  1. I Actually got 1 recently BUT I refused also but not because of the G7 because I dont like his personal policies and know where he is really coming from. I will support a member which I guess may be the same but wont give him the satisfaction. I do give him credit for keeping the corps alive all these years but he seems to be more out of control lately ( ask some volunteers )... I usually try to stay more controlled in all this opinion based forum but sorry This one just got to me. Good luck this week to all the corps and yes Cadets also.
  2. In WGI ? are you kidding? Its a hot topic all the time. Maybe because you have some insight to percussion.. But with guards it's been huge, with photos as well as recordings of performances.
  3. Youre right and many WGI participants are fed up with that process. So maybe it is time for a change..lol
  4. IMO of course they would.. Do you actually believe among directors this is someithing new in the way of the attitude of some directors? Do you actually think they havent witnessed this before. This is nothing new to most who have been in the inner circle. YEs maybe not publically with this proposal but they have seen it for many many years way back to 72. And yes many still supported them.
  5. Maybe youre right BUT you can reast assure that part of this was discussed by the 7 and a solution decided. WGI tries this all the time although in that case I think its time WGI guards and percussion stand up to them and say You know this is my guard or drum line. You are making a bundle off me , dont tell me I cant use my own produts to do what I want when I want. MAybe thats part of this whole thing. Taking charge of your own destiny and controlling what is yours.
  6. I bet they can. IF its a non DCI sponsored event. Otherwise DCI would be able to keep those other things off youtube and they cant
  7. I dont think DCI owns the names at all Maybe the product for distribution, which corps give permission and Im sure in some court can get that back after a certain time also. DCI is like a co-op not the surpreme owner of anything. MAybe Im wrong in this Ive pretty much stayed on the teaching side of DCI BUT if it is true that DCI does own then an even bigger mistake IMO was made back in 72
  8. Well, I dont say it was exact BUT to your question. Im not trying to prove anything other than the fact that Drum Corps at that time was interested in taking care of themselves and NOT carrying the weight of others of the anchor of the VFW or Legion. This part seems the same. JUst making the comparison that BYLINE posted and agreeing with them , not making a choice of which I like or dislike.
  9. Youre right but as I have said in other posts , Sometimes we think what we did was better and cant be competed with and we hold onto what in actualality we do not own. It's a shame that in many aspects the people who come before us are not respected enough BUT on the other hand it's also a shame that we want to hold onto what WE thought was best and with that we become cut out.
  10. You are right but watch how you are ignored with the statement or people will say that WELLLLLL it wasnt excluding anyone, which it kind of did, you had no rights unless you made it in. Alot is the same just with a 2010 twist. People will defend the " Brotherhood " thing and alot of what I read from people it certainly is selective memory. But I guess we all do that when we look back to our youth. Wasnt it all wonderful, better, more entertaining, cheaper, better choices, more tradition, Well I guess todays kid will do the same. ANd was it all those things , well many of them sure but it wasnt all roses either. Its all Psych 101.
  11. Those days are long gone my friend. Although it was nice, community involvement ( keeping kids off the streets ) WOW i havnt heard that phrase in years..lol.....Look around Kids arent on the streets...They are in front of video screens, computers, texting, on i- pods, cells phones, many in underage clubs NONE of this of which we had a mere 20 or 30 years ago. Kids have many more choices than we did, hanging out at the boys club or a church hall.is not an option now. Even if you could get the support of a church , VFW or hall will you get those kids like years ago? I doubt it. You going to get a church to donate a hall or finance this project. NEVER happen. I have friends teaching winter programs paying in excess of 15 grand for a weekend rehearsal facility for the winter months. It's a new world, like it or not Our days of that type of thing , which does bring back very good memories are gone forever I'm afraid.
  12. OOPS...lmfao......a type O I meant such not suck....hmmmmmm ok Im waiting say it .....lol
  13. im from THAT era but I still dont get why people think corps have to keep the same ole same ole in 2010 Yeah I remember it fondly sure It would bring back a good memory or 2 but how boreing ( IMO ) with whats being done today I wish I were able to do suck a creative product. GEZZZ I look back at some videos....( early video..lol..) and say GEZZ what did we even sweat about , we hardly moved? Is it to keep in tradition? ok maybe keep tradition but dont let it hold you back and sometimes it can do that. JMO..ughhhhh
  14. I've been saying this from the beginning, a typical business tactic. Then they get what They REALLY wanted and the others who have been opposed think they won. MAN transparent to me anyway. Seen it soooooo many times.
  15. thats because the world has changed....no other reason.. I can list 100 ways it has changed but helllll what else did we have to do back then..NO MUCH. kids today have everything and so many choices at their finger tips. Just look at the phones, I pods etc etc. many dont have a dime to their name but have every electronic possible. We were lucky if we were allowed to use the phone at home....lol......2010 different world. And Drum Corps has evolved and changed just like everything else...and should
  16. WOW look at some of these scores. of course it will be over 99 unless they drop several at championships a few points. When you score , lets say 8th-12th close to 90 or above like some did tonight there is no choice than to push 1-5 through the roof...oooo well just numbers. Good luck to all
  17. Not sure who orig. Poster is talking about.....maybe some specifics? But I will say doing more doesnt mean better at all. It's way more involved than that.
  18. Maybe I misread the whole thing. If the person is good enough for BD and wants to be in Spirit or whoever Thats great and I admire that. The comment made by another poster about going to Spirt now having a better chance to make finals because as they put it THERE MAY BE ROOM IN FINALS IF THE 7 LEAVE is what bothered me. Personally I could care less either way. Either way , wherever someone wants to stay DCI or G7 Hooplas thats fine . Drum Corps is Drum Corps
  19. I was with ya all the way till you last few lines. I Agree about synths , I dont care for them myself, But I still think they will come to DCA sooner or later .Many of my friends teaching seem to want them at least to some degree but I dont agree with the identity thing. I think it has changed many ways over they years and the basis is still there and I think will always be there. Designers have demanded more in DCA to come on board and to some degee got it. To me. JMO...DCA or drum corps in general should be ever evolving, of course with respect to the roots of the activity but not held back by them. I totally agree with you about how young it has got in DCA over the past few years , when you look on here and the post is about someones kid in DCA and their Screen name is CONTRA DAD..OR CYMBAL MOM and posting in the SR> or all age area. it's crazy......lol ( Disclaimer: just picked those names out of the air. if there is someone dont be oofended..lol )
  20. You are right alot of people do feel that way and alot the other BUT as someone who has their foot maybe in both generations of this activity I find it sad a little that there cant be more cross over generationally. Maybe it is, maybe whats here on DCP is not as significant as alot say...maybe it is, who knows but when the new cant learn from the older and vice versa it's a sad day. Theres alot IMO to be learned on both ends. The good and bad for that matter.
  21. Not a big baseball fan myself But no matter how the rules change base ball is basball. isnt it? You hit the ball run to a base DONE ...!!!..lol..you cant compare Drum Corps to it. Music changes every year, visuals change. DO you want them to stay the same from year to year GOD I hope not. As to the statement the other poster made about the 20 yr DCA fan and ticket buying. YES that is true but let me put something out there. What happens when the fan of today maybe well into their 50s or 60s or whoever isnt around to buy a ticket. IF you dont start letting in the people of today there will be no tomorrow. Everyone knows this in other activities WHY NOT DRUM CORPS. I am not saying change everything or that I like it all BUT It's not mine to own. JMO
  22. Thats not quite the message I go BUT I would be all for that. I personally think there are way to many ring chasers to begin with and a lack of loyalty period and if that was what was being said I am all for it and to the kid PM me I will even help them with sponsorship to achieve this BUT if it was what I assumed from the beginnning to be true then I stand by my statement.
  23. Yea WHATEVER the statement just hit a never..sorry if you dont approve. It doesnt teach a kid anything if you telling them...oooo ok maybe its better you may have a better chance cause 7 wont be there....Sorry if you dont agree. And if it wasnt intened that way it sure sounded it... Now I guess we can go back to talking about GM or WHATEVEr
