  1. MIKE, GET WELL SOON !! The Corps activity needs more hardworking, dedicated people like your self. Its too bad that we are a long ways from the Twin Cities or I would be visiting as well. Warmest Regards, Dik and Katie Buelow
  2. I appreciate the support from "up north". Looking forward to the first drill camp over the 7th & 8th of March. The Texas Tribute show will be very interesting. I never knew the history of the Texas Territory and how it settled. Hopefully, the audience will catch on to it as well. The recordings of rehearsals are sounding good...sure helps to have an increase in Brass players. Still looking for more guard personnel, but who isn't these days. Talk at you next month.....GO MBI !!! Dik
  3. Hey, Thanks for the "shout out".......... I am looking forward to working with this talented group. Reminds me alot of the early days with MBI again. See you in September ( isn't that a tune???) in Rochester.... MBI rocks ! Dik
  4. John, Our thoughts and prayers are with you !! The Drum Corps activity loses another one of its finest. Dik & Katie
  5. OK "Girl".........you better be on your toes, your former Regal instructor is judging the show!! Dik B
  6. You don't have a phone, email and or address for him ??? He might have some fun with us here. We do have the talent. Dik
  7. I will be judging the two DCA shows in the Atlanta area on the 16th and 17th, However you will have Katie doing the two Wisconsin DCA shows. See, you can't get rid of us just yet.......I wish all the Minnesota Corps a competitive and enjoyable season. Dik ( the only contrabass player from Minnesota living in Florida )
  8. Patrick's is as close to a Drum Corps museum you can find in Minnesota! I have personal experience with this establishment and I have even been in it sober. Many local Drum Corps stories are rattling around in those 4 walls. Can you believe, that St Peter, Minnesota had 3 Corps at one time. A Senior Corps, a Junior Corps and of course the feeder Corps. All in a small Midwestern farming community....bravo for the tradition !
  9. Good evening, Florida Brass has 3 - valve / rotor Contras that we are going to put on Ebay. Any interest, contact me. Dik Buelow - director@floridabrass.org
  10. Good Evening, Florida Brass has 3 valve / rotor Contrabasses that we are going to put on Ebay. All of our Contras are 2 valve now. Any interested, please contact me -- director@floridabrass.org Richard ( Dik ) Buelow
  11. Excellent.......Congratulations to all of you in the Sun Devils! I was very impressed with the effort and dedication of the Corps during practice a couple of weeks ago. This activity takes a special type of person to participate and contribute to the organization. Go Devils...!
  12. Some of my best friends are "broken-down old Contra hacks.....myself included !! Keep the faith brother....age and experience will win out eventually.
  13. Pat, Perhaps you should join an Alumni Corps...oh, that's right, there are none in Minnesota !!! I happen to know one..........come on down!!!and yes, they still play hockey in Florida. Dik
  14. Dennis was certainly a student of the activity! I had the pleasure in working with him as an adjudicator in the Midwest. He was always available to help with any questions and just pleasant to be around ! Dik Buelow
  15. Sunday, the 27th, Florida Brass will honor Roy Grant upon his retirement, at the Corps rehearsal. Rehearsal is at the American Legion Post in Lakeland. Directions are on the website - www.floridabrass.org A brief dinner will follow rehearsal along with social time with Roy and members. Many of us know how difficult it is to start up a Drum Corps anywhere in country, plus maintain its longevity. We once again applaude the Sun Devils efforts and wish them well with the accreditation for DCA status.
  16. Joel, A top quality group will get top quality results !! You have been the backbone of the MBI percussion line...and to think I used to call you guys drummers. Of course, that was back when you were little..you were little once, I think?? GO BLUE !
  17. As in the best tradition of the Senior Corps, BEER usually worked well !! Dik
  18. Eddie, The "Florida" type combined tune would be great....we did this alot in Minnesota with the Governaires and other Senior Corps. If there was a show/performance that all 3 Corps could be at here in Florida ,a gathering of G bugles could make a little noise as well as fun!! Dik
  19. All the bloggers are doing their early season predictions and the Sun Devils are not even on their "radar" screen. Time to do some Senior Corps "hinny kicking" folks. Of course, I wish you all the best.....PLAY HARD, PLAY LOUD !!! Dik
  20. Florida Brass is announcing the retirement of Roy Grant, the founder of the Florida Brass Alumni Drum and Bugle Corps. Roy has devoted 60+ years to the Drum Corps activity in both Junior and Senior organizations. He has been a stalwart performer, Board member, recruiter and anything else that was needed to help the Corps grow over the four years of operation. The past year as Corps Director, I found Roy to be relentless in offering help in any capacity. Our membership has grown over 25% with his assistance. Ill health kept Roy from performing in parades, but was always present for the standstill shows. Many readers of DCP may know Roy from the past and present, a reply to say good luck in his retirement would be most appropriate !! He is always welcome to sit-in at our rehearsals and of course some wisdom or suggestions in furthering the Corps effort will be considered. It will be hard to find another member to fill his spot with the commitment level this gentlemen brought to activity. Dik Buelow - Corps Director
  21. You are alaways welcome to sit in or play a gig with us. We have some northern visitors coming in for the St Pattys day gig in Delray Beach..Last year it was very well attended and great weather. "CONTRAS RULE"
  22. We may not be a competing Drum & Bugle Corps, but we do have fun !! Saturday Night we performed in the Krewe of Sant'Yago Knight parade in Ybor City....what a "blast" it was. This was the closest event to the Mardi Gras celebration. Wall to wall people that appreciated our presence in the parade, especially when we are stopped and give them a little "Senior Corps" power. I have asked to be considered for next year, as our Corps had as much fun as the crowd. Yes, we are alive and well in Florida.
  23. WHAT AN INTENSE REHEARSAL YESTERDAY ! Percussion line is really coming together as well as the cleaning of the Brass charts. It is so exciting to see the new members coming in with so much experience. A couple more parades have been added to the schedule will give us more visibility in the Central Florida region. Our exhibitions at the recent marching bands shows have helped our recruiting efforts tremendously! Your right Sue...what are you waiting for? Come and sit-in or just listen. Richard (Dik) Buelow - Corps Director Florida Brass
