  1. So an OC corps that might have an opprotunity to gain donors, and increase their membership shouldn't be allowed to do so because it might hurt the WC corps? Hmmmmmmmmm, deny an OC corps the chance to improve in favor of continuing an elitist mindset in WC.... okay? There's already a huge shadow cast over OC corps because they don't "do the same work" or have the same schedule as a WC corps. Both of these are dangerous assumptions that really point to the question, why do we hold WC corps in such a higher regard than OC corps? No matter the corps, you have people coming together to work their ##### off to a common goal; why deny one group the chance because they're smaller?
  2. I don't really think I've seen this topic discussed much, but what do current corps members, not only those in the G7, think about all of this? Being in an Open Class corps, I'm just kind of worried about the longevity of my corps should this new structure come into effect. I don't think it's a terrible idea overall, just a little too exclusive
  3. Why not? Oh boy how I can't wait to hear squeaks on the field! Oh wait...I already hear it, and I can hear it for a lot cheaper...at a High School football game. You say the arrangements will vary, but its going to be the sounds, not the arrangements, and just go ahead and refer to my answer for a little more commentary. There's a benefit to this? Sure. "Lets bump the number to 200...screw that, 215!" Etc, etc. Yeah, you'll have more people marching, but then you lose the experience of bonding with the whole corps. I don't know about y'all, but 214 names would be a little hard to keep a track of. You sacrifice the brotherhood aspect of corps by bumping the number up for "varied arrangements." But really, why not? Because you would without a doubt change absolutely nothing other than what instruments you see, and the volume of squeaking on the field. Because you would be increasing corps numbers and losing the bonding experience that IMO is as vital to the activity as the music. But most of all, because in the past, we haven't used woodwinds, and its worked out pretty #### well. I can't think of one show to date that I've said to myself while watching: "Hey, this would sound awesome with some Sax runs in it." Drum Corps won't be the same. Period. That's why not. OH! And because you can already experience your fantasy with HS Marching Band. A bunch of schools are adding in synths and amps, and they've already got woodwinds! I'm sure you can get cheaper tickets than you would if you were trying to go to Allentown.
  4. Yeah, cool, you pointed out the obvious. But why do we need it? Did they need woodwinds so desperately in the 70's? The 80's? Hell, the 90's? I'm not a purist, but if it ain't "broken", don't "fix" it.
  5. How would it make them more unique when they would just be allowed a larger set of instruments? They're still gonna be using the same instruments as one another. Lets say woodwinds do get onto the field for the whole show: Cadets use a Sax, 'Coats use an Oboe instead of the Sax. "OMGZ! INDIVIDUALITY, THEY'RE TOTALLY DIFFERENT FROM EACH OTHER NOW BECAUSE OF THAT SINGLE DIFFERENT INSTRUMENT!" No. They'll still be the same, save a few, FEW minor exceptions.
  6. Well it's meant to be angry, and fast, and gnarly (from the Osti website): "“Asphalt Cocktail” is a five-minute opener, designed to shout, from the opening measure, “We’re here.” With biting trombones, blaring trumpets, and percussion dominated by cross-rhythms and back beats, it aims to capture the grit and aggression that I associate with the time I lived in New York. Picture the scariest NYC taxi ride you can imagine, with the cab skidding around turns as trucks bear down from all sides. Serve on the rocks." It isn't meant to be a traditional piece where a melody is regurgitated bar after bar. The piece is something to beat the hell out of the audience's ears; which is why I can't wait to hear it over the summer!
  7. It's a joke! Lighten up, it's not as if your name was attached to the picture or anything.
  8. Then we'd just need to advertise a bit harder to bring everyone in!
  9. We put our sleeping bags in there so nobody was allowed to use it or our bags would smell like crap
  10. It seems like this topic continues to wander into a bashing of either OC, a specific OC Corps, or a combination of the two, we should try and get some decent, non-slander founded predictions or close this topic because it's gotten nowhere really.
