  1. Yeah, the admin and many alumni of the Blue Devils organization may have class, but that is not something that I can identify with in the current membership attitude. Many, many Blue Devils members are extremely rude and classless to almost all of their competitors.
  2. You're one of the few on here who truly thinks clearly. There are a lot of Cadets fans who are trying to justify Cadets losing to Crown most of the season and at finals by saying that Crown's show was "easier, but better performed" and that "Cadets would have won if the fall hadn't happened" and "blah, blah, blah, blah". The fact of the matter is, Crown was a better drum corps all around this summer. The Cadets didn't come close to touching Crown musically (Crown did win overall music all 3 nights of finals). Yeah, they definitely had a cleaner guard than Crown. Its debatable that they marched better (although Crown beat them in field visual finals night). The Cadets were a very good drum corps this summer...in fact, calling them simply "very good" would be a disservice to them because they were truly wonderful. However, it took a little something special in the visual department to overcome what Crown was putting out musically, and this year, only the Blue Devils really did that. Trying to make excuses for why your favorite drum corps didn't beat "x" drum corps is useless. I fully acknowledge that Crown (being a favorite of mine) did NOT deserve to win DCI this year. I acknowledge that it has nothing to do with "getting screwed" or "mishaps" but has EVERYTHING to do with the fact that they simply did not march as well as the Blue Devils this year. AND BD's guard was insane. You all have your opinions though...and I really can't fault you if thats how you truly feel.
  3. I completely disagree with your assertion that Garfield didn't deserve the brass trophy. That hornline was miles ahead of the rest that year, just like in 83. Pretty much every DVD hornline is miles ahead of the rest.
  4. Czapinksi. And oh my God, I feel sorry for whatever brave soul has ever had the cajones to be near that woman. I hear she got kicked out of WGI. Should have been DCI, too.
  5. Man you guys are really drinking the cream haterade aren't you?
  6. Matt Harloff is the director of the marching band and wind ensemble at Avon, is the hornline caption head, and pretty much oversees the entire marching band. It isn't surprising that Avon was dominant musically...Matt is the brass caption head at Crown, who won the Jim Ott this year.
  7. Constant marching and fast drill does not demand make...necessarily.
  8. I believe that was understood...geez. Lighten up on the maroon kool-aid.
  9. That crowd goes absolutely ape-####. Things that the dvd confirms: -BD was completely dominant visually. -Crown was completely dominant musically. -Cadets really didn't have the hardest show. The top 3 were about equal. -Blue Stars were awesome! -Boston actually was entertaining for the first time in like...10 years. -Crossmen were really, really dirty, and should have been beaten by Surf. -Glassmen's show was pretty cool.
  10. 1980 Spirit is cool and everything, but there was more overblowing at the end of that show than I've ever heard...ever.
  11. I would love to see strings in drum corps. That would be great, actually. True orchestral lit, finally on the field. Well, if we add woodwinds, that would make it even better. Gah, I wish it would happen.
  12. Yeah, this rarely happens. In fact, at least in the brass world, most people who are of a decent performance level on their instrument get MUCH worse while marching drum corps. The inability to woodshed on your horn for 4-5 hours a day during the summer makes it much harder to improve. Summer camps such as Tanglewood/etc are much more worth your time musically than drum corps. Yet I keep coming back. Still not sure why.
  13. You are completely wrong. Most of the old Star staff, including Donnie VanDoren, Barry Hudson, etc, are overseeing the alumni corps. Matt Harloff, current brass caption head for Crown, and Star 93 drum major, is also conducting the corps during the performance...and he'll still be teaching Crown during the summer. I mean he does have a world championship to win, especially after winning his first Jim Ott as a caption head this past year.
  14. Definitely hype. The only corps with that many people auditioning for them are MAYBE going to be the top 5 from this past year.
  15. IMHO, the only legitimate contenders to BD not winning again are the Cadets and Crown. Although I think Crown will dominate the field this season (including BD), its still only November. One things for sure...even BD can't touch that Crown hornline
  16. At least they didn't get 9th place after placing first the previous year. oh, wait.
  17. /agree. I tend to agree with pretty much everything you've ever said.
  18. circular breathing is similar to squirting water out of your mouth. to circular breathe, you just store air in your cheeks, and as you run out of air, you push the air out of your cheeks that is in reserve while breathing in through your nose. its similar to how you can squirt water out of your mouth while you breathe in through your nose.
  19. not really....haha. if you can squirt water out of your cheeks, you can circular breathe.
  20. Why? That technique has absolutely NO practical application. It is a "flashy" way to show off. If you were to ever use that in an audition of any sort, you would be laughed out of the room.
