  1. The correct spelling for the Chicago "Big Blue" is ROYAL-AIRS without the "e".
  2. Chris, My suggestion would be the Jim Ott arrangement of the Navy Hymn: Eternal Father. John Zimny has the chart.
  3. My thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery are with you Cozy. Your friend & fellow DCW staffer, Dave
  4. Well, I don't think there was actually 13 to 15 corps in the Belleville area back in the 50's or 60's, but Belleville did have four corps during those decades...The Black Knights, Millstadt Crusaders, and two all girl corps the Bellettes and Gabrielettes.
  5. While there was a rivalry between the Big Blue and the Green Machine, along with the Skokie Vanguard, Norwood and Black Knights, I'm not aware of any "long history" between these two corps. In fact, the Royal-Airs were only around for ten years. Now the Cavaliers and certain eastern corps back in the day is another story.
  6. Thanks to those who have responded. I'd still like to hear from the following corps: Archer-Epler Musketeers Blessed Sacrament Golden Knights Brooklyn United Mon Valley Express Park City Pride Prime Time Brass Selden Cadets
  7. Walt, Yes, I'd previously heard from Bill Pusey with a list Reilly's source music. Thanks!
  8. OK, thanks. How about the others? Anybody have some info on these corps? Deadline is this friday 4/11 beforte the DCW issue goes to press.
  9. I'm trying to locate the repertoires for the following corps for an article in the next issue of Drum Corps World. Amoskeag Sound Archer-Epler Blessed Sacrament Golden Knights Boston Crusaders Alumni Jackson Generals Park City Pride Brigadiers Alumni Brooklyn United North Coast Rock Any assistance would be appreciated!

  11. Ski, Check your PM. No negative message intended, just setting the record straight. My sincere best wishes to the Big Blue this season.
  12. While those "DCI Instructors" had been involved with DCI corps, they were also alums who marched in the Royal-Airs in the 60's. The RA show design and music from '03 to '05 was still old school drum corps with company fronts, color presentations and concert selections. The "beginning of the almost end for RA" had nothing to do with the drill or music.
  13. Metheny, Check your PM. Man in the Bath can be found on Amazon.com in the box set "Philip On Film", but it's expensive even for a used set.
  14. I recall on one occasion the corps accidentally left Jack behind after a contest in the midwest with no place to stay and no money. Ah, but Boo saved the day by putting Jack up for the night and then driving a few hundred miles out of his way to get him to the next venue where VK was performing! (one of many priceless stories from the "Boo Archives", not to be mistaken for the infamous "Boo Chronicles")
  15. Meramec Community College is looking for percussionists who would be interested in joining the Symphonic Band this semister. Rehearsals are every thursday from 7:15PM until 9:15PM in the band room at Meramec Community College Kirkwood, MO. Cost is $10.00. 16. I am very shocked and sad to hear this news. Harvey was a great guy and friend I've known for many years. My thoughts and prayers are with Lois and the entire Wingo family.
  17. I'm guessing the source music is from: Bourne Ultimatum - John Powell Into The Woods - Stephen Sondheim Pan's Labyrinth - Javier Navarete
  18. But, you will need a drum major...and brother Paul was (and is) a great DM!!!
  19. Happy birthday to my fellow DCW staffer.
  20. Dan, Just as an FYI, the music is not Praetorius, it's "in the style of" Michael Praetorius and actually comes from the Bob Margolis wind ensemble piece called Terpsichore. Crown played the 4th movement in their 1997 "Postcards from Britian".
  21. I just finished Not For the Faint of Heart and absolutely loved it! Jeremy Van Wert did an outstanding job of writing from the heart about his three years in the SCV tenor line. As a Vanguard fan since the 70's I found his book to be fascinating and would highly recommend it to anyone interested in drum corps.
