  1. I think the usefulness of this thread has run its course. Point is.. some where there, most were not. The old school DCA vets who clearly have an axe to grind from some issue that happened 30 years ago can't seemed to stop living in the past and judging corps based on bitter bias of which no one in the current corps have a clue what your talking about. The message you people are leaving on here for all to read is the the old Sr corps persona that most DCI kids are told they want no part of is all valid. So when you ask the question why does DCI think little of DCA... simply read your own posts. It would be nice that at some point the young ladies and gentlemen who are currently competing in the DCA can come on here and read about their corps and their competition WITHOUT the old school bitter vets from a by gone era hijacking their threads and starting the same arguments all over again. There may be issues with DCA and the adjudicators, but there is far more wrong going on here where everyone can read it with all of you. Put it to bed already and help support the people who are sweating for your enjoyment.
  2. Like my signature says, I love corps as well. I'm very excited to see everyone at the Grand Prix. I'm still sticking with the majority here. Sounds like Reading may have pushed as far as they can. Cabs have been the giant killer before, and I don't see why it couldn't be possible now. Streaks have been broken before. I'm still curious about the spread. It seems the Cabs are on the move. If Reading show was what most have reported, they have their work cut out for them. 5 points is a big spread to keep. Especially if the number wasn't earned. May be foolish to put that kind of burdon on them. We all shall see. Good luck to everyone.
  3. Reading your review of Reading, the one thing I noticed that you didn't mention was that they were out of steam like a few others did as well as the members that had apparently fallen. 3 members were reported to had fallen during the performance. Where those accounts by previous posters not true? I'm very appreciative to reviews and opinions. But the closer you are to any particular corps, the views and opinions seems to change somewhat on their behalf. You noted you have been to Reading's rehearsals referring to work ethic and such.. its no secret how they work. But unless you have sampled all corps work ethics and field etiquett, you presume that they work better then the next. I appreciate that you were at the show... and I hope your take on both corps corelate to their performances, but it seems a bit off from the other people who have posted before you. Like VOReason has said, maybe the HOPES of certain fans sway somewhat the preception of what people see apposed to what actually happened.
  4. OK! Conspiracy theorist unit. As mentioned earlier, unless you were actually at the show, none of you have a clue as to what happened. Did the Bucs deserve a 5 point spread at the kick off show, by reports of THOSE WHO POSTED AND WERE AT THE SHOW... they say either Yes by a small margin or NO, not at all. But this result doesn't even signify that the Bucs ruined DCA. Like every other Drum Corps, they have winter camps, spring training and they hit the field. They perform their show as does everyone else. The issues, debates, arguments and what not are based on the scoring results by the adjuicators. If you choose to direct your anger, dismay, or simple disagreements towards anyone, it should be directed at them. Not the drum corps themselves You have now heard it by the people in attendence that the outcome of this show did not reflect the actual performances of the corps. There is no way that this result based on the current findings anyone can determine that Reading is an unstoppable force or if Cabs are 5 points behind Bucs or what ever. Sounds to me that the results of this weekends performance means nothing. It didn't determine anything in terms of scores or placement. Its funny that those making the claims that Reading is ruining the activity, or are this drum corps freak of nature weren't even there to see for themselves and those who were there are being ostracied for even claiming by theirown witness that it is possible that Reading simply isn't as good as last year or that its possible that Cabs got their act together. But by all accounts Reading fell short of the posting spectators expectations and Cabs are far ahead of their previous performances, as are Bush and Fusion. I for one will be using this as a guidline for future reference rather then the numbers or spreads from this weekend.
  5. Y Clearly your not a fan of the Cabs. Seems you may not be a fan of Reading either. But based on some of your past posts and comments here on DCP, you seem to lean towards any corps other then Cabs. And you were not at the performance. I'm of the opinion that if anyone is going to insinuate anything either way, you may want to have actually gone to the show. Formulate your opinion without your own personal anti-whoever bias and make a true intelligent conclusion. Seems to me, the people who have commented thus far experianced the show first hand. While I will still hold my opinions until I see both shows first hand, people at the show have made some truly interesting observations. Whether in favor of the Cabs or in disaproval towards the adjudicators judging them. Based on the current overwhelming response towards the Cabs, I'm going to listen more intently towards what the people who were at the show .and as it seems there were people at the show who may not have been pro anyone also seeing a problem with the spread or even total end result.... I'm totally anxious to see Cabs. The Grand Prix can't get here any sooner.
  6. actually they have 9 as well, 70,72,73,74,76,84,85,95,03
  7. I don't want to be the bringer of bad news.. but all ALL AGED corps are committed to family, work and school! Not exactly the best way to promote your drum corps by making false accusations!! Just sayin..
  8. I said this earlier.. Very impressive. Very mature sound! I'm very excited to see this show outside! Get it Cabs!!
  9. Change is never a bad thing.. But Dennis was not fired.. neither was Rich. Circumstances in both of their professional endeavors made it difficult to commit the time constraints that this years program required! Both Dennis and Rich were and are a greate addition to the Caballeros and will alway be welcome here.
  10. BVP didn't produce commercial quality DVDs. They are DVDr akin to the type you could buy yourself at your local Radio Shack. My DVD burner at home gives me an option at the first use to determine what region code to use.. after you check off your region, your never asked again to choose.. I assume it similar for BVP.
  11. I wondered the same thing. But a littel snooping on google, I found this: Most DVD movies contain a region code, denoting which area of the world it is targeted at. The commercial DVD-video player specifications dictates that players must only play discs that contain their region code. This allows the film studios to set different retail prices in different markets and extract the maximum possible price from consumers. With region coding, studios can dictate release schedules and prices around the world. However, many DVD players allow playback of any disc, or can be modified to do so. These players are called region-free players, and some shops sell players that are hacked directly, others sell players that can be de-zoned with a couple of clicks. So, to answer the question: No, by default your UK-bought DVD player will not play DVDs from outside your region (UK being in DVD Region 2, which includes Western Europe, Greenland, South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland, Japan, Egypt, and the Middle East). However, browsing the net a bit should reveal whether the player you own can be made region-free, or you can consider purchasing a player that will play all zones. Additional notes: European Region 2 DVDs may be sub-coded D1 through D4. "D1" identifies a UK-only release. "D2" and "D3" identify European DVDs that are not sold in the UK and the Republic of Ireland. "D4" identifies DVDs that are distributed throughout Europe. A player set to play Region 2 discs should be able to play all sub-regions by default. Region 0 designates no actual region, but it is used as shorthand for a disc meant to be playable on all players. On such a disc, the actual region coding is R1/2/3/4/5/6. In the early days, region 0 players were created that would allow any region disc to be played in them, but studios responded by adjusting some regioned discs to refuse to play if the player was determined 0 (since no player should anyway). This system is known as Regional Coding Enhancement or just RCE. Buying a "Region 0" player may therefore not be a wise investment, but saying that, I set my LG DVD player to region 0 years ago and have had no subsequent problems with playing any discs (I own hundreds of Region 1 and 2-coded discs) Since the OP was coming from someone from the UK, it seemed appropriate.
  12. If it's by the Cabs, chances are it's going to be high energy! What ever you do, Just knock me back a few yards as you usually do and I will chuckle like a giddy school kid! Love you guys. Hands down my favorite corps in DCA. How long before we get a full report of the show?
  13. http://store.dci.org/2009_World_Championsh...__P3550C170.cfm This is the top 12 DCI dvd.. for $99.00 http://bvp.stores.yahoo.net/20seenprenfi4.html THis is the price list for the DCA packages.. And you confirmed my point!!! The charges are comparable and DCI puts much more into their product then BVP. BVP is ridiculously over priced considering the product!
  14. There is a perfectly good model in the DCI DVD presentation!! Does DCA need all the bells and whistles that DCI currently employes? That would depand on the demographic who usually purchases the DCA product. But based on what we have been asked to pay, which is basically the same amount DCI has charged, its not asking too much to have an equally produced product. 1) I would prefer a professional (commercial grade) DVD. Not the Radio Shack version.. 2) Multi Angle option. So I can chose to watch any angle at any time. Sans the endzone like above..Also... a more interactive menu. I can make better DVD's on my Macbook!! geez!!! 3) Better camera involvement with the corps'. Not people just standing in the pit or high camera angles.. It would be nice to have a boom camera on the field. Plus the producers need to have more interaction with the corps designers to focus on the key moments in the show. When watching a drum corps on the screen, its equally important for the editors to enhance the show effect by being as involved in the show as the performers. 4) I 2nd better mic placement. Mics should be off the field.. not on the front sideline. 5) Is it possible to have a real opening DCI has a great opening with music and animated graphics. thats of course just me.. I really enjoy the work that goes into the DCI product!
  15. It is a bold move for sure. In terms of life experience, they wouldn't have it. They hired all "kids". I'm talking out of turn here.. its been years since my touring days! While they have some incredible experience, "ON THE FIELD" that is marching and or playing. They made a point to note that many of them were section leaders, which would indicate they earned the respect of the people around them.. one would hope this translates well while teaching. But what's going to make this work in their favor is a great staff coordinator. Someone who can delegate authority well and knows how to utilize each individuals talents appropriately. But I don't think they should be left to do the work without guidance. Their inexperience will most likely be in terms of people skills. But if they follow direction as well as they did when they were marching, they should do fine. Good Luck Crossmen! I hope this helps bring you back to the upper tier!
  16. Would you know if the DVDs are commerical stock or DVDR? My kids marching band DVDs from them were very poor quality and were the same stock you would by at Radio Shack!! I can actually burn my own off youtube if thats the case.
  17. Is this the same arrangement that's on Wayne Downey's website? http://www.xtremebrass.com/
  18. So...I'm I reading into this right, that the video company used by DCA is not reliable? I ordered mine when I returned from DCA's. I had noticed this is the same company used for my kids marching band championships...I wasn't very happy with the quality of the DVD's we got then. I can't remember how much I spent for my kids bands video.. It was $30 or $40 I don't remember, and it was the same DVDrs I by for my camcorder from Radio Shack and the video quality was terrible. I purchased the 2008 DCI DVDs which seem to be of a commercial grade. Are the DCA videos of the same quality as DCI? I mean for the price which almost the same as DCI, I would hope so.
  19. I know I may get reamed for asking this....Why would a move out west be a good thing? Sorry new here.... 10 of the 13 open class corps are all in the north, central and south eastern US? It would seem a move to Mid Atlantic region would be the better move. Isn't it a wiser decision to cater to the majority rather then chance the possibility of losing several eastern corps in a move like that? I mean the economy being what it is there has to be a reason why only the Empire Statesmen decided to fly out to California for a NONE DCA event. I would assume money is the greatest issue. No? Yeah sure the are a great number of smaller corps out west, but and don't take this the wrong way. Are they drawing in the same crowds at shows as the open class corps? It seems, and this is just me reading into it, that any move greater then a few hours for any given corps, would be just to save 2 or 3 corps the burden of a long commute to DCA's. It would be a different story if there were a greater number of corps out west. This may be a stupid question to.. Does DCA pay any corps for travel expenses? or at least at least help in that area?
  20. Why wouldn't it work. Your top 5 open class corps are filled with them as I would imagine ever DCA corps. Both recently aged out and still within the age limit. If said corps was to market itself as the other corps' do.. It would be a windfall for sure! The problem would fall into getting a world class staff on hand to sell the product. But........How does this really help them? How does it help DCA to foster a corps "temporarily" if the intent was to return to DCI?
  21. I agree. If the corps offers a great atmosphere.. They will retain a large contingent of membership. But all this withstanding, there will be corps jumpers. But I don't think it will help Madison this season. While consultants are good to have, you still have the people who are actually in front of the corps. If they don't hold up their end, then whats the point.
  22. Listen to some old Sunrisers circa 75 or 76ish... John Arietano.....During "Old Man River". They didn't call him "Screech" for nothing. Couldn't tell ya what note he was playing, but dogs throughout Allentown sure were barking in appreciation.
  23. I guess what I'm more concerned about is that there are no checks and balances within the system that would one: Hold a judge accountable for his inability to do the job at hand, and two: There is nothing in place to award the corps who may have had taken a sufficient drop in placement or score due to such an error. I could see it a daunting task for the chief judge to listen to every tape and review each judges sheet, but really..Who judges the judges? People often say this system is way to political...But if all checks and balances were in place...then errors like this couldn't possibly happen. Why should a corps have to fall short of their goal because an adjudicator/s failed to do his or her job or worse and here is that word "slotted" a corps no matter the performance.
