  1. Alright, just wondering. Personally I don't get Glassmen at 10th, I'd have them at 13th with Colts 12, Troop 11, and BK 10.
  2. Yes, and it's extremely likely that at least 12th if not 11th and 10th too drop from tonight to tomorrow night.
  3. Have you seen the corps ahead of them yet? And they may be there by the end of the evening...
  4. They had me until the 1990 Phantom Regiment uber lame (that's pronounced lemay) flags at the end of it.
  5. I've been thinking that all season. I just don't get it. It's not like their unis are nautical, just seems odd to me. Maybe somebody just had a crusshed velvet urge.
  6. Thank you, so many issues with that show, mostly the overall boredom it induced. And to the previous comment, they don't stand in an arc with you 20 feet away when they play it in the show. I love the lot as much as the next guy, but it's not "reality". And loud doesn't necessarily equal emotion.
  7. Any scores yet for those of us who didn't shell out the dough for the webcast? DCI is slow getting the show score page up again tonight.
  8. I'm pretty sure it goes something like this, but I only marched with him for one year so... 1994 Marauders 1996 Troopers (maybe 1995 Troop) 1997-1998 Bluecoats? 1996 Troopers is the only one I'm sure of because I was there...
  9. Point of clarification: The Crossmen are not wearing new uniforms. Only the capes are new, the rest is carryover. No big deal, just wanted to clarify. Great post, by the way.
  10. Thank you, thank you, thank you. :worthy: :worthy:
  11. And the actual ending is even more demanding than where they ended up until Sunday. There's about another minute after where they ended the show for Blossom and Toledo. It will be interesting to see what happens when they have the added impact of show flags and guard uniforms. Not to mention getting cleaner and cleaner.
  12. Dance Sophisticates. I also concur that it is not financial.
  13. I agree that it might not make that big of a deal for the top tier, but I think that the addition of the full panel will help sort out the double digits. Not having seen many corps yet, I'm not sure who it will help. I predict that it will hopefully help my team(s) and hurt yours, which is probably the direction that this thread will take as homers and trolls wage war. Have fun.
  14. Ok, I'll give my two cents worth: They're not functional weapons and therefore don't deserve to be treated the same way as functional weapons. Do you treat an American Flag lapel pin like the real deal? Must it be burned if it touches the ground? No. The rifle I spun and tossed a few years ago does not deserve the same respect as the rifle I use to hunt deer, period. One is a lightweight representation of a deadly weapon, and the other is said deadly weapon. Our sabres and rifles are manufactured to withstand the routines of drum corps (i.e. drops and the stress of catching them). Yes, catching stresses the equipment too! The rifles of today are muuuuuuccccchhhhh lighter and more durable than the old-school ones. You simply couldn't have an entire rifle line throw very high tosses or move the equipment of their day with the speed and agility (wrist motions, and direction changes, etc.) required of today's performers. Yes, they built up tremendous momentum and did some work that was very demanding, but if you try today's work on yesteryear's equipment, you better have your physical therapist on speed dial. If the equipment of today was available back then you might have seen more work like we see today. With a rifle weighing three or more times what they do now the work might have been seen as more "respectful" when they were really pushing the limits of what the tic system and the weight of their equipment allowed. Finally, DCI hasn't banned bugles or non-synth keyboards. The activity has made alternatives to them legal. There are still g-bugles on performance fields, there are still marimbas, vibes, and xylophones in pits. So your whole argument of "ban rifles because we legalized synths" (very reductionist, I know) is faulty. Again, DCI has not banned the instruments of yore, just made other instruments legal. The air blade is legal, so are oars or whatever else you want to spin and so are g-bugles if you so desire.
  15. In my opinion it seems that the current incarnation of the corps is more conscious of the history and traditions in some ways than we were in the late 90s. I don't remember the hornline flag being at rehearsal everyday, and I don't remember hearing Russian or knowing that much about it. Of course part of that may have just been ignorance of my surroundings. It seems that Mark, Fred, etc are perhaps embracing the history of the corps more than YEA! did in the late 90s. Update - A rented box truck is hauling the beautiful new souvie trailer this way from OK City now. We might have all the vehicles back in the convoy by the time we leave this evening!
  16. From talking to Fred I get the impression that the exhibition is nothing more than an open ensemble rehearsal, the corps isn't loading until afterwards so whatever it is it happens at the Camdenton HS stadium. There were maybe 100-200 in the stands at Union last night and I think it's great that the members are getting crowds that react to every segment in ensemble rehearsal. It has to be a good motivator at the end of these hot and humid days.
  17. Usually only the first half of the morning block Honestly, I think it's been 90 or more since move-in. The 80 degree temps in Toledo will feel so nice for them.
  18. Camdenton, MO, same air temps as yesterday, just twice as humid and absolutely no breeze. I'm glad that I get to sleep all day and drive at night, just walked to the food truck and back dripping sweat the instant I walked outside. The members and staff are still working their you know whats off. Maybe by Thursday we'll be out of this heat, Indy looks to be humid in the mid 90s tomorrow.
  19. I'm sorry that the sarcasm dripping from the previous post was completely lost on you. Better luck next time.
  20. What? Russian, Birdland, Born to Be Wild, First Circle, and Eye of the Tiger aren't all the same musical style? Not to mention School for Scandal...
  21. considering that the DCI webpage lists "emotional impact" as something within the purview of the Visual Effect judge, I think that drama is included, hence PR's achievement in the sheets. Without having seen SCV this year, is it possible that they can generate emotional impact visually without having the hardest drill? Sure, I guess we'll have to wait and see...
