  1. Cellphones are overrated. Back in 1995, I was 8 years old and I knew everyone's phone number from memory. Now, I couldn't tell you my mom's home number if my life depended on it. The Cavaliers, once again, have things right.
  2. Sorry, I'm with dciguy1987 "Gettin' them digits" is a lot healthier than arguing about the length of tubing on a euphonium.
  3. I can kind of see where you're coming from, I used to feel the same way in high school.
  4. In addition to the video I posted before
  5. Not at all. Bach's music would make for a very exciting show. For example... There's a lot of piano music in general (tons!) that's gone virtually ignored by drum corps. They could easily be fully orchestrated into pieces for drum corps shows. I can hear this in my head working quite well. Maybe if I have the opportunity to write a show for a marching band (which I highly doubt, it's not exactly on a list of priorities for me, though it is good money) I'll try it out. Grow up, kid. Raining on my parade/thread will do nothing for the world. Mods please edit this post as it detracts from the rational and engaging discussion I am attempting to give life to in this thread. Thank you.
  6. Goldberg Variations and Mass in B minor need to be played by a corps as soon as possible.
  7. Guys at Cavies are reading this kid's posts I'm sure. I bet they can't wait for him to show up...
  8. Cavies normally have some of the best music in the top 12. I enjoy them and SCV very much.
  9. An assortment of people who marched between 1960 and 2001...
  10. I know a lot of people that marched G bugles. I've yet to have one of them tell me that they liked them.
  11. Of course drum corps teaches you some values/virtues. But it's also a fierce lesson in debauchery and poorly spent funds which could be allocated towards something much more practical. Of course I'm talking about marching for 5+ years, getting an AA and working at Starbucks for 20 years. Now before people get on the Crying Train, that is merely an example of histrionics. I'm just stating my opinion. No posturing or pretension here, just stating an opinion and some facts. At least a couple of people flat out agreed with the truth in my statement. I can personally say that I didn't find marching in a drum corps musically or artistically fulfilling, so of course I'm going to not see it as a priority as opposed to other things. I got some nice abs that lasted for about 2 weeks though, who can complain about awesome abs? I sure can't.
  12. School is much more important. But its your own job to stack up your life priorities, not ours. I'm really not a fan of this "school will always be there" mentality. I don't see that as worth it in anyway. I guess I just look at approaching things in the most efficient and practical way possible. If you're planning on being a musician, whatever field that may be, unless it's your life goal to a big marching band guy I don't see how spending a huge chunk of your time in a marching band is going to make you better in your field. Wouldn't time be better suited doing things related to what you're doing. Not to mention drum corps is just so SO expensive now, as is school. I just see school and other things as more important as far as personal funding than $3000+ to travel around for 3-4 months and not make any money. Honestly, marching in a drum corps isn't going to get you a job. Being afraid of responsibility and not settling short and long term goals in life is only going to hurt you. Every person I know who puts drum corps as a priority over school is, without a doubt, an absolute bum. I'm only talking from personal experience. They either go to some 3rd rate junior college, or just don't care about things adults should be concerned about and that's just pathetic. I call them Drum Corps Jocks. So yeah, take that year off if you need to. I can't believe anyone could discourage someone from taking lessons so they can become a better musician. Absolutely ridiculous. Playing fortississimo and running around a football field in a funny suit is not going to get you ahead in life. It's a hobby, and a great experience. Hell, I wish everyone could march for at least one year, but not to the detriment of their future.
  13. Goldberg & Schmuyle Pretty tricky excerpt for trumpet there.. Pictures is a great piece, go Ravel B-)
