  1. Also if anyone is interested, I will be tweeting throughout the show. @sax1210
  2. Didn't see a topic for Orlando so I thought I'd start one. Mods feel free to delete if I missed the other one. GO BAC Performance Order according to DCI.org Teal Sound Glassmen Blue Knights Boston Crusaders note: Madison will not be in attendance due to vehicle/mechanical issues
  3. It's so hard to not like this show, the way this horn line is playing.
  4. Just like quarterfinals last year. Come on Brant!
  5. Cadets are on a different planet drill wise, only Cavies are there with them. All IMO of course
  6. Anyone know why we are listening to Regiment's percussion book from last year?
  7. Very young. Only one snare returning from last year's line. A lot of the hornline is new too.
  8. This ballad is absolutely beautiful. One of my favorites this year.
  9. Boston's guard looks so improved from a year ago. Awesome!
  10. Cavies 02 Best executed show we have ever seen IMHO and the crowed loved it! (I'm looking at you BD) Cadets 2000 Love this show so much, the closer is just pure bliss
  11. This. Exactly my feelings right now. I hope their design staff is changing something big before August, but I do like the show, it just seems to be missing that "something"
  12. I voted 07 Cadets and 09 Crown It was a really hard choice for me a lot of these shows are amazing. If only 07 Cadets didn't have narration..... "Now we're going to do something with No voice!" "YEAAAAAAAAAA"
  13. That is true, but there are some pretty "meaty" orchestra parts for concertos out there. Plus I assume some arranging would have to be done to make sure that the corps still maintains a high demand.
  14. That is true I thought the soloist was used very well by Regiment last year. However, I was thinking more along the lines of a direct transcription of an actual concerto, and the soloist playing the lead line in every movement, (except the percussion feature of course!) And yes, the soloist would have to be spot-on all the time, and probably quite an amazing talent!
  15. So I am sure this has been brought up at some point here at some time but I've never seen it. I was listening to Jaqueline du Pre play Elgar's cello concerto, and I thought, "Why couldn't this or another concerto work on a DC field?" I know that some corps have done arrangements of Concertos, but what about a designated soloist who either does not march or marches on a limited basis, and plays the solo part the entire time? I am not sure if it's against the rules or it has already been done, but I was just curious and was thinking some of you DCI experts on here might be able to help me out here. I think it would be something really cool and unique if done correctly.
  16. I am excited that BAC keeps rising so fast! They must making some major improvement
  17. Who knows, DCI judging has always been the pinnacle of the activity. Anyone looking for a good laugh should go check out the latest Music rankings on DCI.org
  18. I think you may be off with your reasoning why people are overlooking this Crown show. Obviously I can only speak for myself but here's why I think people are "Overlooking" the show. Up until this year most of their repertoire was Orchestral music, if not all (speaking since their "breakout" in 2007.) I would say most people in the DCI neighborhood are orchestral music fans or fanatics. Crown was taking some of my favorite orchestral pieces and giving them a beautiful Drum Corps twist. I would say why would they stop using material that has given them so much momentum in the past. Yes, this year they are using some Rachmaninov, I understand, but it gets overshadowed by the four chord ######## that in my opinion has no place on a DCI field. Also, I think those of us who love Phantom's 95 show can never forgive Crown for not going for the lush climax in Rhapsody on a Theme. Given their natural horn line sound, if they had really gone for it there, it could have been one of DCI's best moments of 2011. A bit dramatic I know, but for me it's an unforgivable sin. A lot of Crown fans are Phantom fans as well, both corps produce beautiful dark sounds and play mostly orchestral music. But hey, what do I know? Edit: Forgot to put "overlooking Crown's show"

  20. Went to a theater in Tampa, Florida. The sound was, as many have stated, far too quiet for my tastes. Speaking as a harsh critic of BD 09 and 10, I actually enjoyed the music book far more this year. The drill still seems a bit slow to me but I am open to changing my opinion. Cavies were great, thought the stilts concept was a little gimmicky but it worked to some degree. The horns were way more on top of the book than previous years, and wow Gaines has done it again with that visual program. Upside tenor players got the most reaction from the theater crowd out of anything the whole night. Bluecoats were good, but as far as design goes this year does not seem to measure up to last year's breakthrough. Has some great potential as a show though once it gets clean. As a strong Crown fan for a while now, I can say that I am thoroughly disappointed in this year's program. The worst part of the show to me was that they dodged a chance to hit that "dark chocolate" sound a la Phantom 95 in ROATOP. They completely cut out the climax of that piece and that was unacceptable to me. I thought the whole show was incredibly corny. The whole show just feels to me like a waste of some incredible talent. Cadets were amazing! The sound at our theater seemed to be lower during this part but the horns still sounded awesome and the drill is, well it's a Cadets book, in a class of its own. I thought the different uniforms/corps were staged beautifully. Phantom has never looked this tight visually this early, at least to me. I think that this show has the most potential for growth out of all of the shows tonight, and I mean that in a good sense. Once this show gets truly polished, it is going to be remarkable. This music choices for me really puts it over the top. Unlike most people I really like what SCV has done this year. Unfortunately, the dirt of their show really covered up some of the best parts. If they can push hard until the end of the season this show can be really well done, or it can be a disaster. The Tarpon Springs, I mean Blue Stars, drum and bugle corps, was really not as bad as some people are making it out to be. The synths are obviously too high, and I am not very keen on the "Bassoon" solo (you'll see what I mean). Overall, I think this program has a lot fo dirt now but definitely has strong potential. There were about 75 people in the Theater, a pretty strong turn out for this early. I liked being able to see the corps this early with this quality. DCI should keep it.
  21. From the Blue Devils????? What a change! :P
