  1. Father Ryan is yet again a breath of fresh air!!! What a wonderful show they have constructed. I hope they make it to Dayton soon!!!
  2. Looks like the 35th anniversary of WGI is going to be a GREAT one!! Total number of guards is more than last year and stands at 284. Of note, Tarpon Springs just added in SW and Centerville in SO.
  3. Francis Howell North and Marcus have both been officially bumped to Open...Congrats!!!
  4. You would think Francis Howell North is going to be bumped to SO. I can't even remember the last time a SA group popped an 88 at the 2nd regional of the year....maybe Pope back in 2000? Marcus might also get bumped....and I love that show!
  5. Just noticed that SW is up to 16 now, and Aimachi was added to IW...Can't wait to see them in Dayton!!
  6. Convalescence is proud to announce its 2012 Cast!!!
  7. If you can't get an answer you might want to book somewhere in the middle....like Springboro (closer to Dayton) or West Chester (closer to Cincy) West Chester/Liberty Twp is where the IKEA and all the outlets are at. ..and Touchdown Jesus 'was' just north of that...god rest his burned out soul. I'd probably avoid booking in Middletown or Franklin though it's probably the most center between the cities. You could fly into Dayton or Cincinnati/NKY and either would probably meet your needs, though I think Dayton might be cheaper. But if you fly into Cincy, you'll get to experience 'The Cut in the Hill' on your way into Ohio...which is pretty awesome or dangerous--depending on how you look at it. The Cincy airport is actually in Northern Kentucky (as there was no room to build in Cincy) but it's only about an hour from Dayton....and about 30 minutes from West Chester and 45 from Springboro. If you fly into Dayton...Springboro is about 30 min and West Chester about 45 min.
  8. 9. Fantasia 2003 ...and it was a lot more than 8 drops; it was well into the teens. The cartwheel sequence alone was 5 drops (only 1 person caught.) That said, the video is edited VERY well to mask a lot of the mistakes. You had to be there live to really see them explode. But, it was a great show...and they did finish in 3rd with the bronze.
  10. Thanks SO much...you don't know how long I've been trying to figure that out! Now, I just need to find a video. One of the most ingenious SA shows I've seen. This music Patriots used in 1998 was Heroes Symphony by Philip Glass. you can hear it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66jTYrEjs3A It has to be one of the best IO shows ever, IMO they would have also been in the top 10 in IW that year had they gotten bumped. Yes, they did have foam mannequin heads that rolled down a shingled roof. I was lucky enough to see this show multiple times in '98. I remember seeing them at the Dayton regional, and at the end of the show the guard starts to rearrange parts of their floor (throwing papers, rolling mannequin heads, pull the tarp in different directions) and at the very end, a girl in the guard pulls a drawer out from a chest that's been on the floor and used as one of their props and she flips it upright so the audience can see inside it, and inside the drawer is an exact replica of how their floor (with the props and chaos they caused at the end etc.) IT WAS AMAZING! I'm pretty show their show was entitled "Life is but a Dream" God, I miss the Patriots...and shows like that!
  11. OH MY..Will, I have been looking for that show forever, do you think you could make me a copy, pretty please?!? I've also been trying years to figure out WHO did the SARAH CYNTHIA SYLVIA STOUT WOULD NOT TAKE THE GARBAGE OUT show back in the late 90's or early 2000's. I think it was a group from Michigan. They were an SA group and performed at the Mideast Regional I think at Miamisburg high school. They dumped piles and piles of garbage onto the floor during their show. It was amazing...and I'd love to know who did that show and if someone has a video!!!
  12. Ah yes….the joys of the newly formed Daytonnati Metroplex! Dayton and Cincinnati have now grown into each other so much that we’re viewed as one cohesive metro area; much like DFW or the Twin Cities. For those who have to perform at the Cintas Center, it is a beautiful facility, but like what others have discussed, it’s a 45 minute trip from Dayton…and that’s if you don’t have any hiccups. There’s construction all along I-75 from Dayton to Cincy, and if you have the terrible luck of hitting both cities rush hours, you’re looking at a minimum of 90 minutes or more in travel time and a half a tank of gas. I think WGI was trying to do the right thing, but I think this has backfire written all over it. But I guess we wait and see
  13. For those interested in auditioning; a 'how to' video has been put together that references the terminology that sebastienne uses when teaching. For example, everyone knows what a 45 toss, however sebastienne will not call it that, he will call it the Hotdog in a Hallway toss. Watch and learn!
  14. Once again Convalescence will be sharing audition videos, video of clinics and other assorted videos throughout the season. Here's one of our 2012 auditions.
  15. No worries...I think emotions are high on finals night! And...given a different judge, the Phantomettes very well could have finished 1st last night! Their lower body and movement I think was sometimes overlooked by certain adjudicators. The work of KC Perkins, KC Michel and others is very evident, and there is such respect and adoration between the staff and the girls...which accounts for more than the eye can see. I hope this entire staff comes back next season. ..if so, we could see Phantom with the guard trophy come finals night in very near future!
  16. Do you exactly have a point? My post at least relates to the topic, which shows the cumulative guard placements for DCI Finals week (and where PR placed) for those who were interested. If you don't care about such things, you can keep your snarky comments to yourself.
  17. Just for fun..I calculated the scores from the last 3 days for guard caption. Here's how it shook out: 1. Blue Devils 2. Cadets 3. Cavaliers 4. Phantom Regiment 5. Carolina Crown 6. SCV
  18. In finals performance, Regiment's guard finished tonight in 3rd place: .1 out of 2nd place and only .4 behind the Blue Devils. I'd say they know what they are doing...not to mention they had one of the best guards they've ever had this season. Congrats!!
  19. Phantom was solidly in 2nd for both GE and Visual. Bluecoats Achilles is going to be their guard.
  20. I hear it's the addition of one male colorguard member who goes by the name of 'Sassy Gay Friend' You can see him on the site not to be mentioned by typing in: juliet and sassy gay friend.
  21. The school that I worked at last fall has opened their doors to multiple corps, and during WGI week lets numerous (sometimes more than 10 groups) stay and use their various facilities. Dayton area schools have been VERY receptive to WGI, but unfortunately, an irresponsible percussion group almost blew that for everyone this year in my district. It took the band director and boosters to clean up their various messes to make it alright again with the principal and higher ups. So, just remember to treat your host schools with respect! I know Phantom to be an extremely classy group, so I hope they find housing very soon. I think any school that hosts them would be very impressed with how the handle themselves on and off the field! Although, not ideal..If they don't mind staying in Dayton (2 hours away) I'm sure there are many schools that would host them...
  22. Audition Information and Video for those interested in joining the 2012 Convalescence Winterguard!
  23. Jamey Thompson also wrote the drill in 2005 for Rhapsody (3rd place), 2006 Faust (2nd Place), and 2007 On Air (4th Place). I think the last thing they need to do is switch up the drill writer again. In fact, I believe Jamey is among the elite drill writers of the activity. I also believe he played a part in bringing in some of the new faces to the visual/guard staff (and the Juliets have been amazing, even winning the caption numerous times this season)... So be careful what you wish for.
