  1. I know they've been in talks of it before, but I'm not so sure what happened to that. I totally agree that it's a great place for people to start their marching career though, as I'm actually a Spartans alum, and went on to march elsewhere afterwards. And they've always been a local corps, for the most part. But the administration runs things so well, that I truly believe if they wanted to move up to world class, they'd have no problem at all recruiting more members.
  2. I think I'm going to miss the cummerbunds though! Speaking of the Spartans though, I'm loving how much of a strong large organization they've become. Wonder if they'll be going world class anytime soon? They've had the same staff for a long time, and are very very stable.
  3. Spartans are updating their look for the first time in at least 10 years. Maybe longer. I think they look great, check em out!
  4. Really really like the Blue Knights show this year! Loving the music and design a lot. Just seems a bit odd not having Marc Sylvester and his drill there anymore though.
  5. So...after reading through this thread, a lot of hate. A whole lot. But hey...he did it. Apparently the corps turned into a Soundsport thing for this season, and might continue to recruit more for next season as an Open Class DCI corps. They had their very first performance alongside the Crossmen last week for their "Friends and family" type event. A few Youtube clips are up too:
  6. Show some respect. That's probably one of the most asinine comments I've read on this forum. Embarrassed to wear that? Hell, you'd probably never come close to making the corps with that kind of attitude.
  7. I'd completely disagree with BD 2007. Some of the most outstanding drum breaks in my opinion, since 2000, are Cadets 2000, Cadets 2005, Bluecoats 2008, Cavaliers 2004, and Phantom 2007.
  8. Watch out for Spartans this summer...they're gonna be ridiculous. Last year was technically a rebuilding year, and 3rd place? They're only going up for sure.
  9. True. The way BD tunes drums normally is not something I like at all. But I think the most important factor in how a drum actually sounds is the technique used to play the actual drum. Phantom and BD have such different techniques, which contribute the most to their sound quality, regardless of the tuning or brand of the drums. Dynasty CAN sound nice. But the problem I've found with them is the more they get beat up, the faster they lose their tuning, and you just have to go at it again. I've played on Dynasty drums that would drop pitch a significant rate right after a show....even after tuning them beforehand =/
  10. Hey, original poster...you don't have anything to worry about, actually. At the Blue Star facility for the camps, the guys showers are all individual stalls anyways. Just bring your clothes into the stall and change in there. Nothing to worry about at all! But, don't get used to it...you'll have to shower with others eventually. No big deal. Hope this eased your anxiety a little bit :)
  11. Auditioning for Crown's bassline at the December camp. Can't wait, I need my drum corps fix!
  12. Hmmmm, good question. Sadly, injuries DO happen all the time in drum corps, regardless of where you're at. But as far as personal preference, I think being part of a growing corps would interest me, which is a reason I want to march Crown. And to a previous poster, when I said a bit more relaxed, I didn't mean easy one bit. I fully understand how tough drum corps is, I've marched a year already. I was just saying....that rehearsal technique the Cadets use is a bit too much for me probably.
  13. I'm talking about the intensity of marching with Cadets compared to any other corps. Ridiculously driven corps, of course. But it comes at a price, especially when you see so many of their members hurt with only a few weeks left of tour... Not saying it's a bad thing, really. But I'd rather be a part of something a bit more relaxed.
  14. To be honest, I'm sure it has. I'm a huge Cadets and Crown fan. I was debating on going to either Crown or Cadets for this upcoming season, and I think I've picked Crown. Still love em both, but I'd rather not get my ### completely handed to me all summer with Holy Name =]
  15. No one said it was hard, it just adds to the overall visual package.
  16. Cavaliers 08 front ensemble is probably one of my favorites of all time. Seeing them live so many times last summer, I couldn't help but watch the pit most of the time. They were SOOOOOO into that show.
  17. Go watch some videos of BD's book on a certain site...they're there. Then compare it to oh...Crown's book. Holy Name's book. It doesn't even compare... But yes, I can agree with the pit statement. They have lots of fantastic runs in the show, can't deny that any.
  18. I've seen BD's show 3 times now, and lots of Youtube videos of their drumline in the lot. Here's my personal opinions on it: +Ridiculous horn book +Very defined theme +CLEAN FEET like no other +Battery's hands and technique are probably the most together from any corps today. Excellent stick heights, refinements, uniformity. -Chairs. Just a distraction to me. Playing while sitting down, playing while standing on chairs, etc...doesn't make anything they play harder or easier. -Battery's book isn't nearly as challenging as Cadets, Crown, SCV, or even Cavaliers. -Drum break....while better than previous years as far as writing goes, still lacks something truly unique. -Not much onfield movement at all. I get bored a lot during their show. And there you go, peeps...
  19. Thanks for the reply. It does make sense that a lot of times, a judge would place himself in a hole like that, it kinda sucks. But what I'm trying to say is, in my opinion, Blue Devils percussion section isn't .2 away from perfection. Especially when something like Phantom 08 was .2 away from perfection last year. It's just frustrating to see =]
  20. Hahahahaha I swear... Brent makes the FUNNIEST comments ever. He's so mean it's hilarious. He cusses all the time, and it's just sooooo funny. I think there's a Facebook group with tons of his quotes, I laugh at em all.
  21. Actually, that is what I want as well hahaha. I personally enjoyed the Bluecoats show more than BD, but whatevs. I'm sure the judges don't agree there.
