  1. Probably my least favorite moment is when the DM takes the helmet off and shakes out her hair - she's lovely and a solid DM, but a corps is a unit and not really about individuals. I'm just old.
  2. Yup, biggest weakness (for me) is the music arrangement - and too many songs. The last few seasons it's like they refuse to play a song straight or not do a mash up. Glee! was canceled for a reason. But the corps itself is a caption monster and I do really enjoy it just due to the high performance levels = especially in the guard, snares, pit and segments of brass.
  3. yup and shows out on the west coast the week before - and rehearsals. Crowns show was very fun.
  4. I've agreed with the judging community almost entirely - I do find some things a bit odd, mostly they're just a one off. And very rarely do I disagree materially with the results. 2007 and 2011 are two such years. In a spectator "sport" ultimately everyone judges what they're seeing. I'm certain the judges do this with great intent - maybe my issue is more with the sheets. Never liked the GE1 GE2 thing, didn't like the original explanation of it & haven't been won over since. BUT wasn't that a GREAT night of drum corps?
  5. well now all one needs to do is scatter hop & skip to your next idea - drill transitions are way 2 weeks ago
  6. yeah, but numbers really don't agree with this. Case in point - percussion content last night.
  7. ketchup only goes on hot dogs if you're 7 years old or younger I would think most people know it's MUCH different in person than on video AND different on the sidelines than in the press box. BD visual program and detailing is second to none. But it is drum & bugle corps, not a dance troop. BD was over-rewarded for wicked clean (sometimes out of tune) brass & (relatively easy compared to Coats or Boston) percussion. The members are terrific but the design feels very stale and fairly unemotional.
  8. so - I was just on Flo, but was expecting a either a razor thin BD win OR a Boston win OR both Boston & Bloo just ahead of BD. I don't get the scoring. Only area that I personally "agree with" is visual - BD moves and "dances" so well, and Boston took guard. Music IMO is where the judges seem to be awarding clean and a lot of not playing on the move. It's a head scratcher (to me). But really, GE seems to be used as some sort of judge's slush fund - what exactly ARE they rewarding here? (and yes, I know what the paper says) - I just don't see BD design and effect 0.75 up on Boston, and even further ahead of Bloo.
  9. ok sure - but this thread focuses on GH which is what I was referencing in my "grow up to be horrible men" comment
  10. a small subset of an overall sick community - it really begins in the home, if little boys aren't taught right from wrong we end up with horrific adult males DCI really needs a much tougher stance, Hopkins should be banned for life, they should install strict guidelines for hiring background checks... A zero-tolerance policy is way too late - we need better front-end screening and very specific guidelines for minor/adult interactions. DCI is too hands off. I know there's some investigations swirling around several TOP drum corps re member health and safety (Covid related) - hopefully a sign DCI is becoming more aware - when for years the mindset was "oh, that's up to the individual corps organization blah blah" DCI responsibility doesn't begin and end at the edge of a contest field.
  11. We're all human, and have times when our mood is rough - I'm thinking that's the case with the staff member as well - I love Troopers. And I know that they've had some bad luck this season for sure. I feel badly I upset him. Hugs, G.
  12. I literally thought you must have been being sarcastic. My bad.
  13. Tim - sorry if I somehow offended you. Hope you and the members have an enjoyable rest of the season. I certainly wish you and the Troopers nothing but the best. Take care, George.
  14. are you being sarcastic? (I hope) - Geez.
  15. Yes. Physical media is dead - hung on until Covid (on life support) but now it's kaput
  16. I also saw them in Annapolis from the 50 - about a third of the way up. I loved "the show" and the members very much impressed me with their energy and dedication.
