  1. The temperature/humidity level is going to be about the same as last year - maybe 2 or 3 degrees cooler, but HOT and HUMID. But, it WILL, be about 5 to 10 degrees cooler than most of the shows we have had in the Midwest this season! So it shouldn't make the Midwesteners stay away......other regions coming up here maybe not so favorable. I agree with the 'Finals level' caliber of the stadium, but I can't imagine Finals being held somewhere where it can be overbearingly HOT/HUMID and could be rained out. On the other hand, once the Minnesota Vikings new stadium is completed (Hopefully with a retractable roof!) I think Minneapolis might be in the running for a Final if DCI ever goes back to a rotating schedule. .....as for next weeks DCI event, HOT and HUMID - my prediction and I HOPE I am WRONG!!!
  2. .........hummmmm. I only go to local shows until DCI Minnesota and Finals in Indy, but Middleton, Michigan City and Cedarburg were all packed. I know Whitewater tomorrow night has some seats available because it is a bigger venue, but Salem is pretty much full (and I dont think Phantom would ever do something to HURT Paddock Lake/Salem schools as the show was started to HELP them) and I haven't heard about Lisle but it usually sells out too. The Colts show in Dubuque is a hugely popular local draw. City is fully behind both Colt corps, so moving the venue (for one year) to Davenport will probably bring down the attendance as the locals probably won't follow to the replacement venue. There's enough Geneseo Knights fans out there that Metamora's show should be a sell out with no problem. We just have a lot of fans in the Midwest that go to a lot of shows, so Phantom Regiment's having a TOC show (IMO) does little to change the attendance at the other local shows. Even moving the show to DeKalb (watch out for the football players) or further south to the ISU stadium wouldn't ruin the attendance at the hometown shows (again IMO).
  3. Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't a majority (at least a vocal majority) state that the TOC thing would fail to catch on? Why would a huge stAdium be booked for a failure? Anyway, there should be some moticable changes to this years SoS/ TOC event. More entrances and a larger merchandise area. But, alas, the same stadium. I'm hoping the weather finally cools off. We NEED rain, but not that day! Should be a great show that helps all of us compare our favorite corps on the same field of play.
  4. I've seen the Troopers in person at 3 shows. IMO the problem is rather simple - pit, horns and guard aren't playing together or off each other. Tonight the pit was way ahead of the horns and the guard a touch behind. Again, IMO, the percussion isn't backing any section of the show. They march around solo and go back to marching. All of it is pretty good but disjointed. And the guard is almost invisible. With just a couple of tweeks I think the show would be much better. Starting with following the lead of the DM. ....sorry, it's just how I see it.....
  5. It was 100+ all the way up from Milwaukee just now. WOW! Hotel room is almost COLD. Not heading out to the high school until I have to. If they haven't watered the grass on the field it's gonna be a prickly yellow dried out mess! ....I hope the turf is artificial tonight, can't remember from last year. I feel bad for the corps - but for those of us in the stands too. Hoping I can bring in a frozen bottle of water!!!
  6. Prayers sent! I am sure they will have it fixed and you will be getting sun and heat stroke with the rest of us in the stands that face the setting sun.....where's my sunscreen...... Heading up in about 3 hours!
  7. The city holds a great parade the next day too. Major Madison Scouts fans in that city. I believe the Mad Men have a special concert they do for the people at the end of the parade. This is from the parade event page: "This year we are excited to confirm that the Madison Scouts, Pioneer and Spirit of Atlanta marching bands will all participatein the parade, and the Madison Scouts will put on a rousing concert in the park after the parade." I always stay overnight to see this parade. It's one of my favorites!
  8. Maybe not ALL the difference but maybe the deciding factor for 2nd, 3rd and 4th place on Finals night.
  9. Really ? EVERY single person on DCP believes Phantom has Peaked and the season is over? Read much? Been around drum corps very long? Probably not. What is 'your' excuse for SCV? Peaked earlier this week? Each time the corps add something new the scores 'peak'. Don't worry, your Devils are still the 'favorites' OR will they peak next week.......? CC & C are knocking on the door of 1st place too. Crown also looked good tonight (and, yes, they weren't in your show).
  10. Blessings and Much Happiness tonight Phantom Regiment! ....and SUTA!!!
  11. Congrats Phantom! Looks like another WIN! From a tweet: "#Dci world 61.05 mandarins. 63.25 pc. 64.4 academy. 74.4 SCV. 75.8 phantom"
  12. Madison REALLY beat Cavies! Tomorrow night is going to be epic! WOW!
  13. Let's be real! Cavies need a LOT of work this year. Hoping for the best come Indy. 2nd place this show. Anyway, it's gonna be close between SOA and Madison IMO with Blue Star in the mix too. Glassmen and Troopers filing out the bottom.
  14. It IS Potter announcing isn't it! Cool! IMO the Troopers visual needs a lot of work, especially spacing. Unless they are missing a lot of members. I agree with the previous posters about the arranging. It feels very dark and cold to me. But keep going Troop, I know you will be just fine.
  15. I'm thinking this weekend - Carolina Crown. ....and I will be at the show in Michigan City when they do it!
  16. I've tried this year, and quite frankly I get shredded almost every time I do. Wow, the people who think you are a 'hater' because you post that you think the pit is too loud or the spacing is bad, come out of nowhere to bash YOU! I post using my iPhone and sometimes the software puts in words I didnt type and leaves in words I might have spelled wrong. Who cares! Who cares? The spelling police on DCP. Guess that makes them feel better about my posts? I've got 3 shows coming up in the next week and I dont plan on posting anything until I get home OR in rebuttal to something posted that DIDN'T happen......... Even the tweeters have quit......imagine that........ As you can see in the individual threads about corps, there is a lot of perceived negativity on DCP and it is stopping a lot of good, civil discussions - IMHO.
  17. ....there's also the camp 'experience' that has both younger kids wanting to gain camp atmosphere experience (and learn some music) and the older kids that are actually trying out for a spot on the corps. As for being cut from the corps tryouts, it can happen up to the day the corps packs the buses and leaves for tour - even during tour. That's just the way it is some years. .....anyone here sense a poster who might have been cut this year and is trying to 'get back at' the corps that cut him/her........??????????? I seem to see a few of these hanging around here this season!
  18. Take one thing into consideration, the most negative topics have been started by people new to DCP. For whatever reason, this year we have drawn in a lot of people who feel they need to be highly critical and extremely negative. Its not like responding to a newspaper article, one line and out, no, we seem to be drawing people who feel the need to take the time to sign up for a login screen name and then blast away. WHY!!!!! Maybe the other drum corps related sites have thrown these people out - so they are coming here? I WOULD NOT ALLOW THESE PEOPLE WITH 20 OR LESS POSTS TO DECIDE FOR YOU WHETHER MARCHING IS WORTH IT OR NOT. I work with a corps and I see a TON of very happy drum corps people (marchers/staff/volunteers). Drum Corps is alive and well. It is NOT going anywhere for a few years. AND YOU SHOULD GIVE IT A TRY!!!!!
  19. The 'kite' that looks blue on FN is actually a very nice shade of light purple, but it sure doesn't show up that way! Each show you will see a bit has changed and a bit more makes sense in the grand scheme of things..........
  20. A tweet with tonight's scores: Santa Clara CA #dci #drumcorps Phantom-74.7 SCVanguard-73.0 Boston-70.7 PacificCrest-60.2 Open: BlueDevilsB-68.8 SCVCadets-68.6 Congrats, again, Phantom Regiment!!! /via DCI
  21. Is that still just a proposal or has it been approved to be built? Which NFL team is going to be relocated there? I know it WON'T be my Vikings as our new stadium was just approved and will be finished in just a couple of years! Maybe DCI can have a championship in Minneapolis? The approved stadium is to be built with a roof, but I am betting the venue will change and have a retractable roof.
  22. This is the latest article I could find. It doesnt come right out and say they are tearing down the stadium, but its about as close as anyone can get without saying it. http://thepacificanonline.com/new/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=4013:historical-stagg-memorial-stadium-crumbles&catid=788:volume-103-issue-31&Itemid=4
  23. Interesting news video here: http://www.fox40.com/videogallery/70670749/News/Drum-and-Bugle-Core-Moonlight-Classic-Moves-to-Sac-State Can see a few interviews about the show and some interesting comments by the female commentator at the end. Here is the local newspaper article.
