  1. The only problem with Santa Clarita is the weather... CAN BE WAY TOO HOT! But you are right, its a great venue. Mt Sac would be great, Citrus College would work, as would Long Beach City College. My personal favorite would be Cal State Fullerton, awesome stadium that never gets used. About 5,000 concert side seats in a bowl.
  2. I apologize to one and all for my post "2005 DCI World Championships Scores". Yes, there was a bit of a joke in there, but my plan was to update ith the scores the second they came in via cell phone from a friend in the stands. Well, seems the Drum Corps Gods got the last laugh. No sooner than I made the post, I lost internet and phone services here until 10:15 pm tonight. I was just able to log on. So, apologies to those in agony. Karma is a #####, I learned the hard way. But, seeing as this is somewhat of a tradition for me to do this once a year (and seeing as most of you almost always fall for it), don't be surprised to see it again in '06! b**bs Congrats to all the kids on a fine season!
  3. That's total BS blown way out of proportion. Traffic is bad , but no worse then any other metro area in the U.S. I used to leave for work at 3:00 in the afternoon to go to downtown L.A., 38 miles away, and would make it there in 45 minutes, traveling through Pasadena to get to work. It won't be bad at all.

  5. Guilty as charged! Born and raised in Fresno and Bakersfield.
  6. Colinga! Heh.... that would be cool, home of the "Horned Toads"! On the field, from Colinga California, performing their 2007 program "Earthquake"... DCI is proud to present, the Horned Toads... b**bs
  7. And BTW guys, the personal attacks are getting a tad bit out of hand, lets tone it down a bit, please.... thanks.
  8. Hey Mike, Not arguing with WHAT they are playing, but ho it is being arranged and presented on the field. Also, to clarify, none of this is a knock on the kids. For godsakes, we love 'em all, and they ARE the reason we still and always will support the activity. My argument is with the show design, not the execution.
  9. Talk about flame bait! And I thought I was bad... c'mon dude, don't hold back, tell us how you really feel?? b**bs
  10. DCI and the Pasadena folks have been talking for quite sometime. IN fact, we confirmed earlier in the year that a commiittee from DCI had met with Pasadena city officials in January. But the DCI brain trust more than likely chose the Rose Bowl for its vast marketing opportunities, despite the obvious flaws with the stadium as a drum corps venue. We have heard that there could be some promotional tie in's with the Tournment of Roses, including more appearances in the 2007 parade by one or two DCI corps. DCI is VERY excited about this and I think they should be. They have two years to sell the show, which I think will do very well. Also, as far as funding, hearing the DCI might take this two years to help create a fundraising effort to help offset costs for some of the smaller groups, but that is just a rumor.
  11. No, it doesn't need to quit, but it does need to stop being self serving before it begins to lose its fan base all over again. Remember, in order for drum corps to continue it needs to draw the fans in. When it started losing the fans in the mid to late 90's, the activity had to push towards more general affect, and what do you know, the fans started returning. Now that the crowds are back, the corps are getting back to the "push the envelope" phase, which is just a little too rich for most people to get. Listen, I love seeing corps go super fast with incredible drill, but I seem to remember wanting a little entertainmentment to go along with the 'wow' factor. And i walked out of the theater last night to a lot of people saying the same thing, "It was the same thing over and over again, its getting kinda boring". When the corps all start to sound the same, and the fans are moaning more then they are clapping (reference every moment someone used a mic for narration), then something is wrong. My opinion, e are doing some things right, but coming dangerously close to doing a lot of things wrong.
  12. Believe it or not, I had NOTHING to do with this, though I have pitched the idea for several years. I almost got them to do something last year for TOC, but that fell through. Since Uncle Dan is gone, its a bit easy to impose your will upon the acting manaing editors and make story suggestions... They could rehab this story for Sunday morning. I can make some calls to their producers and see what I can find out.
  13. See, we can do something right everyonce in a while {Proud member of CBS Netork News!}... probably the first thing we've done right since Uncle Dan left (did I just say that???) Very nice package... I am going to send his producer a quick email saying thanks...
  14. Won't happen, Regal does not want to give up the theaters for their Friday night movie audiences...
  15. Just my honest opinion... but I disagree. Maybe its a matter of taste or perspective... which I believe is one of the great things about this board is that we can all voice our opinions. This is not my favorite SCV show, that is for certain. I still believe that if you put RCM in the opener slot, the show works much better. That said, I have seen shows that have scored in the 90's that were worse then this one. My point, or one of many, is that I, as a fan, was not enetertained by any other corps above SCV other than Regiment and possibly the Cadets. There were a whole lot of notes, a lot of fast marching, and some faintly recognizeable, crowd friendly charts. But nothing that would give me the urge to stand up and applaud. But my biggest complaint is that now it seems to be acceptable for a show to be dirty visually and in some cases musically, just becuase the demand on the performer is higher. There were several instances in the top 5 shows were forms weren't quite lining up because performers legs weren't quite long enoug to get them there in time. Lines weren't dressed, or there were multiple scatter drills to get performers from one place to another (and I do love a good scatter drill, just not 15 in one show). Musically (horn chart wise), everything is "run here, run there, balls out chord, splat splat splat, run here run there". Challenging, #### yes! But as a fan, I am really starting to get bored with it. Give me more goosebumps, more emotion, more 'get up out of my seat and sacrafice my first born onto the field' moments. Honestly, after several years of reconnecting with the fans, I think we are starting to see a return to the 'artsy-fartsy play fast and make it look difficult' drum corps that caused a decline in audiences for several years. Ok, getting off of my soap box and waiting to get flamed...
  16. So what you are saying is, in order for the drill to be championship calibur, the corps has to spemd the eitire ten minutes running from set to set, have at least three scatter drills, and look so fast and furious that it oinly gives the impression that it could be cleaned but in all reality it can't? See, here is my problem with the activity now days, we put ay too much emphasis on making shows too difficult. Somewhere, someone has got the impression that in order to be good, your show has to be run at 220 bpm, have music that only slightly resembles the original score, a zillion 32nd note runs, with various splats, gacks, odd body angles (ala Star 1993) etc... Remember the days when drum corps used to play melodies? Remember when you used to walk away from a drum corps show humming more than a few of the shows? I walked away from the theater last night with only two shows in my head... Regiment and SCV. I have no idea what BD played... but I do remember "Yoswsa yowsa yowsa". That is a shame consdering Downing is probably the greatest composer in DCI history. Cavies were solid, but nothing in their show really stuck with me. Madison was good, but pretty much all we were watching was Carmen. I could go on and on... but I'll save it. Yes there is something missing in SCV's show this year, I'll be the first one to tell you that, but honestly the show is much better than an 87ish score. Just my opinion..
  17. After watching Vanguard give it there all last night, I sat thinking to myself, "are the judges in the same universe"? That show has cleaned up considerably in the past 6 weeks, and what shows is that the kids took a sub par product and turned it into a top six show. There is no way this show deserves ninth. Period!
  18. Oh no he didn't... RYAN! Step away from the keyboard... take a deep breath, just relax... everything will be fine...
  19. Madison is a lock for next year, nothing will change that. Nothing has been set in stone yet for 2007, other than a couple of sites have been set aside as possibilities for finals. One is the Rose Bowl, the other I don't know. DCI has had a delegation that has traveled to Pasadena and northern California for meetings with the various facilities.
  20. Maybe they forget about us becuase they were afraid of us... as they should have been... lol
  21. The truth hurts... even if it comes from the bite of a tick. b**bs
  22. Here's an idea, who about we not feed the trolls and close this thread!~
  23. You know, this year might afford me that opportunity as I have a noral job with normal hours now (and weekends off!!!). It's only been 16 years since I have played a baritone, and you really don't want me touching a pair of drum sticks!
