  1. First of all, my heart goes out to Teal Sound and the entire organization. I love the fact that there are many arm chair quarterbacks posting this and that, and blah blah blah. What I will say and have said before eventually there will be fewer than 20 World Class Corps, because the member number keeps rising. When they hit 200, there goes Pioneer, Troopers, Cascades, Jersey Surf, Mandarins and Pacific Crest. This is exactly what is happening. It is expensive to operate an organization at such. I have friends personally who went through an entire season of a drum corps that soon folded, and it was HELL! Why?? Because people didn't care. In this case, I have no doubt, the director cared and wanted the best for the kids. Unfortunately in this day and age of technology, every thinks they know the right answer. People use poor judgement when making statements. I guess my question is, Why weren't the BIG 7 there to catch The Teal Sound? If Drum Corps is about family and camaraderie where were the arms to catch them? I'm not saying pay their way out and such, but thanks to member corps mostly out of the top 12 reached out and picked up many of the members. I hope to see Teal Sound come out stronger and better than ever next year. It can happen. For all negative Nancy's it'd be great to keep the comments and finger pointing inside the four walls of your place. Thanks.
  2. Just a month away! Who needs rooms! Check the link above!
  3. I have received numerous letters from Nigeria, and England stating how someone thought of me so much they left millions to me. They would be glad to deposit in my banking account provided I send them all my information...Yep..right on that...**sarcasm** It is becoming a sad state of mind, because even the cast of Happy Days are claiming they should be receiving royalties. GREED GREED GREED! I am just speechless.
  4. Do you have your rooms for this great event yet? Time (and rooms) are running out.
  5. Here is the thing...I just skimmed through this thread. My thoughts are such as with the Heat / Thunder NBA Championships series, quad...do you just sit on your hands with no emotion? Because after all they can't hear you! Are you not an armchair quarterback when NFL season is in progress and yell at the TV when the Patriots / Jets are playing (or whomever your favorite team is)? These young people work tirelessly throughout the season to put on an outstanding show day in and day out. Considering the pressure of these corps to be further along than many others because of the big screen performance as well is enormous. I think every person (including myself) has the right to cheer and show appreciation. After all we do it in our living rooms so why not theater?
  6. I think before joining any drum corps or going to a drum corps show if you're a fan, everyone should be required to read "Who Moved My Cheese" by Spencer Johnson M.D.

  11. The most memorable moment for me was in SO Prelims at the Nutter Center. Harlan HS, KY took the floor. Beautiful tarp, beautiful uniforms, great beginning...then the music skipped once, twice....then stopped.....those kids kept spinning like pros. When in fact, this was their first year not only in SO, but ever having a winter guard. The response from the audience was absolutely amazing and they were cheered on. Unfortunately, their second run did not begin well and had problems. Those kids got a great ovation and I only see them moving onto bigger and better things. From what I was reading of guards being from the same city..Warren Central and Lawrence Central are both from Indianapolis :) (Technically) and within 15 minutes of each other. Plus going up to the north side of Indy is Carmel, the central part you have Center Grove on the West side Avon, and a tad further west Northview. Plus now that Lake Central should be promoted to Scholastic World, Indiana will have 7 World Class Guards. Another unit may be going world class in Indiana (not doing WGI though) but no official word on that yet. I loved Carmels show because the entire thing was scripted on their tarp. How cool was that? Warren Central - The Elephant in The Room - Their shows always make me think. We have elephants everywhere that need to be eliminated!..They must be addressed. The way those girls whirled those elephant whips around....the snapping sounds...just so enticing. Lawrence Central - The Boxes....I saw this program a lot as well. LOVED IT. They have girls that can move and move darn well. Northview - I just don't think this show ever got the credit it deserved. I don't think I'll ever listen to Opera the same way. My two favorite shows of the weekend: Lake Central - How this show didn't win SO is beyond me. Absolutely exquisite to watch those young ladies utilize their hair, movement, and equipment on a flawless scale of perfection. This was the first show that almost made me cry. Fantasia - How I wish this show was cleaner. As Fantasia goes, this was an executed show of thought provoking moments and images that one can only imagine from the era in history. I felt their emotion where I was sitting, and had this show gone on another 10 seconds I would have been balling like a baby. One a side note I have to say that the kids from Flannigan were awesome to talk to. They even let me take a picture with the trophy. This is an advantage of working at a hotel and staying where the kids are staying. Such great young people. I can't wait for 2013!

  13. I totally agree with all 15 SA Finalists being promoted. This by far was one of the most talented group of young performers in this class. Should they all excel in the Open Class, it will be a most exciting Open Class next year :)
  14. Here are the Scholastic A Finalists: Mansfield HS, TX – Modern Dance Macabre – Wearing black uniforms with white swirls and the floor resembling a rotted tree this ensemble wowed those in attendance. The opening rifle statement was fantastic. This ensemble moves extremely well. The purple silk feature towards the end of the program was executed wonderfully. One question though was with the program they were performing to utilize yellow silks? Also, the ensemble started out performing and ended in the character very well, however during the middle of the show, it seemed to lose steam. The program was brought to an ending as the creepy crawly performers slid into slits in the tarp to go back underground. GREAT JOB!!!! Americas HS, TX – Joy – Performing on a pastel colored tarp in elegant white uniforms this ensemble gracefully took the floor. This moving performance started with a beautiful blue silk statement. The salmon / gold silk statement performed with the rifles was executed nicely. The rifle duet kicked in and transitioned into a yellow silk feature again, was executed nicely. The show transitioned from the yellow silk statement into the beautiful movement sequence brought this elegant program to a close. This group moves wonderfully. Well Done!!! Friendswood HS, TX – Celestial Voices – The opening of the program was elegantly performed as the soloist strolled gently towards the back with the harp playing gently. The guard underneath a white sheath fabric made their way out onto the blue tarp covered in clouds. The rifle solo was transitioned into a duet wonderfully performed. The pink flag ensemble into the ripple was executed nicely. As the program came to a close, the harpist resumed as the soloist made her way back to the white sheath fabric and the giant cloud swallowed her. Great Job!!! DeSoto HS, TX – Amazing Women – This small ensemble took the floor on a simple black tarp, in elegant uniforms. This group moves extremely well. Performing a program about amazing women, each performer exhibited elegant moves into the white silk ensemble. The only concern, was with this beautiful program was hearing “out” being yelled. The ending white silk feature had a hint of silver, blue and seafoam green as the program ended with a well performed movement statement. Nicely done! Passaic HS, NJ – Picnic Antics – Taking the floor with a giant picnic in the back, and looking like ants on the prowl, this ensemble dazzled the audience. The opening sabre statement, which led into an ensemble of watermelon silks being introduced was executed nicely. The silk exchange with the rifle toss was performed nicely. The ending of the show brought silks containing different foods on them such as Reese Cups, sandwiches, and such and the ensemble executed the ending perfectly. Well Done!! Croatan HS, NC – I Believe - This ensemble took the floor in simple black uniforms on a floor that spanned a world layout. The opening movement statement was wonderful which transitioned into the opening blue silk solo. This led into a perfectly executed ensemble moment using silks. The blue silk ripple was complimented by the rifle ripple and ensemble. Towards the end of the program white silks were featured with different country flag motifs on them. The program concluded with a beautiful movement statement. Well Done!! Plymouth Canton HS, MI – Taking the floor on a sealike tarp, with a huge sail in the back right, and hint of gold on the floor this ensemble executed their program. The rifle feature with the addition of silk quintet was performed nicely. Overall this ensemble moves well and executed the program extremely well. Great comeback in finals. Nicely Done!! Francis Howell North HS, MO – As She Waits – Taking the floor on a pentagon shaped brick tarp, with a window in the center and a performer waiting, this ensemble gave quite a performance. In all honesty, I was so wrapped up in watching the emotional performance take place there was no time for notes. The opening movement statement is awesome. The various silks they utilized had various colors of “window” on them. This was definitely one of the most emotional shows of the weekend. Great Job!!! Homestead HS, CA – Vector Blue – Blue velvet boxes outlined the blue squares on the tarp. The full body blue uniforms fit perfectly, and the performers faces were silver. This program moved from the get go. The opening movement statement was fantastic which led into a blue silk and sabre statement. As the music progress the end of the program produced gold silks which went wonderfully against the blue. WOW can this ensemble move. Well Done!! Greenfield Central – The Dash Between – In five years of winterguard competition this ensemble made a huge impact making finals. Taking the dash covered floor, in elegant uniforms, this ensemble gave perhaps their most emotional performance of the season. I think the shock and awe of the whole weekend hit this unit as they entered the arena. They did experience performance issues in the first ninety seconds of the program again, recovery was outstanding, then it was business as usual. Nailing the flag exchange from the back to the front, the sabre soloist into duet, great job. Performing to music from Claire de Lune and a poem narrating how one would want to be remembered for their “dash.” This was another one of those three emotional performances from finals groups. Great Job young ladies!!! Lyman HS, FL – Citizen of the Planet – Performing to a soundtrack that was moving from beginning to end, taking the floor on a compass like directional tarp, and donning elegant uniforms, this ensemble came to play. The opening rifle feature was outstanding. The great transition into the green / gold flag statement was executed nicely. This ensemble also utilized their hair very well. The sabre and purple silk feature was magical. The ending orange silk transitioned into a musical choreographed movement ending. GREAT JOB!! Kokomo HS, IN - Sposason Disprezzata – This ensemble gave it all and left it all on the floor. Taking the floor on a multi rust / copper color floor in simple but yet matching uniforms, this ensemble took the floor. From the performer executing an opening headstand in the back right, to the outstanding male performer, this group couldn’t have put on a better program if they tried. From the ensemble moments to the individual moments there is no doubt left of the talent ability of this group. From the seafoam green silk ensemble to the ending white silk ensemble, to the ending kiss and movement statement, this unit executed their program. Great Job!! Byrnes HS, SC – Hometown – This ensemble showed of their touring season represented by signage of cities they have performed in, of course ending with Dayton, OH. The unit had suitcases representing their travels. Unfortunately, I was involved the captivation of the performance I neglected to take notes. I do recall this unit couldn’t do much wrong, and they move very well. Nicely Done!! Spanish River HS, FL – Sunday in the Park – Taking a different spin on Claire de Lune, this ensemble took us on a stroll through the park on a Sunday afternoon. The tarp resembled a park. Wearing maroon uniforms and starting with miniature colored umbrellas this ensemble performed wonderfully. The opening yellow silk statement led into individual sabre moments that were perfectly executed. The ending sunset style silks led the audience into the sunset and the close of the program as we experienced a Sunday in the Park. Great Job!! North Syracuse Central HS, NY – Why ? – Taking the floor, which was covered by a giant question mark, and performing to the music of Annie Lennox, this ensemble made an emotional connection. Honestly I was mesmerized by this performance and couldn’t look away long enough to write anything down. This ensemble moved gracefully and executed what they were asked to perform. The most amazing moment though, was the ensemble movement sequence around the question mark, ending on the period at the end. WOW WOW WOW….This was in my opinion the most emotionally charged program of, if not the A class, the entire weekend. GREAT JOB!!! This ensemble definitely deserved the Gold Medal.
  15. Avon, IN has been on the verge of setting standards in movement. These young ladies and gentleman move with the smoothness of parkay margarine. Ever since their program in 2007 this program and performers have made huge strides in the movement category. Warren Central also had alot of intriguing movement moments. Center Grove with just thirteen young ladies on the floor the movement that these performers exhibit is fantastic. And Carmel, wow...what graceful movers these young ladies are...OK I'm a bit partial being from Indiana. But still these four ensembles...watch out next year is all I can say :).
  16. I think more effectively would be, should you not pay your dues by world championships, you better be callin someone to pick your happy butt up...LOL.....The non paying members forfeit their way home...lol
  17. Top 15 at SA finals at Worlds move up
  18. Avon's show was entitled "Release" using music from Mahler's 5th
  19. Will, did you get a chance to see Warren Central. Performing original music entitled Chaos Theory, with great narration and very important as well, this is one of the strongest units WC has put on the floor in some years. From the musicality to the choreography this show is outstanding, and will definitely be in the top 5 at World Championships. With the pulsation of the music and the fastening pace as the show concludes the work and expressive qualities in this group are amazing. Should a world group come not prepared, Warren Central will surely be there to take that spot :)
  20. Aimachi will also be performing in an exhibition at Carmel HS in Carmel IN on March 31st, 2009 :)
  21. Heritage – Time After Time – Donning lavender uniforms this elegant unit took the floor on a beautiful blue tarp with a bright light shining from the center. The opening movement statement leading into the sabre solo into the silk solo was great. The lavender flag statement and sabre statement was nice. The opening brown silk statement was musical. This ensemble moves extremely well. The purple flag statement set the ending for this program that was performed nicely. Scottsburg – Some Things Are Meant to Be – Performing on a floor with a heart placed diagonally with swirls throughout this unit performed to the max. The pink uniforms blended nicely with the tarp. The musical movement opening led into a sabre solo. The vocals of the soundtrack introduced pink flags. This program was simple but elegant. This young ensemble will definitely improve in the years to come. Avon – Surprise – The tarp was a big gold present with a black bow. The gold silk statement was performed great. This ensemble exhibited nice emotional qualities. There were golden gifts brought out as a surprise. Ending the program bringing out black and gold balloons, and a flair of golden confetti. Nicely done. Mooresville – What Once Was Lost - With only five performers this ensemble filled the various gray-shaded floor with emotion and skill. The black flag ensemble brought the angel out into a beautiful dance sequence as the program came to a conclusion. Well done. Chesterton – Happy to Be – Performing to Festive Overture on a neon yellow tarp with neon rainbows interspersed of various colors (reminds me of taste the rainbow..skittles), this ensemble featured a female snare drummer. What a pleasant surprise. The ballerina uniforms accented the title of their program Happy To Be. The opening movement sequence leading into the teal flag triangle was great. The individual rifle tosses across the back was fantastic. The ending purple flag feature with the snare drum soloist in the back brought the program to a fantastic end. Great Job!! East Central – Tidal Wave – Donning sea foam green uniforms on an ocean blue tarp with subtle waves, this program starts off with a great movement statement moving into a solid rifle quintet. The addition of green flags accents the program. During the ballad huge balls are introduced during the ballad adding a flow and ebb to the performance. This program was musically well choreographed and well performed. Nicely Done. Pike – He Still Speaks To Us Today – Taking the floor on a tarp emblazoned with a portrait of Abraham Lincoln and his speech, donning purple uniforms this ensemble interprets this program wonderfully. The narration speaks of Lincoln’s history as the ensemble performs to soft music throughout the program. The opening movement statement was well performed that led into a great flag feature. Minor performance issues occurred through out the performance but recover was great. The sabre soloist was awesome. The conclusion came with a nice movement sequence and a red / white / blue silk soloist. Well done. Fairfield – Eclipsed by Love – On a tan floor with an orange heart, the unit wearing lavender uniforms, this was an elegant performance. This ensemble moves extremely well and shows great emotion. The lavender silk / rifle feature was strong. The lavender / orange silk statement led into an emotional movement ending. Nicely done. Muncie Southside – Sometimes – Taking the floor wearing black and red uniforms, ladders on the side and red backdrops as props, this group gave a great performance. The tarp was a two tone red with gold interspersed. The opening sabre statement was great. During the ballad different colored swing flags were featured. As the music again progressed, the rifle sextet and the aqua flag feature were nicely performed. Performance issues occurred but were handled nicely. The combination rifle and silk opening feature were flawless. Great emotional qualities were exhibited throughout the ballad. The individual sabre moments leading into the pumpkin flag statement were well performed. Overall this unit performed with emotion and grace. The ending of the program with the beheading (done with tact) was dramatic. Great Job!! Perry Meridian – A Small Crime – Purples and lavenders were the choice of colors for this unit as they took the floor. Lavender silks hanging of the backdrops appeared to be like a mirrored effect at the beginning of the program. The opening silk statement led into a smooth rifle solo. The ensemble seemed to become more emotional as the program progressed. The rifle feature led into the copper silk ensemble, which brought this terrific show to a close. Nicely done. Hamilton Southeastern – Hometown Glory – Taking the floor in hometown style uniforms on a tarp featuring streetlamps and a bench with a city skyline, this ensemble performed with grace. Great Job and Congratulations are in order for capturing the Bronze Medal. Snider – notwithstanding – Taking the floor on a gray tarp with a spiral in the back right hand corner, the ensemble took the floor. Slowly with graceful movements this group broke out of the spiral to perform an outstanding opening sabre moment. This ensemble showed great emotion in their performance. There was something written on the dashes which wasn’t quite clear. The ending moment of the performance each performer had calla lily and placed it on their dash. Therefore this is the reason that flash photography is NOT allowed. Thank you!! Kokomo - Sposason Disprezzata – This ensemble interpreted the music of this piece in an artistic fashion. This groups moves impeccably and transitioned smoothly. The opening movement sequence into the transition of the seafoam green silks, was great. The tarp is a rust, copper color with half archs on the floor. The white silk feature is performed with perfection. As the ending movement brings the program to a close a passionate kiss occurs and ends. Very nice program!! Congratulations on capturing the Silver Medal this year. Good Luck at WGI World Championships in two weeks. Lawrence Central – Amazing Grace – Performing a great version of Amazing Grace by Ani Difranco, this ensemble put on a fantastic program. From the silk ensembles to the ending rifle soloist…WOW what a great performance. The purple silk ensemble was fantastic. The musical choreography of the program was great. Congratulations on winning the Gold Medal this year. Northview – Young Person’s Guide to the Zodiac – With thirteen performers, one may wonder why with only twelve zodiac signs, there is an odd number of performers. There are two Gemini performers, which represent twins. With the zodiac on the tarp and multiple constellations coinciding with the signs this ensemble displays great equipment work. There were minor performance issues, which were quickly overcome. The starting pose is that of the zodiac, as is the symbols on the uniforms, as well as the ending pose. The blue silk ensemble begins with the four water symbols of the zodiac. This is a talented group of young ladies, who perform this program with grace and elegance. Well Done!!! Center Grove – Here Comes the Flood – On a bubbly blue tarp, sporting sparkly fringed various colors of blue uniforms, this elegant group of young ladies take the floor. With only thirteen performers there is a lot of exposure that can be had either in a good or bad fashion. This however was exposure for the good. There were a couple of performance issues but recovery was outstanding. The opening movement sequence was eloquently performed leading into the white silk ensemble. This ensemble is certainly on the move up as the Grove typically rises to the occasion each year. The talented performers are graceful and elegant as they perform. What a beautiful program. Great Job!!! Warren Central – Chaos Theory – Various numbers are on emblazoned on the tarp, which if looking at closely can create chaos. The narration is extremely important during this program. As the explanation of numbers is explained in the narration, with the driving music, during the performance the show progresses. The guard looks as that of chaos has been created. The opening movement sequence is intricate and detailed, which leads into a rifle ripple from the back left to the right front and is performed flawlessly. The double spinning that occurs with the green silks is fantastic. The last silk used, maroon with golden curves is reminiscent of snake fangs (which is a reference to rolling snake eyes); as more performers transition to the maroon silk the music continues to pick up the pace and comes to a climatic finish, with a greatly executed toss. What a great performance!! Congratulations on capturing the Bronze Medal!! Carmel - Good Luck "Find a penny, pick it up, and all day long you'll have Good Luck – In copper colored uniforms, on a floor resembling brush with a copper colored four leave clover this talented group of young ladies take the floor. The opening movement sequence coincides with the whistling on the sound track as these young performers move wonderful. As the whistling stops a green flag soloist begins transitions into a silk trio then into a sabre solo. This ensemble executes perfectly with the musicality choreography of the program. Congratulations on capturing the Silver Medal!! Avon – Release – Performing music from Mahler’s 5th this graceful elegant ensemble takes the floor on a simple tarp with a diagonal strip. Simple yet elegant uniforms grace the performers. The opening movement statement alone shows the training this group possesses; this leads to a perfect sabre solo. In trying to totally understand the translation of the show title “Release,” it could be release of equipment, release of letting a loved one go, or a few other things.
