  1. you said "describe alumni corps to non-corps person" not "define alumni corps to drum corps people" drum & bugle corps are marching music groups that use brass and percussion instruments only which primarily originated from military roots not scholastic affiliations, "alumni" drum corps are mostly made of people who used to compete in drum & bugle corps, alumni corps do not compete as an entire unit in field shows, you can be any age in an alumni corps, people do this activity together for the comaradery and the enjoyment of playing together and for an audience thats my best effort
  2. MD might be further north than LA but no other state had a drum corps carrying confed flags and re-enacting the civil war, anyway, I will be DJing the afterparty again so place your requests, looking forward to it and singing Dixie at the end again hopefully
  3. Kanstuls run dry, especially sops unless you want to pay for a brand new one but I found a good amount of other Dynasty horns, if you guys need some lemme know a soprano G sure sounds different from a trumpet, Zarfoss said the Hanover horns are strong
  4. Send Us Your Tired, Your Poor, Your Huddled Masses of G buglers we've had to buy up bugles beyond what we can afford due to increasing enrollment I think we'll have 60 brass +/- next show, including some of our friends from Madison. Not tired or poor or huddled at all in truth. interesting post... I wondered myself exactly when the top 20 made that switch
  5. yes, more excuse to hang out with corps friends wish the big screen could be accompanied by big sound can I bring my own sound reinforcement and make it loud?
  6. I was in Bucs in 82 before Lancers in 83, I dont try hard to remember that year DCA vids from the 80s sure would be great
  7. we've got a contra and a mello, I think Brad & Tracy know about it, maybe not
  8. the funny thing is how high those snares are being worn with slings, not harnesses, ow?
  9. if you can't make it for March try April, right? I hope to visit on 4/13 after H'burg Forum. I checked out your extended schedule http://fusioncorenj.homestead.com/Tentativ...08_Schedule.pdf
  10. Yes, I will go. I enjoy it. Different formats will keep it fresh. Maybe an all 80s broadcast or all 90s will happen, who knows? My only complaint is that it is never loud enough! Not by a long shot. Its a good time with corps friends. I like to see who shows up. I like more recent performances better, post 70s particularly as the video and audio quality improved.
  11. What have we cats still got? A very active corps that is growing. We have some Madison sops coming all the way out to play with us, you should stop and check it out this Sunday at the Knights of Columbus on Glenside and say hello. I like being involved in all levels and types of drum corps. It doesnt make sense to me to get stuck in one place and tell the rest to go away. I like talking to and knowing the youngest and the oldest people in the activity. I do miss the days of prelims and finals outside of the World Championships and more regional competition. I like the original post in this forum. I grew up knowing Senior Corps & DCA, I cant imagine what it would be like growing up someplace without it. I wouldnt know the story at all behind it. It does seem to be on an upward swing for many of the reasons which were listed. I hope that continues. I like DCI Div.II, I hope it doesnt shrink further. It is very interesting to watch what is happening in the all-age, mini corps, alum corps circuit. I love it that DCA allows musicians to keep playing in so many ways and doesnt look for ways to exclude but rather to include through I&E and other open door events. When people ask if I still play I can say: YES!
  12. thanks for posting, it was just what I needed! after a grueling day in the trenches of drumming and program coordinating, I justified wasting time online by finding this much needed comic relief, thanks again! a tenor drummer
  13. ha, that was fun next rules to be passed allowing glass to be shattered en masse by hornlines sounding the resonant frequency of the glass
  14. maybe the super bowl will end in a tie you know, both teams are so good and more winners is more happy or sudden death overtime at DCI finals? throw down southern college band style and the winner of Super Bowl XXXVVVIII(?) is... (extended silence- I HATE when they do that!) its a tie! all that blood and sweat and nobody wins, or they both win or whatever, now go home feeling lack of closure on the season anyway how could they score the Giants defense over the Patriots defense, thats bull if it wasnt for that the Patriots would have won, that official must have a kid in the Giants
  15. Stop that pigeon!http://stopthatpigeon.ytmnd.com/ wanna talk about showing your age?
  16. sounds like an extreme time too bad we gotta be at this thing here http://www.drumcorpsplanet.com/forums/inde...08843&st=10
  17. oh cool, maybe I can make for that. Nobody in Philly cares much about the Super Bowl anyway. hey, you spelled Hurricanes - Hurriacnes, that doesnt sound good
  18. It will be great, the fans will appreciate it. When a fan wants to have that feeling of past remembered or even a time-machine effect, M&M enhances that greatly. It will be a compliment to the ability of the current members. So allow me to play devil's advocate here and state the sentiment you are trying to disprove... Sky march? pfft! yeah right.
  19. I would like to add that Chris Kilian of Fusion Core and past Bushwacker DM is writing and teaching the brass ensemble music for us. I can not confirm that we are now forming a mini corps though I know there are many who would like to see that happen. Walt
  20. Im with that guy up there maybe the nice meeyun could explain that to us less knowing fans, oh yeeah! I think its funny bcz its never been an issue in corps, other substances have
  21. nope I still wanna see enraged 2nd place corps Contras throw down at retreat well, if there is a retreat
