From inside Phantom Regiment Headquarters

09 will be 21 years after 89. (89, 90, 91, 92, 93, 94, 95, 96, 97, 98) - ten years (99, 00, 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08) - ten years (09) EDIT: well, it depends on perspective i guess. you could count 89 as a year or you could only count "anniversaries." 89-09 is 21 years, but it would be the 20th anniversary of 89. either way... new world shouldn't be touched -

... you know what i mean. classical is really all they do. and not that that's a bad thing, i'm just saying i'd like to hear something outside of that sphere, just for the sake of hearing it. and that's two-for-two for people telling me they would rather hear hotel california from crown than phantom... what is that about? that song would sound so much cooler from regiment than from anybody else. -

i want to see phantom step out of their safety zone, repertoire-wise. i've ALWAYS wanted to hear them play hotel california in particular. -
So about that carolina crown...

Corps with a current identity crisis
Kekkles replied to cadetzoid's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
actually, i've been thinking the same thing, but wasn't quite sure what words i wanted to use... but that's actually pretty darn close. they're like the elvis of the 70's: cheesy, awkward, and clearly trying to get back to the elvis of the 50's and 60's. and it's still a good show, it's just... not the same... and it carries this sense of desperation, both from the performer and the fans. -
Which brass instrument should I (attempt to) learn?
Kekkles replied to davidsampson's topic in Brass Forum
haha, well yeah, there's that if i were you, i REALLY wouldn't let weight of an instrument even be a factor. you can complain about weight once you've run around with a contra or a bottom bass drum. until then, suck it up -

baritone/euphonium easiest to learn, period -
oh snap i imagine there was some sort of hell raised because of that comment...

on the shower thing: i HAVE heard a story where some kids went out into a field and showered in the sprinklers. it was an all-girl shower group though, not mixed, and if i'm remembering right this happened many years ago. -
If you had to choose one show to define drum corps
Kekkles replied to drepsed's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
yeah yeah, i know all about how some things can appreciate in value, you have to have "financial savvy," and so on, and so forth. for every guy that makes a couple million on this or that decades-old vehicle, there are a couple thousand who have a broken car, period. you can win the lottery and make more money than you know what to do with, but that doesn't make it a good investment -

Who should be Crown's guard caption head?
Kekkles replied to mh31496's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
there's no need to attack him on his opinion... being an opinion. "i doubt anyone is interested in him right now" is clearly an opinion by virtue of the fact that he started it with "i doubt." making the statement doesn't make your opinion seem more right. -
If you had to choose one show to define drum corps
Kekkles replied to drepsed's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
there isn't really ONE show that could do the job of exemplifying great drum corps while hooking them into the activity. you could pick anything from a decently sized list and get the job done. my immediate reaction after reading the first post was to say cavies 04 or phantom 03. phantom 08/07/06/05/03 cavaliers 08/06/04 bluecoats 08/07/06 carolina crown 08/07 cadets 05/00 those are just the obvious ones, many people would be fine picking phantom 96-89, vanguard since forever, and a whole slew of blue devils shows. -
first question: how many football fields are there in china and japan? my guess is: fewer in both than in any one state.
-
look... the op had goofy-### english. i'm sorry if i offended the dcp community at large by telling him so. as far as my signature is concerned: i haven't heard ONE good story about the blue devils, as far as corps-to-corps interaction, since the 90s. not one. not. one. it's all bad. which wouldn't be a big deal, except that i've never heard of anybody saying they had a bad experience with some vanguard members, or cadet members, or anybody else. it's all focused on the blue devils, aside from the finals 08 retreat fiasco. and all the while, blue devils fans/alumni/administration are constantly talking about how classy they are. on topic: if star were still here today, i estimate they would have about four titles. i get a sneaking suspicion they would go unrewarded because of their show design, unless they had a year where they were blatantly better than everyone else, which i imagine would happen every three or four years.

adam would be a horrible fit at crown. EDIT: is crown even looking for a new guard caption head? -
rofl... it's not about making me feel better, it's the fact that it was wrong.
