  1. the poles? Yeah ok maybe.... It may be the curved equipment piece thingies.... The guard work from beginning to end (ribs, tusks, antlers and bows) the movement and music certainly suggests it.
  2. Once the adjudicators see the " Forrest through the trees" I expect BD GE scores to rise.... I attended the Clovis show.... CC took a big risk with the new uniforms and color schemes and it works! The BD and CC programs are in the plan and tweak stage I expect surprises from both as the season rolls. SCV has thrown all the cards on the table will backdrops give them a push? See you all in Stanford....
  3. Your assumptions put your foot in your MOUTH!
  4. DCI could not wait? just 15 minutes? Could they have just made an announcement instructing the fans to leave immediately after the practice run? I wish Crown the best of luck this year. DCI has no idea how to treat fans. We are viewed as privileged serfs in their eyes. 15 minutes!
  5. At the Countdown, Boston Program Coordinator Jay Kennedy stated that it was about the Crusades in three parts. The themes within the program will be general/ broad and will not cover any one specific aspect of that history.
  6. Interesting.....I have attended camps...know what they are playing...practices are open to anyone who is curious and still the DCP forum collective does not know what they are doing or playing. WOW! talk about secrecy. As an alumni of the corps I respect their wishes and defer until they officially announce. I know the that the Board of Directors were informed of their show a month or two ago and sworn to secrecy. For those who are curious the TUBE shows a percussion event were the 2010 Battery is playing the "opener" just type in Blue Devils 2010. I am curious about the Cavaliers this year, their selections are intriguing to say the least.
  7. Star of Indiana is alive and well assuming the identity of Carolina Crown. And THAT'S A GOOD THING!
  8. It's one of my favorite shows this year...Wow! start to finish. They are in position to win this year no doubt. Cavaliers too. It will be a very exciting finish. Probably the first time that I will throw my loyalties aside I will cheer if anyone of the three wins THIS IS TURNING OUT TO BE A GREAT YEAR! ALLENTOWN HERE WE GO! See you all in INDY!
  9. I don't know about you fans but I always feel I got the munchies after I watching Carolina Crowns Show... Man that's some good ####!
  10. Ok Elmo! I think I got it! first thanks for your input for it assisted me in my interpretation of their show. Here goes: They start of with "Imagine" with the pit...to stage what they are about to tell...lennon's lyrics talks about a world in peace free from the oppressive actions of church and state a universal brotherhood. They use Mingus Childrens hour of dream...not because of the title but the actual emotion of the music, dark and enforcing..a world of today. the umbrella/derby guy represents that dream in the opener he gets pushed around as the world is resistive to the dream (Lennon's Imagine World) it is further enforced in the next production "Pigs Fly" when pigs fly is a statement used by a person who does not believe a particular action (here the dream) will happen. they poke fun and cajole at a world or "Idea" without an oppressive church and state. But the transformation happens the corps proper changes to "sky" (their cloud shirts) a key word used in lennon's lyrics the ballad piece features this. It will be interesting if my interpretation is correct I did not have the benefit of reading this years show narrative so I don't know what it details. Anyway its all fun...can't wait to see the final product.!
  11. Source has it that Bluecoats have a planned ending...when they will perform it? dont know..Maybe it will the Iconic Melodic line of Imagine played in a dramatic Fashion as they unfurl a picture of Lennon wearning a derby with an apple in his mouth.. The same statement as the pit in the beginning but balls out. Who knows...
  12. Question...would they have picked the Mingus Piece if it did not have the word "dream in it?" Surely there are other unusual melodic lines that could have supported their concept...BTW Mingus was imaginative composer! maybe it is as simple as that...
  13. its there..as a background intro when the announcer intros the corps...the pit plays it. It may not be heard in the telecasts. But I was up front in the CA shows..
  14. That my point.....just what exactly are the ideas of Magritte? How does the Coates deliver this on the field? the show design this year requires that the fans/judges have knowledge of Magritte's artistic style and Lennon's lyrics if not then its just cool music and surreal images. I should not have to take a crash course in art 101 to understand the program. I have seen Margritte's work before but without knowledge of who the artist is and history. I wonder what their show narrative says...does it talk about Lennon's lyrics and artist Renee Magritte? There is no clarity of concept in the program. or maybe we are victims of design snobbery....
  15. agreed if it was exhibition...I guess i have too much of that competitive blood in me. But thanks for the gut check! :)
  16. They have an excellent brass line. "imagine" if BD Brass Staff had them.
  17. Your right..it boils down to the execution and the judges favorable/unfavorable opinion of the sophistication and clarity of the concept abstract or not. It appears that Blue Coats are having problems with show concept. Elmo explained the show well however they are not exactly cleaning the top 5 house in all captions.
  18. Elmo! you explained it well..maybe if they cleaned it up they can win DCI this year. In your opinion is it top three? if so what can they do to get there?
  19. What does their show narrative say? does anyone have this years DCI Program? The staff picks Mingus Children's hour of Dream presumably because it has the word "dream" in the title I guess Dream and Imagine can mean the same thing ohhhh also the word IDEA! the next movement is the absurd... pigs flying...they select a fun whimsical tune have the brass perform some body movement. Then the drumline daydreams laying in an abstract meadow, staring into the clouds and eventually becoming part of the heavenly sky...soaring dreaming....imagining....The brass joins in ...well this is were the concept gets lost. .
  20. I agree...I like Fight Song but why pick "dream?????" Thinking back....The Devils "Dream" was a brilliant selection for their Chronicle program...it even sounded gangsta...with it's machine gun like staccato phrases. Probably one of best selections of music by a staff; it fit the opening perfectly.
