  1. I agree with SCV's ballad....my god what a beautiful drum corps moment. I think that this, partnered with the dancing brass member may be my favorite of the season. While I may have not felt this way about the entire show, i could (and have) listened/watched this section over and over again.
  2. So, I wasn't going to bring this up...but since the topic was started, it's time. I went to the Allentown shows in August for the first time in many years. Had amazing seats, was ready for a great weekend of drum corps. I thought all the corps had amazing shows and performed the hell out of them, probably the best top to bottom we've had in many years. THIS, is my problem...I was told before going that the Allentown crowd was the most knowledgable and respected in drum corps. Sitting preshow and listening to the stories and the history of those around me, I found that to be true. BUT, I WILL NOT RETURN TO ALLENTOWN anytime soon because those sitting around me were what were calling "dino's". I had to listen to them complain after every corps that uses synth. I thought Cascades and Teal had 2 of the best shows i had seen from a 20-23 range corps and i had to listen to the dinos complain about the electric violin, etc....honestly they ruined the show for me. I would much rather sit around a bunch of unknowing high school kids that are in constant awe, then to ever have to deal with that again. Very sad.
  3. Thanks for your 2 cents, and of course everyone has their own opinions :) But speaking in generalities, and my own experiences and interactions with other drum corps corps fans, educators, fmm's, alumni, dci theater goers, high school band 0's these happen to be my observations. BTW my personal opinoin: 2006: LOVED the top three that year, godfather was my favorite till The Cavies blew me away in San Antonio 2007: Not my favorite year, sad to say :( Though definitly put Crown on my radar 2008: Again loved the top three, all for different reasons(phantom/emotion, BD/creativity, Cavies/visual) 2009: Not a favorite year for me but Crown definitly stuck out and showed they could be a contender 2010: Definitly a good year, Cavies impressed me the most with the evolution of MAD WORLD and the finished product come finals. But I enjoyed the top 12 immensely. 2011: Have my favorites of course, Cadets and Phantom are my emotion this year. Crown gives me a smile, Cavies are my shock and awe; im in total amazement at the quality of program and physicality of its members
  4. I believe I read that Minneapolis is now considered a regional show and these scores are also calculated into the QF performance order. that would currently put: Cavies: 90.61 average BD: 90.55 average Cadets: 90.01 average Crown: 89.36 average and on and on.....
  5. I tend to agree with this....And NO Im not a BD "hater". As ive stated before I understand the performance scores that BD receives, they are well deserved. As well as brass, percussion and guard. I dont understand the scores that the judges keep rewarding the general effect and the visual design/demand of their programs. I believe the polite golf claps and delayed standing o's are not because they are "BD" and everyones against them winning, but because people really arent connecting with their show design. People just really want to fall in love with one of their shows and it seems like the masses are not. 2006: wether you like MACHINE or not, it was a fan favorite, still referenced 2007: just a weird year in general, from narration, to George and the hash marks, to being in Cali, etc...not much talk about WINGED VICTORY 2008: SPARTACUS, the champion, still refered to 2009: It seems like the show of the year was Crown and THE GRASS IS ALWAYS GREENER...the only time I really hear mention of 1930 is when someone is bashing the white chairs 2010: second place MAD WORLD seems to be the show of the year, I did enjoy GLASS DARKLY, it had grown on me, but im talkin about shows the "general fan" refer to, not us DCPers. 2011: the fans want to see a shows visual/GE scores rewarded for appealing to the masses not the judges scoring prototypes. I have no problem with scores reflecting the high performance of the BD members and their hard work and dedication/talent.What i'm not understanding is the rewards going to BD's design team for creating programs that arent bringing the fans out of their seats. At the end of their show I feel obligated to stand out of respect for their members and I dont wanna feel that way, I wanna stand because im in awe not only of the members but also the product. Again, I am not hater, Im just someone who really wants a BD show design to match the extreme talent of this organization.
  6. Shouldnt the real title of the thread be Surging...Slumping and "Slotting"?
  7. Even if crown nails their show, it seems the judges feel that their program is not on the same level demand wise (last night they were down 1 point to BD on content scores) as the other three, it would be difficult for them to win, but still possible
  8. Im not counting Crown out either, but last night in head-to-head they were 1.5 points behind BD. If theyre gonna make a move that gap needs to start closing soon. I think Phantom is pretty much a lock for 5th, if anything maybe 4th. As of last nights scores they were 3 points behind Crown.
  9. LAST YEAR IN ATLANTA A 2010 DCI FAVORITE WAS OBVIOUS : ATLANTA 2010 Blue Devils 95.65 Bluecoats 93.75 Cavaliers 93.1 ***BD had a 2.5 point victory margin over Cavies, 1.9 over Blooo THIS YEAR YOUR TOP THREE SCORES ARE WITHIN TENTHS OF POINTS FROM EACH OTHER. If someone can open up a CONSISTENT 1.5 to 2 point lead over second place then the obvious choice for champion may become more evident. Until then I still think its a 3, maybe 4 corps race till the end
  10. ...at anytime did someone mention a conspiracy, judge bias, or anthing else when talking possible explanation of the scores?,,,,,,NO. Did anyone say that the Cadets didnt deserve the win......NO. The OP asked for a possible explantion of what happened tonight, and I gave it. New endings can affect the entire performance of a show. From, how rehearsal time was allocated to the members state of mind while on the field. These factors all can attribute to overall performance. Was tonight the case? Who knows? Is it a possibility? Posters in other threads said the ending of the show felt flat, I stated this may cause the influx in score. We're talking .4 of a point. Show changes just dont effect the visual scores, theyll weigh on how the brass performs/sounds, how the guard and percusiion execute....etc. With the competition being this close judges are looking at everything when awarding scores. Also, If anyone on DCP believes that who the judges are, show region, show changes, rehearsal time, dont have any type of factor in the scoring, you are sorely mistaken. Just saw the recap and I believe it sort of supports the point...Jackie Gilley, the judge, who many claim have it out for the Cadets (and who had the Cadets Guard in like 4th or 5th in a few shows this weekend) tonight had them scoring .5 of a point higher then the Cavies. That right there tells me that the Guard had cleaning to do and ill guess its during the last few minutes.
  11. The scores between Cadets/Crown/BD/Cavies is gonna be close the remainder of the season...show to show...state to state and especially judge to judge. The fact that the Cavies made significant changes to their closing music/drill(within the day) probably led to some influx in the score this evening. The only prediction that can be made for DCI 2011 is that its all gonna come down to Championship week
  12. Also thought bluecoats, had too much as well during Creep, though the music is outstanding
  13. Id have to agree with you on this point. When watching yesterday, especially the beginning of the show (not pre-show) I had this same exact feeling
  14. I could see the tshirt now; front: THE CADEVILIERS The trinity of drum corps back: 20 championships since 1990 (available in green, blue or maroon, of course) (probably have to say 21 championships come August) PS Ill take one in each color....somebody who knows how to screen tshirts please do this, im sure you could sale plenty.
  15. So I just got done lookin at the recaps and I think hell may have frozen over, because I actually agree with the ALL the judges in their placements (for the TOP 5 at least). Some of the spreads/subcaptions may be a litle funky, but the ending placements pretty much nail it. Visual GE Cadets 18.35* Cavies 18.3* BD 18.15 Crown 17.85 *I think Cavies/Cadets will go back n forth here the remainder of the season with the difference in scores being minimal Music GE Cadets 18.3 Cavies 18.1 BD 17.95 Crown 17.95 Vis Perf BD 18.0 Cavies 17.7 Crown 17.5 Cadets 17.4 BD was very clean tonight, Cavies right behind and crown/cadets both noticeable dirt Visual Ensemble BD 18.2 Cadets 17.9 Cavies 17.7 Crown 17.4 BD once again very good as a corps. Cadets/Cavies have the package they just need to clean it up and sell it more Guard Cavies 18.6 BD 18.4 Phantom 18.1 Crown 18 Cadets 17.6 This seems pretty much accurate, there may be an arguement for Cadets over Crown, but I think Crowns book may be a little more dificult Brass Crown 18.1 Cadets 17.8 Cavies 17.7 BD 17.6 Everyone can pretty much agree with Crown in front, the storyline here is how close the CADEVILIERS are to one another and this can go back and forth all season. But you have to give credit to the Cavaliers brass section, who thought at the beginning of the season theyd be trading spaces with bd/cadets and winning brass ensemble. Brass Ensemble Cavies 18.7 BD 18.5 Cadets 18.1 Crown 18 Percussion BD 19 Cavies 18.9 Cadets 18.7 Crown 18.5 I think BD/Cavies will go back and forth on this one for the remainder of the season. Where did SCV go?
  16. you keep saying that the Cavies had an "off night", if thats the case then everyone better watch out for when they have an "on night" Plus I can name 22 other world class corps who would like to have an off night like that..... i kid, i kid
  17. according to debbie torchia....here is the best visual design of the year
  18. beautiful ballad "BRIG HIM HOME" and amazing soloist, but i cant stand the white tarp. it totally distracts from the music and reminds me of the french alps after a heavy snow storm.
  19. no issue. suprisingly flawless all day,,,,,,,,,,,knock on wood
  20. Brass needs some work on the ballad up until the big hit....some of the recorded voices/effects are CREEPY! At the end they could have the guard member get pulled into box
  21. now presenting the blue devils.....i mean Cascades. holy similar boxes batman
