Here's your First Amendment lesson: It prohibits Congress from enacting a law to curtail free speech. DCP is a private entity, and therefore not subject to the 1st Amendment and can institute whatever rules it wishes. If you wish to create a no-holds-barred drum corps-oriented website, you are free to do so - and free to enact your own terms of service. Personally, I have no problem with ad hominem attacks - they only demonstrate the poster's inability to win an argument through fact and logic, and are used as a last resort when backed into the corner. If I were moderator, I'd let people make complete ###es of themselves for the world to see... but I'm not :) And that's probably a good thing :P

I really enjoyed the show, and on a scale of personal preference and enjoyment - way better than 9th! BUT - as they closed the show with their re-keyed 1987 opener - I felt empty. '87 Vanguard gave (and still give) me goosebumps with Russian Christmas Music (and the closer, too), but was just... nice. Not "luscious", not "exhilarating", just... nice.

While this, for the most part, is true - what about general effect? I'll tell you the "effect" the Cadets show had on our Cinecast audience - a mixture of laughter and "what the ####?" during the vocals (was that way for all amped vocals), and utter silence for a solid 5 (and pushing 10) seconds after completion of the performance. The amount of applause didn't even approach "polite" levels. :P

I'd heard complaints about Arrowhead's acoustics - but I thought they were fine.

2/3 to 3/4 full in Warner Robins GA... And definitely appreciated not having to make the 90-minute trek to Atlanta :) Video was decent - with aforementioned contrast issues. Audio - little low, but volume was raised after many requests by audience members. Sound quality - definitely could have been better. Worth the $15, and if not in Madison - I'll be at the Galleria in Centerville watching quarterfinals NEXT year, as well. Everyone else has just about hammered on all the production aspects - and in agreement with most assessments. And I'll say it again - narration and/or amplified vocals need to go <**> ... Pits were little loud overall, but don't know if it was due to mic placement or what...

Since the option wasn't there: All amplified vocals irritate me equally!!!! <**>

My feelings on this (and several other "initiatives" of recent years) are simply put: "The band-ification of drum corps continues..." <**>

Congrats, Darren! I chose your thread to vent on ^0^ Great show all-around, and nice review! But I'm trying to figure out what was recognizable about the Cadets show? The confused (and sometimes outright annoyed looks) in the audience lead me to believe otherwise... I really had no idea how I would feel about amplification (lightning rod, I know), and ended up liking it - until the Cadets show... Year in, and year out - I adore what the Cadets put out on the field (second only to my personal favorites - Madison Scouts), but it seemed like a combination of "now it's legal, so let's overuse it" with the amps, and a throwback to some of really esoteric productions of the 90's where corps were trying to be "weirder" than everyone else. Just my point of view, for what's it worth - and sometimes, that ain't much :P

And that is one my greatest drum corps memories... I only wish we'd had camcorders or something to record it... Goosebumps two inches high, I swear... b**bs

Best I can tell, these should be somewhere in the 40-45 yard line vicinity... Will not be able to go to Finals, and probably Semis (thank goodness I get to see Quarters :) ), so they are up for sale for $50 and $25, respectively.
