Love love love Crown. But that Top 5 nut is tough to crack.

All I can think of '88 is that the judges must've been in a cold sweat with the interesting way the scores/placements were handled! I truly believe judges assign scores to a corps in relation to the others performing at a given show. Truly, each performance should be judged using the criteria on the back of the sheets........and in relation to no one! However, they'd have a hard time at critique when Joe Brass Instructor asks "why'd we come in below (insert corps name)???".

I like Mr. Beddis' enthusiasm! A needed shot in the arm at CC.

I believe the criteria for voting was for a 15 MINUTE WINDOW of voting after the last corps' performance of the night. Since 99% of us fans are not at that show, we'd have to get word somehow that the last corps was finished, and that the voting period had begun. Or just estimate the shows' end by stepoff times. Either way, I'm guessing these votes were MOSTLY from fans in the stands.

Did I miss something? Boston hasn't missed a year of marching in like...forever.

In my final semester of college, I had to take a Communications Law class. Very recently attorneys were beginning to advertise on TV (this was '89). The law professor told us to never use an attorney that advertised on TV. After all these years of seeing the kind that do run ads, I get her point. The good ones don't need to.

That would only be a problem if Crown stopped adding anything GE related for the next 5 weeks. The season is a fluid process...

My brain must've gone dead, because I hadn't even thought about the corps members being able to vote! (Guess it's because like thousands, I used to be standing on the field for retreat following the last corps' performance!) I was truly thinking fans voting only.

"but the award is for favorites after all, and not best." Which is why the thread title doesn't have the word BEST in it. I'm not so sure there's a "love affair" with Crown, but maybe fans have enjoyed watching the evolution of a corps that toppled out of the Top 12, re-evaluated it's methods and personnel, and pushed forward....with admirable results. That the aggregate maybe likes the Michael Klesch charts. That Crown gets a little better and more entertaining as they go. Could be one of those reasons.

When a corps is at their home show(s), they typically go on last. And they typically do the encore (since the stands would naturally be packed with lots of their own fans). Going on last does not = doing the encore, as a rule.
