  1. As soon as I read the title of the thread, I thought '76 Madison Scouts!
  2. Drum Corps-Valved, front belled brass instruments, percussion and guard Marching Band-Valved and unvalved brass instruments, WOODWIND instruments, percussion, and guard
  3. Ahh, yes, the Argonne Rebels. From what I've heard, in the 60's, they had the best horns in Drum Corps.
  4. Ahh...yes, the "Glory Home Swing". Never did understand that.
  5. Oh, no...I LOVE the Madison Scouts. One my all time favorites; but I've noticed there is a bit of disagreement about the Scouts. I've heard from some that they're emphasis on loud, brassy Latin shows is "played" and that they don't fit in with the modern drum corps status quo. Now, why the Troopers haven't received the same stigma is beyond me; but that's just what I've heard. I personally adore the Scouts and the Troopers.
  6. Has anyone seen the Troopers show this year? I know they're pretty close to breaking the top 12, but do you think it's possible?
  7. For your dislike of scrubs, you are off my awesome list... but then again, you don't dig So You Think You Can Dance and American Idol, so I suppose all is forgiven.
  8. I've always found Phantom's sound to be very clean and pristine. I don't think the music they play, usually done by symphony orchestras, is at all smudged or ruined. I mean, look no further than New World Symphony in '89; and that was with G-Horns that had a much brassier, harsh sound. And yeah, I love Danny Boy and the Wheel as much as the next guy. Never got a chance to see it, of course, since they disbanded 5 years before I was born.
  9. Well, in the late 70's, Phantom became quite competitive and were only a tenth of a point behind Santa Clara. Anyway, it was probably the greatest era in drum corps history; And the Troopers would make finals! I REALLY wish I could have seen that.
  10. Just read the scores this morning! A tenth of a point! WOW! Wish I was at that show. Regiment and SCV must be on fire.
  11. Question: I know the 27th Lancers are beloved now, though they're long gone. Was that always the case or is that just the required posthumous lovin'?
  12. Oh, yeah! Phantom and Troop. I forgot about them. Yeah, they're both great and everyone seems to love 'em. I wish I was alive during the 70's and 80's when The Vanguard and Phantom would go head to head rather often for that 1st place title.
  13. Right now, drum corps finds itself in a time of unrest and disagreement. You need not look any further than our boards to see that the community is split nearly in half. Some of this is coming from the direction of certain corps have taken. No one seems to be able to agree on anything these corps do; but then there are the ones that everyone loves. The ones that people can get behind no matter what place their in or how good their chances are at the world title. Which corps, past or present, have you noticed seem to NEVER get any flack at all. From what I've seen, it's the Santa Clara Vanguard. Old school fans, new school fans; seasoned vets, brand new rookies...everyone loves the Vanguard. I've seldom seen a discouraging word thrown their way.
  14. I, for one, cannot wait until Night Beat in Charlotte! We're going on a marching band trip. I hope to see some of you there.
  15. OP...the guy in your pic looks like someone that was in an off, off, off, WAY off B'way production of Godspell.
  16. Sounds like they're gonna be the shocker corps this year. (Get your mind out of the gutter, people.)
  17. I think it's become an accepted concept among the marching music community and it gives the creative minds with the organization more creative leeway.
