  1. Today I was EPCOT backstage (wearing my corps jacket) talking with Mulan when a show tech informed me he marched baritone for southwind from 93-97 (i think those were the years).
  2. I start back next week (having been working at Tokyo Disneyland for the last 8 months) so I'll probably be working when you come down. I know a bunch of the guys who do toy soldiers (a lot are UCF kids) so I'm sure we have a bunch of mutual friends.
  3. Being a cast member means getting free into the park (for all Disney parks except the Tokyo Disneyland Resort ((because it's not completly owned by Disney but that's another story))) so I go into the parks pretty often, often wearing my corps jacket, and often getting comments from guests. So, you may not see a lot of corps merchandise but you'll often run into people who know about drum corps.
  4. It was a great experience being on that field! Sorry I never got to meet anyone else after the performance but with the rain starting and it being my last night in Japan I had many corpsmates I needed to say goodbye to. Hope everyone enjoyed all the corps!
  5. I'm a current employee at WDW and I've marched two years with DCI (with one year left) and one year in DCJ. I know a lot of people in "entertainment" (that's my department) who have marched drum corps. I learned a show on the castle stage and the little boy in tights marched Crown 15 year before I did! Mickey may not have marched, but some of his taller and royal friends have...
  6. Probably not what you meant, but a couple of times in 05 we would do blind circle drill in during vis block. Not always pretty...
  7. You use to be able to purchase Crown's old purple uni's at the CrownStore.com but I think they want you to purchase the entire fleet of uniforms instead of individual ones.
  8. I teach my old HS marching band, so for friday night games i usually wear it over my staff shirt (if it's cold). It's also my usual go-to jacket if it's cold (central Florida usually don't get cold enough for a heavy coat). Because it's my usual jacket, however, I often wear it to work (Walt Disney World Resort). I've had both guests in the park stop me on my days off to ask me about my marching (and tell me about theirs), as well as fellow cast members ask me about my marching. My two trainers both marched (Magic and Southwind), a man stopped me in the Disney MGM Studios caffeteria and told me his brother marched '75 Madison Scouts, and I found out a certain little boy in green tights that I was learning a show on the castle stage with marched Carolina Crown 15 years before i did!
  9. Drum Corps Preview at Kawasaki Stadium tomorrow (Sunday the 22). 5 Corps will be performing starting at 2:00, stadium open at 1:30. Sorry I don't know more information! It's my first show in Japan!
  10. and i'm in Japan, it's the only way to keep in touch with DCI
  11. i went to a few camps a couple of years ago, and the staff repeated over and over "it's not a bicyle step, it's a re-articulation of the foot." on the "and" count the knee breaks the plane of motion by bending while keeping the toes on the grond and lifting the heel. on the "one" count the heel hits the ground and the toes are as high as possible. on the "one and" count the right foot should be perpendicular to the ground at the ankle of the left foot (with bent knee). and on "two" the right heel hits the ground. the interesting part was the backwards technique, where the initiation is the same as forward, the left food breaks the place of motion by bending the knee and keeping the toes on the ground while lifting the heel. on "one" the foot is placed behind you. on "one and" the right foot does the same thing as going forward, perpendicular to the ground, at the left ankle, knee bent. the staff said that if you took a picture on the "and" count, you shouldn't be able to tell if they are moving forward or backwards. sorry to any cmm, or fmm if this is completly wrong, it's only what i remember from a few years ago, and only going to a few camps (then marching two years in another corps with a different technique).
  12. Contra. This is actually the first time i've ever played anything besides a Bb horn.
  13. Hey! Sorry, i'm new to message boards, but i wanted to say that i've been reading DCP for a while now and just recently joined. I've marched two years in DCI and i'm currently living and working in Japan (Shin-Urayasu, Chiba) and i joined the Yokohama Inspires! I will be at most of the shows you listed. It's nice to know there are other people out there in this activity. Go DCJ!
