  1. This thread illuminates exactly what DCA is all about. Perfect.
  2. Ha, it's OK to gloat man, you have a right. After the way that dude from Magic of Mobile talked trash to you, he deserves it.
  3. It was lame. This ridiculously skinny guy flouncing around the stage and acting all emo while a battery & brass ensemble stood up straight demonstrated more musical skills than the "band" did was foolish.
  4. Funny, I read the entire article several times ( a great story btw) and never once ran across the words bankruptcy, courts, foreclosure or hiding of assets. Boston's legacy was built on people who knew how to make it with little to no money and lots of honest hard work. I have yet to see anyone refer to the Director of the Spartans as being of similar stock. Now if there are other shenanigans going on up there (where is all the corps equipment anyway?) thenwho knows what will happen.
  5. Well there are conflicting questions here. The thread says "Do we need another Bridgemen or VK"? The reference is to corps who employed humor or "schtick" in their performances. The poll asks if we need a new "fun" corps in DCI. Their is a big difference between fun & funny. Many corps have presented shows that tend to be characterized as fun. They tend to be jazz or pop oriented. The 1990's Crossmen (especially 1992 & 1997-98) come to mind. Funny is a whole different corps character. I don't think we need class clowns. If a corps were to adopt that persona it would lead to inevitable comparisons that would be difficult to live up to. An example is the current incarnation of VK. Although I am happy the organization is active again, they are by no means a force on the DCI level. If anything they have placed too much emphasis on the sizzle and not enough on the steak. The staff needs to teach the kids to play & march first. The antics can come when a solid foundation of performance is achieved. As for a new corps, look for Jersey Surf to continue to develop as a World Class corps. They have always kept an eye on pleasing the crowd. There were years the Surf programming was more enjoyable than most of the Top 12. As their performance levels increase they may be the just what the doctor ordered. Here is hping they can pull it off. A few years ago Pacific Crest flirted with similar programming concepts but retreated considerably last year back to the wind literature repertoire. Ugh.
  6. "No strings attached" sounds kind of dirty. Don't you really mean they would be "Friends with Benefits" ?
  7. Back to the thread's topic.... What is going on in Nashua?????
  8. I vaguely recall the 1990 Cadets doing a pretty good job with "Somewhere", maybe evening winning a championship that year.
  9. How long have you been on the Revolution's management team now?
  10. Dude, you must be Sunburned. I am no fan of DCA at all, just trying to relate to the 3rd baritone guy who was bemoaning the way DCI treats Open Class Corps. It's the same way in DCA, plus beer in the parking lot.
  11. No- the DCI fans are speaking loud and clear. They do not go. Ever been to Div 2/3 (open class) only show with 50 people in the stands? How about the Division 3 prelims with like 10????
  12. Wow, without plates what would members put their meal in at the food truck?
  13. Hang on the buddy boy..... exactly who is doing the paying to the Open Class corps? Since their shows bring in little to no revenue they EARN virtually nothing. DCI, aka The World Class Corps, is struggling with their own revenue shortfalls. To provide greater welfare payments to the Open Class is just not something easily done in today's economic climate. Now if the Open Class corps decided to drop the watered down contemporary concert literature and works by Finnish a capella groups and provide entertaining shows from June to August, then that would be a horse of a different color, wouldn't it? As long as Open Class corps come out woefully unprepared (or is it whoa-fully ) and provide no connection to the audience, then the market will dictate its success or lack thereof. Isn't this like DCA where top corps negotiate separately with show sponsors above and beyond the DCA contract? I am guessing the Empire Statesmen don't kick back a few extra bucks to the Sunrisers or Fusion Corps. The phrase "throwing good money after bad" applies here.
  14. now if they serve funnel cakes and scrapple for dessert,I am there.
  15. Awesome. His time with Blue Stars has already surpassed his tenure with YEA ! good luck finding that tenor drummer
  16. I still want to know if Howie Weinstein is still with the corps - he must have been too busy recruiting a tenor drummer to represent the BlueStars.
  17. With the bingo income they should hire someone who speaks English as a FIRST language to manage their website. Some drum corps folks just don't know when to quit.
  18. perhaps corps are feaful of comparisons to the awesomeness that was the 1983 Valley Fever?
