Come to a camp or a day, you won't regret it. We are off on a great start to the season and would love to have you, a friend or a family member join us.

  5. DCK had yet another wonderful and hugely productive camp this past weekend and are well on our way to having another great year. The only thing that we need is YOU! or if you're invovled in another corps and know people from aroudn the louisville/Cincinatti area, send them our way!
  6. Yeah..and them making finals every year of their existance doesn't mean a thing? Tell me another corps that did that...Sorry dude, but you've just insulted a huge number of people by saying that. I know and am friends with people hat marched Star or have been part of the organization in a different way, so i know first hand how hard they worked, so yes, they deserve recognition for what they did.
  7. Camp tomorrow! Come on! You knooooow you want to come!
  8. I'm a music ed major at UofL in my (done in a month!) sophomore year, so that obviously takes up most of my time. I clean kennels at a vets office about five miles from my house. It's nice getting to deal with the animals because most of the time they don't talk back. I also am a substitute lunch lady thanks to my mom, who is a kitchen manager at an elementary school. tasty combination here, eh? I am on visual staff with my alma mater's high school during the marching band season and I teach bagpipes there and at the middle school for a good part of the year. I get occasional gigs for bagpipes, though few and far between. That's what I do. I'm still trying to figure out how, but it works.

  13. Derby City Knights are going class A this year.
  14. Oh, how I wish! The football teams has an indoor, heated/air conditioned field turf practice arena. So the band's just happy they don't have to march through mud every practice-and the new field's lighted, so practices won't have to stop early after daylight savings time kicks in because nobody can see whats in front of them anymore. And the fact that a national TV show put forth the effort to make sure the band had safe practice conditions instead of the actual university...But, that's neither here nor there...
  15. I marched with Patrick and his dad last year (ran into troubles this past year...) and they are both remarkable people. They truly deserve the new home they got! A quick note on UofL Band's "old" practice field (the current one, since the university liked to move the band around every few years): it was a swamp. As in, they insisted on watering it every day-even if it had been raining for 110 days straight, they'd still water. We don't know why. They just did. And of course, the field had very poor drainage and when it rained there would be standing water on the field and we'd have to cancel practice (no need for anybody to twist an ankle or something on a soaked field, right?). So the new field actually has much better drainage and has water fountains and a building where insturments can be stored instead of having to carry school horns all the way across campus (a 15-20 minute walk) from the School of Music. ABC did wonderful things and for that, everybody in the band and school of music thanks them, for finally giving the band a field that they can call home.
  16. I know this is from my high school marching band days, but oh well. My freshman year (2002) band camp got so hot that year. One day during the first week (of two), my friend's shoes were melting to the pavement in the morning-around 10:00 AM, if I recall correctly. I live in Floyds Knobs, IN, which is roughly 7 miles northwest of Louisville, KY. Later during lunch break, our visual guy cooking an egg in a frying pan on the pavement and ate it while the winds and drumline were practicing in the band room. Yeah, good times.
  17. Snap. I can't wait to heaer the rest of the show, this makes me excited. Lots of mello notes, huzzah!
