I was watching Crossmen 1997 the other day, and I was thinking......no one really does shows like that anymore, and it's really unfortunate. It's not like jazz is low-brow music, there's certainly a lot of complexity in jazz music, but it doesn't even seem to be about that, no drum corps is truly doing a JAZZ show this year, or anything remotely groovy. The closest I can remember in recent history would be Bluecoats 2005 and 2006 (who doesn't love that 2nd movement in Bluecoats 06, with the trumpet feature and all that, oh it's great!) But not even the Blue Devils seem to really be playing jazz anymore, the last true show they did was 2004, and a bit in 2005, Dance Derby definitely had a lot of cookin moments in it, but overall everyone is just doing a lot of bland neo-tonal symphonic "drum corps music" (you know...I don't mean this as a bash, but it gets to a point where a lot of shows sound the same. The same approaches to tonality in every arranger, except for Wayne Downey and at times Bocook, but it gets tiresome. Every corps begins their shows with the same fanfare thing in Bb), and it's kind of disappointing. Not that I don't like classical music obviously from all eras, I love Phantom's show, and I LOVE BD's show this year, but I really don't see why there is a lack of delving into the world of jazz repertoire. It's kind of sad that corps have been playing 80s pop songs but not a lick of Duke Ellington or Charles Mingus. That's all I have to say, talk amongst ya selves :(

This is a joke, here's what I would LOVE to see.......... (and this has nothing to do with any "bitterness", I have nothing against any corps) 1. Blue Devils 2. Cadets 3. Blue Stars 4. Phantom Regiment 5. Crossmen 6. Colts 7. Bluecoats 8. Cavaliers

I just don't think a shallow show like Boston's deserves to place higher than what BK and Blue Stars are doing, especially BK. The shows have so much great overall writing going on (musically and visually), and they're only going to get better, not that Boston won't. They had a chance with last year's show to blow past BK, but the judges didn't give it to them, still their show last year was great, with a phenomenal corps on all fronts.

I know this, but to be perfectly honest I've never even seen the Troopers, Mandarins, Esperanza or any of those other groups. I never saw or associated with them when I marched and usually the shows didn't interest me much, and I was in the middle of the mix with the top 8 so yeah. Of course I'd know the corps shows I associate with more than the ones I don't. The only non finalist show I've ever seen and liked was Kiwanis Kavaliers 2005, otherwise they normally just don't interest me. Crossmen was all right in 2005 too, but this chat isn't about that. I'm sorry if I offended you.

No way Blue Knights are going to get beaten by Boston and Blue Stars, BK has THE show this year. Also, unlike Boston, Blue Stars and BK are actually clean. Boston's gonna have to fight to even stay in the top 12, they have the show but the performance is sub par. Same thing with Santa Clara (though they will stay in the top 8). But really, hear me now, the Blue Stars WILL beat the Boston Crusaders. That show and the performance is just too good.

Finals is in 3 weeks, what's gonna happen? 1. Blue Devils 2. Crown 3. Cadets 4. Cavaliers 5. Phantom 6. Bluecoats 7. Santa Clara 8. Blue Knights 9. Blue Stars 10. Boston 11. Colts 12. Crossmen/Glassmen

Every corps makes tons of changes every summer...

Well certainly if a corps staff doesn't agree with how it's being scored, they do challenge the judges and things get pretty heated. My corps definitely did that.

Blue Knights this year. It's great to see a hornline really pull that stuff off with grace.

The lolcat thread is more past its prime than an 80-year-old street walker, and I think I can spice things up a bit with this new, freer thread. Basically you can do motivation pictures. and various other millions of internet memes but with the drum corps twist (What a tweest!) I promise this thread will be far more superior than any thread made anywhere in the history of threads. I will now kick off what will hopefully be loved by all.

I'm sorry, I don't want to be mean, but this thread is all kinds of fail. LOLCats stopped being funny about 4 years ago and people are still beating these atrocities of humor into the ground. Seriously "lolcorps" isn't funny and is a testament to the true lack of humor some people lack. Seriously, some of you are trying so hard, it's almost embarrassing.
