  1. My son was with Carolina Crown in 1999 and Cadets for the next 4 years on soprano/trumpet, aging out in 2003. I do not belive he was a Cadet simply for the Cadet's philosophy. He liked their marchong/playing style, had a few friends/instuctors that were Cadets and he wanted to win. I am not sure a 16 year old thinks about the philosophy that much.
  2. My son was lead soprano/trumpet with Carolina Crown in 1999 and Cadets in 2000-2003. They always had pretty good tour food at both corps usually with a hot meal at dinner and lots of cereal, sandwiches, pasta, and fruit at breakfast & lunch. Snack was usually the day's leftovers with a few extra snack goodies like hot dogs, cookies, pizza, etc. mixed in. Sometimes a visiting corps parent would pitch in a snack or two for the entire corps. I do not know how any corps could afford fast food thses days, but I do remember in HS/college being able to eat a complete meal at McDonalds in the late 60's and early 70's for less than a dollar.
  3. Not any more. The Cadets take a win at Indy over The Cavies.
  4. Thanks for the review. GO CADETS!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. Great review. I agree that the Cavies music is very forgettable. Just like elevator music.
  6. Perhaps a bit too harsh and from a first time poster. I smell a Hoppy hating rat.
  7. I saw them last night in Sevieville and I do not remember a DM salute. It probably came in under the radar as I was watching the warmup.
  8. The Cadets should be more on the move this year (no more park and blow). I talked to my son (Spizler to DCP fans) last night during his dinner break at Cadets spring training. They have the opener on the field and it has 60 pages of drill compared to 90 for the entire show the last 2 years. He said the 2003 show is very tough compared to the last 2 years.
  9. Ben Harloff (bald original Blast cast trumpet/flugelhorn soloist) was a soprano tech with Carolina Crown in 1999. Ray Linkous (original Blast cast tuba/conductor) was Carolina Crown Brass Caption Head in 1999. Both were great instructors for my son (soprano) that summer and both left Carolina Crown to join the original cast of Blast in London after the 1999 DCI season. We saw them on stage twice while on vacation in London in March 2000 a week before the Blast video/DVD was taped.
