  1. Thanks!! :P Yes, it was his first year. I wanted him to wait until the summer between his Jr. & Sr. year (next year) because I thought he was a little young but he said he could handle it and he did! He has learned SO much and has matured so much it almost makes me sad :( Southwind has been GREAT!!
  2. I just noticed that there are no scores for the Blue Devils.....and......I'm thinking that they probably scored higher than Southwind...... :( Well.....SW had a GREAT year and I know my son had a great time.....which is what it is all about anyway :P
  3. OK.....what am I missing??? When I look at the scores on DCI...it shows them as 17th.....I'm confused
  4. OK...I know this will seem stupid to all ya'll but remember I'm a new mom here.......Is it the top 17 that goes to Semi-Finals.....point being.......is Southwind going to Semi-Finals this year???? My son will be SO EXCITED if that is true but I don't want to text him if I'm wrong.....
  5. Here..here..to Capital Regiment In case you haven't heard, the Southwind cook trailer died in San Antonio, dead for the season (and likely forever). The frame cracked and the vehicle is not road-worthy. This event could have easily ended the season for Southwind but it didn't thanks to Rick Bays, Capital Regiment's director, who graciously allowed Southwind to borrow Cap Reg's food truck for the rest of the season. Not only that, but he is driving it himself. As stated by Mike Loeffelholz, Director for Southwind "This is an act of chivalry that I'm not sure we can ever repay. To be blunt, Rick Bays has saved our season." I don't think it could be said any better...... From all of us Southwind parents.....THANK YOU RICK & CAPITAL REGIMENT
  6. You and your wife will be in my constant prayers.......
  7. Because they're in TEXAS.. Of course, I'm from Texas and waws raised to bow down to the Cowboys :)
  8. Wow...ya'll are the GREATEST!! I am printing all of your ideas off for him and it looks like we'll be doing some traveling. Like one of you said, even if he loves Miami in Ohio, he needs at least 3 options or so. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your input. You know....if Mom says it then.... but if it comes from you guys then he's all Thanks again and keep giving me input and I'll keep printing :P
  9. OH MY GOSH!!! Are you kidding me I have been sitting here waiting for scores Jeez.....we started band camp at the HS this week and those 50+ kids must have caused me some brain damage
  10. I TOTALLY agree.....Southwind has gone up and down and I'm dying to see where they end up tonight. My only concern is that they may be tired but I would imagine they all are B)
  11. I realize that it is an hour earlier down in Texas but does anyone have any idea as to what time they might be done? I can't imagine how long it will take to run that many Corps through :sshh:
  12. They are actually on his list but they are soooo far away :( I'm going to let him go check it out though. He loves to fish, snow ski, dive, etc. so I know that he would fall in love with Colorado......which is why I get sad :(
  13. Penguin, you are correct, the young man could have simply left the field and saluted the flag as he walked by. That night however, he chose to stand his ground. He chose to honor the traditions of the flag code and he chose to honor and pay respect to the traditions of the drum corps activity itself. He was making a statement and I for one salute him for it. And people wouldn't be talking about it if he hadn't stayed........all I can say about this young man is "Wow! I am impressed!"
  14. They don't but we didn't know that much about what to look for when we went there. He had heard of it and I figured the more campuses he visited, the better idea of what he liked and disliked he would get. It's really strange at Purdue, they have a great marching band but are not "allowed" to have a music department It was evidently part of the agreement with the guy who donated all the bucks for the school years and years ago.
  15. :) WOW...that's the professor that he met with and really liked (Mr. Olcott). They have been exchanging emails, etc. ever since he met with him and had his lesson. Mr. Olcott has offered to meet him on weekends, etc. to give more lessons, etc. That's so funny that you mentioned him by name! I had no idea that he was "well known"
  16. WOW!!! You guys are GREAT!! You asked for information that I really should have thought to include So, here is some more information: He is a Junior He plays the Trumpet We live just outside Louisville, KY He has looked at the following schools: Purdue University (Indiana) - REALLY hated the campus; he thought it was too big, too "busy" Vanderbilt (Tennessee) - He LOVED the campus, liked the "residential" feel of the campus, but didn't feel all that "comfortable" with the professors University of Louisville (Kentucky) - Didn't care for the campus and it's too close to home for his taste Bellarmine (Kentucky) - Too small and too close to home Miami University (Indiana) - LOVED it!! He loved the look and feel of the campus; said it was "beautiful and close to fishing", met with the main trumpet instructor and had a lesson with him and really liked him. Is planning to take more lessons from him when he returns from DCI. As far as his working hard......he is a straight 'A' student, participates in Marching, Concert, Jazz, and Pep band at his school as well as the Louisville Youth Band and takes private trumpet and piano lessons so he is very use to having a busy schedule. Hope this information helps and again, thanks SO much to all of you :D As I said, he really likes Miami but I want to make sure he looks at lots of options. College is an exciting time and he's worked so hard, I want him to have all the options available to him....even though Mom is VERY sad about the thought of him leaving home :( Thanks again, 'Mom'
  17. Since so many of you seem to be Music Majors, I was just wondering if any of you can recommend good schools? My son is looking at Miami University in Ohio and really likes it but we want to look at some more. He likes programs with the Education classes in the Music Department (some have all the Education classes through the Education Department), he MUST have a Marching Band and he really doesn't like the really large campuses. Any info would be greatly appreciated! :P
