  1. I like the idea of SCV back in the top 3 (finally!) but I dont know. They seem to be have been getting snubbed in recent years. And then I really think that Oregon jumps quite a bit. Not saying top 12 but 13-17 is where I think they land.
  2. Here's a prediction! Hate me or love me for it but this is a wild guess into a scoring system that is impossible to predict. Here we go! 22-Pioneer 21-Cascades 20-Colts 19-Jersey Surf 18-Academy 17-Crossmen 16-Mandarins 15-Troopers 14-Oregon Crusaders 13-Pacific Crest 12-Spirit 11-Blue Stars 10-Boston 9-Blue Knights 8-Bluecoats 7-Cavies 6-Scouts 5-Phantom 4-SCV 3-BD 2-Cadets 1-Crown Thoughts?
  3. I have only seen this show once, and that was on opening night in the theater...so take this for what is worth. I am a big Copland fan so this show is great to me. Percussion was a bit of a let down to me especially compared to recent years. But their concert bass drum line is well appreciated. My thought is that this show will peak (hopefully) on finals night. While this is obviously the goal, I feel that this show won't continue getting better until its all said and done. Again, I havent seen this since opening night but from what I saw there, it had the design to take top honors. IMHO
  4. It seems that everyone is "not overly impressed" with their initial show but honestly, no one's show was dynamite in the theaters tonight. I for one am not used to seeing a theater show that isnt finals so it was a little weird to see much dirt from everyone. Once the Cavies finish their show and get a few more performans in, I'm thinking that most people will have a change of heart. IMO
  5. It was interesting to see Crown drop so much in percussion while Blue Stars went up so much. 1.1 spread down to .1 spread. I agree with the second judge...
  6. After reading my earlier response, I am sorry. My attempt at a joke went way too far and what I was trying to say just came across as very harsh and pointed. SMF, you are completely entitled to your opinion. If I disagree with you, that is my deal not yours. You should feel free to say what you want on this forum. All I was trying to do was poke a little fun at what you said. Obviously I disagree with what you said but I said it in a completely inappropriate way. Again, I apologize to you, SMF, and to everyone for sending the wrong message to what should be a completely open forum.
  7. So seeing that you "saw them all last week" I'm going to assume that means that you aren't marching drum corps which leads to one of a few possible scenarios. 1) You broke your leg jazz running with your "awesome" high school last fall and so you can't march this summer. But it must be an honor to have such an incredible ensemble rehearse on YOUR school's field. 2) You clearly are such a killer musician that you couldn't lower yourself to standards as low as drum corps. Instead, you choose to critique them from the side line 3) Or you simply tried to make the baritone line but just didn't quite make it. Better luck next year?
  8. Ya i'm excited to see who wins between BDB and OC on Thursday
  9. Is the troopers extended chord as loud as i've read about it? I can't afford the webcast so i haven't seen it
  10. Ya right here http://www.dci.org/news/view.cfm?news_id=24bac251-1356-44c8-ab1d-5169d716697f
  11. I did two stupid things when posting... 1) i confused PC with Jersey Surf...not by their ability just their names. I musta been tired or something...these two corps are very different. 2) I based the big jump on a show of open class corps and one world class. Sure they have gotten better but the score was inflated due to the open class corps going first.
  12. So Pacific Crest jumps from 20th to 14th after having a week or so off for rehearsal. Is this the highest they have reached in World class? Either way, this is cool to see them jumping this high. Thoughts?
  13. For sure on the dynasty. I just can't see SCV NOT playing Pearl. (sorry for the double negative) And as far as the reason, I would doubt money cause there's not a lot of that going around right now. Rather, I agree with you tasty, I think that it is just a new direction for Rennick. Best of luck to Vanguard is what I have to say!
  14. I was at the Drums Along the Columbia show tonight and here's what I saw regarding Spokane Thunder, Oregon Crusaders and Vanguard Cadets. Thunder: Small corps with only 15 horns, but it's great to see them back after a one year hiatus. The little corps that could... They were very good in 2008 placing 7th at finals with a score of 91.025. This year they are off to a decent start with plenty of room to improve. The drums sounded impressive for being together for only a short time but they still need a bit of work. Also, their bottom bass had to fly home and he was replaced today (7/5/10) by a new player so good luck to him. The 15 horns (compared to the 18 of 2008) can play loud, but it isn't balanced yet. The guard is small as well (6 members) but at least 3 are multi-year vets so thats a plus for them. They got a low 61.9 which is up from a few nights ago and beat Oregon in music effect. Crusaders: Another year, another show. These guys consistently crank out good, conservative shows. I am not the biggest OC fan mainly because I think that they can pull off some harder things in their shows, but I was impressed at how the show sounded tonight. I didn't care for the use of the synthesizer (or any of the synthesizer use in DCI right now) but it worked for their theme. The bass line was incredible! It's good to see OC with a good bass line again (remembering the great line of '06). One big thing for me though was their show length. I know on July 3 in Hillsboro, OR they didn't have their full show on the field and tonight I couldn't tell if it was a complete show or not. It's July, and I know that it's early for some of the corps that started late, but a full show is a must (at least for me). Other than the bass line, none of the sections really impressed me all that much. However, the brass was sounding pretty loud! :) Oregon's score dropped 2 points from their last show getting a 69.2. SCVC: Cool show! I really liked the show theme here and the writing of the show. It's interesting to see how Casey Brohard (ex-Blue Devil) works with the percussion and how his Blue Devils experience translates into the notes being played, but he's doing a great job cause they sounded good! From their lot, I wasn't overly impressed, but I didn't get to stay that long. With that said, they put it down on the field. The brass really brought it tonight showing how great they can be. While their score didn't rise from 2 days ago, it didn't drop either (which can't be said about all the corps here tonight - troopers, cascades, oc all dropped). Their 75.4 gave them first in Open class tonight.
