps the biggest crowd response ever to a color guard show, Pride brought flower power and pure fun to the WGI crowd. A true delight that will go down in history as one of the best shows ever. - Collins Hill High School (GA): winning the equipment caption in Scholastic A finals (with an impressive 19.3!), an unfortunate skipping soundtrack dragged the group out of a medalist postion to 5th place. HOWEVER, they gave the performance that, for me, was among best of the entire weekend. - Northern Academy (UK): a fun, campy production and strong equipment skills carried our friends "across the pond" into IO finals - well done!! - Opus X's whirlwhind drill and choreography (and GORGEOUS hand painted flags!) - James Logan's astounding performance bringing them their 11th gold medal! - Marian Catholic's funeral procession - simply stunning!! - Tarpon Springs High School's closing flag feature - WOW!!! - First Flight (NC): closing flag feature - amazing!
  11. A HUGE congrats to Onyx (and their open guard O2!) for finally getting a much deserved medal at WGI - and the gold no less! The top three IW guards were incredible and it was clear they were the TOP three. My heart goes out to Blessed Sacrament having been announced in 4th place, then being told they were 5th... I understand that people make mistakes (calculation errors or just typos) BUT I thought WGI could have handled it in a much better way then just kind of casually saying that SAC and NEI needed to switch spots. For the first time in years I thoroughly enjoyed Blessed Sacrament and those performers should be VERY proud of their efforts no matter if they were 4th or 5th. Lastly, it seemed to me that the scoring was rather low in the bottom tier of groups (both independent and scholastic). I thought Opus 10 would have racked up a higher number - same goes for Lawrence Central. Overall though WGI was great this year and I think I'll happily buy the DVDS this time.
  12. First off, Collins Hill got shafted out of a bronze medal....from what I understand one of their instructors turned in the wrong soundtrack, thus the ensuing music blip that caused the restart in finals.... Collins Hill was spectacular!!!! Those ladies should be very proud! Lincoln-Way was amazing and, in my opinion, should have gotten the gold. Little Elm did have a more emotional show though. Westerville was spectacular too!
  13. I'd still like to know what Fantasia's music is...and to those who think I may be joking, I am 100% serious. Thanks!
  14. I am IN LOVE with Fantasia's 2010 soundtrack. Does anyone know what it is?? Thanks!!
  15. I HIGHLY recommend Creative Costuming (www.creative-costuming.com). They have been superb on working within our budget and we still get gorgeous costumes with amazing fabrics- and the fit is incredible!!! Each performer looks stunning : )
  16. Pete- I just emailed you a photo
  17. Onyx wanted to make show changes before WGI, and with a program that does not have a pulse or meter the staff didn't want to just throw on changes - making changes with an ambient soundtrack takes more time than with other soundtracks. The guard is focused on WGI and decided to have a change camp, leaving Easter camp for cleaning. Onyx loves the Tri-State Circuit family and was pleased to be able to come to championships and present their program for the fans.

  19. I have 5 (five) 36" Excalibur sabres for sale immediately. $425 for the entire set ($85 if bought individually). These are in GREAT shape - barely used. Blades are taped white. Comes with hilt guards as provided by the manufacturer (these have never been used so they are in excellent shape). Please contact me if interested.
  20. Well, I think you're being a bit too harsh..... their most recent regional performance (Rancho Cucamonga I think?) was not their best.... BUT, that is hardly reason to form such a negative opinion. Go back and watch them from the earlier California regional - they were much better. MY opinion (for what it's worth) - Fantasia is coming back to WGI after a year... that is no guarantee that they will be either amazing or horrible. I like the show quite a bit and will be cheering them on no matter what. They have some spectacular moments and have lots of potential (both this year and in future seasons). I think we, as the color guard community, need to remember to supprt not only Fantasia, but all units regardless of how we may feel they are doing - the fact is that they are out there and making an effort and we all need to remember to be supportive and appreciative no matter what.
  21. Some IO groups I enjoy - Eklipse Usurpation O2 Pride of the Netherlands

  24. I do enjoy 1987 Sky Riders... BUT 1994 Cadets is the best one for me, because of the color guard - holy crap they were CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN and performed the heck out of that show. Probably one of the most underrated color guards in Cadets and DCI's history. For the time, Sky Riders was pretty freakin' awesome and I do enjoy going back to that show and watching it unfold - superb job.
  25. San Jose Raiders doesn't have a WGI unit anymore.... their last season was in 2007.
