  1. You and your family are in my prayers, my friend. My most sincere condolences on a tremendous loss. Bruce
  2. I don't know it's a matter of "accepted" as much as it is "we do with what we have until recruitment picks up." In my day, Sun routinely put out around 40 horns. Sometime a few less - sometimes more. This year they only put 14-15 on the field, but this years iteration is basically an entirely new corps after being off the field last year (after the Class A win in 07), and relocating the corps back to Long Island. New ballgame, new recruitment efforts, new everything. Starting from scratch. Would they - and we of the alumni - have liked to see a larger horn line? Of course - who wouldn't - but "we do .... etc." All things considered, I think they acquitted themselves well.
  3. I might suggest that absent the old "tic" system - judging as a whole is entirely subjective. It would therefore be pretty much the same for all competitors, would it not?
  4. As in the Sunrisers Frank Dorritie in uniform - 1969 Barnum Festival, off the line.
  5. I have no idea what piece of music the Grenadiers are playing here, but I rather like it. Sounds like something from an early 60's detective movie.
  6. Ray - did you ever feel like the world was a tuxedo .... and you were a pair of brown shoes? (props to the great George Gobel, Carson Show, late 60's)
  7. All the videos have worked fine for me - even before reloading the MSJ one. FF2 latest flash player on XP Pro, home built.
  8. The old school color pre's still give me chills. You can take your "new style" drum corps and stick it where the sun doesn't shine - THIS is DRUM AND BUGLE CORPS!
  9. Don't think it's a browser issue - I got most - missed a few that didn't load. Activity bar seemed to indicate loading from source was off.
  10. So, what ... it's a plot to keep Grennie out of it? Different day - different judges - different scores. Affects all corps the same.
  11. I have the full 90 show on the Sunrisers Alumni site http://sunrisersalumni.org Go to the sound page and show mp3's.
  12. I use a few addons specific to programming that I absolutely have to have. A few are not compat with FF3, so ... 2 it is.
  13. Not an option - I don't care for FF3 at all. If it doesn't work ... oh well - it's uninstalled.
  14. Must be specific to FF3 - doesn't work at all for me or a buddy using FF2:(
  15. Finally one I know! It's Don Quixote de la Mancha! Yeah, baby!
  16. Yeah - and I was one of those guys who needed those X's and O's! Not to mention hearing another sop play the part so I knew what it sounded like. Read music? What the hell is that?
  17. This is simply a reflection of the times - in which the current generations have been brought up with this idea of "superior" groups in schools. It's nonsense and does nothing but give them the idea they are better than others. I would think adults were past that crap.
  18. Now THAT sounds like the sort of drum corps I knew and loved. All I hear is "you can't do that suff anymore - times have changed!" Well Bravo Sierra to that.
  19. Ahh... you asked a question to which you didn't know the answer. You GOT the answer. Now you want to contradict the answer? Why did you bother?
  20. I think there are a few issues at work here. First - many parade organizers are simply ignorant of drum and bugle corps. They know bands from colleges and high schools - drum corps are something they have little experience with. Second - as has been pointed out - many (most?) corps use parades as a way to make money for operating expenses. If they looked at them as a recruiting tool they might have a better outcome. Yes - I realize it's not cheap to send a corps to a parade, but there are usually some local parades that members can get to on their own without the expense of buses, etc. The exposure a corps gets from parades within their recruiting area would seem to me to be a no-brainer. High schoolers and older people who play instruments may be totally unaware of the corps and upon seeing and hearing them might want to get involved. A good showing and appearance would be invaluable to many corps, imo. Personally, I used to love parades, and the existence of "parade corps" would seem to show that many others do too. Who doesn't remember the look on peoples faces when a drum corps gets near them and they're thinking "oh - just another band", then they get their faces blown off. My first exposure to drum corps was via parades and I knew right away I wanted to be part of that. Just sayin ...
