  1. Are there any places that list music played by corps by song type? or music style? I know there's corpsreps.org but they don't list by style. Anyone know of something like this?
  2. It's the am and I haven't read through the 170 pages of posts so forgive if this has already been brought up. First: I was sitting in the second deck on on the side 1 35, so I had a pretty good vantage point. Can anybody justify the scores last night? For one, brass 1-4 were each neatly .2 away from each other, didn't bother checking the rest of the scores, maybe they're all like that(the brass scores that is) Also, Crown's show was visually dirty. Not like, it's dirty it's just not perfect yet, dirty as in, the feet weren't in time, and there multiple people sticking out of coverdowns etc. It was almost to the uncomfortable point. And they're scores shoot up to a 92.6? HNC has been killing people in Vis and Vis ge for a few weeks now, and all of a sudden they're 4th? Not that they had a perfect show either, but were certainly a lot cleaner than Crown (and so was SCV). Also, BD was unbelievably well put together. The show is just about pristine. A few bumps here and there but, good night, the horns sound close to flawless and the drill is unreasonably clean for right now. However, the show is boring. I watched last night as a lot of people stood up at the end of the show, golf clapped and sat back down. Don't get me wrong, I love CCrown's show this year, love it. But it was not even close to the level of the other top 3 in terms of cleanliness. Not to mention, HNC's guard has been on fire this year, beating Crown's guard by .6 at mos shows. Now they're .1 down?
  3. Right, they can't arrange to play in domes all season, so don't have finals in one.
  4. Finals for an outdoor activity being held indoors is just ridiculous anyway. Practice all summer outside, and then the last 1-3 performances (depending on placement of course) will be indoors. Come on DCI....
  5. Was there a good deal of synth being used to beef up BD's low brass sound? It sure sounded like it. and if so, doesn't anybody else have a problem with that? With guys running all over the field exerting themselves at their maximum level, and they can't quiiiiite get that low sound, so we'll just have a guy on the side push a button to compensate. Maybe they didn't, which if they didn't, then ok. That's just what it sounded like listening through not great speakers. Only BD could come up with a way to sit and play in chairs on the field and have everyone think it's GE. That's brilliant planning and scheming on their part. Did The Cavaliers really have someone CLIMB the hornline, or was I making that up? HNC's show is just down right brutal. I feel like it might be the most difficult show in the top 4 (ducks in case of brick-throwing)......A lot of exposed stuff esp. in the trumpets, and the drill is outrageous for the most part. I think it's programmed a tooon better than last year, just gotta clean and get those drum scores up and I think it's a winner, don't really feel that from the other top 3. Crown's music is infectious, especially Puck, and their hornline is clean and thick. Not sure if it has the extra little bit, but it's definitely a great show to watch. The programming is top notch as well, although 2 years ago, a lot of the same body that that they're doing meant horses....now it means some crazy far-away place....that's the only qualm I have about the show.....Congrats Crown on coming from the cellar to challenge the big boys!
  6. 1.Blue Devils 2.The Cavaliers 3.Holy Name Cadets 4.Carolina Crown 5.Santa Clara Vanguard 6.Bluecoats 7.Boston Crusaders 8.Blue Stars 9.Phantom Regiment 10.Blue Knights 11.Glassmen 12.Troopers I think that Holy Name will be 3rd simply because they just started cleaning....literally.....just started cleaning drill......so once they clean up, the GE should boost as well as he visual scores, assuming percussion can make a leap, they're a lock for at least second, and maybe Crown will actually pass The Cavaliers by the end, like the show, just don't know if it has enough juice to get it an entire season of climbing scores....
  7. Ooooh..... clever! There are also a lot of music changes and tweaks that are made throughout the year to fit drill.....like cutting people off parts, or changing voicing because the drill isn't an arc like when the hornline learned it, or it just can't be cleaned etc. So there are concessions made for the drill musically. But yeah, if you're talking rewrites, it's going to be drill most likely. It's just easier to learn new dots than a new piece of music....like everyone else in the thread has said.
  8. I would also like to point at that HNC has had their fair share of sickness. It hasn't been 30 members out at once, but the stomach bug and other illnesses have made their way around the corps. Everyone deals with it, and Crown will eventually rebound. One week of people being sick isn't going to hurt Crown or help HNC.
  9. 1. Holy Name 2. Blue Devils 3. Santa Clara 4. Carolina Crown 5. Cavaliers 6. Phantom ....no idea about after that, haven't seen any of the other corps. Basis- Blue Devils always start out hot, and recently have tailed off at the end of the season to be overtaken, excluding the last two years for the most part (excluding finals night last year) I think the judges will similarly get tired of The Cavaliers not playing music. The show this year just seems hokey. Santa Clara seems like they're on fire. Crown's show is pretty good, and they are executing at a high level, but it seems like their show is done. I could be wrong, they could have some tricks up their sleeve, but I kinda see this as a Bluecoats '07 year for them(if you remember 'coats almost won brass that year) Oh.... and PDUNCAN is a little bi--h
  10. Remember that one of the captions not added in yet to the music caption is BRASS. On another note, I went and listened to part of what they are using for their show (The Cavaliers) and it's John Adams' On the Great Divide....now, I haven't heard the show, so I don't know how much of that is in the show, but I had trouble listening to it for the entire duration of the piece. It is a minimalist piece, and for drum corps that translates to a snoozefest( Unless you take a look at SCV 99 with Philip Glass's The Canyon).
  11. Bluecoats also beat Crown and Cadets at the first show that year (07). Then they got off the buses before leaving, walked just past where The Cadets were parked and jumped up and down, yelling and screaming, "we beat The Cadets!!" while The Cadets were still sitting outside eating. That was the last time that happened, and the next night were down to the Cadets by almost a point, and stayed that way. I say that to say, While this is an historic event for Crown, and I love to see it, I love to see the competition, I agree with most people here that a) this could very well be meaningless in the scope of 09 drum corps b) whether it is meaningless or not, I hope Crown enjoys their probably well-earned victory with class, like an organization of championship caliber should.
  12. Wait. So you're determining George's motivations by what YOU did when YOU marched? Have you been to a rehearsal of theirs? You assume George is arrogant that he wants to win and just uses the corps as a vehicle to do it(as per the winning ego points at winter staff meetings)? No matter what the cost? Seriously. You're ignorant. Stop making generalizations about people and organizations you have no idea about. Better yet, stop making opinions based on old "war stories". No one pushes The Cadets, they push themselves. George doesn't beat the kids into the ground, they do it themselves. The corps, just like every other outstanding corps if full of members that drive and push themselves without any help or nudging from the staff. You will never, NEVER(ok, absolutes don't work but its rare), hear a complaint by a Cadet about rehearsing.
  13. What if the members want the extra rehearsal time? Is that not their best possible experience. I have been with a few corps and around several others, and they certainly took care of us-if health and safety is what you are after. The last two years, have you listened to any of The Cadets' shows? It is all about experience. Sure they do things just like every other corps to improve and move up in rankings, but the atmosphere and lessons learned are what The Cadets are about. You remove all doubt of ignorance by your post. And as far as The Cadets being frustrated, sure they are. But what about Crown since they started? Won a championship? no? So are the kids in Crown leaving every year with resentment towards the activity and with less of an experience than the top tier corps that generally expected to be contenders? Obviously no, they're not. They find themselves in an unfamiliar exciting place this year, that doesn't mean the corps behind them are wishing every night they go to bed that they had marched somewhere else. The activity ultimately isn't about winning or losing. We keep score to foster the competitive spirit and the character traits that competition brings with it.
